Dasglion Posted March 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2009 From what i know it was proposed as a new line from queens to the WTC via queensbridge. Gray background wit ha white X and it ran along 6 Ave.
INDman Posted March 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2009 The only X route I have ever seen is the black X on a white bullet that is only found on R32/38 side rollsigns. It was a centered bullet and did not say anything like Via 6th Ave or anything. Those signs also had a P and a Y in the same format. The P was a route in the event of an Amtrak strike back in the early 90's, I don't remember what that route would have been off hand though. 7LineFan Posted March 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 25, 2009 The X is currently signed up as Trash Train. Where did you get that? Last I heard, trash trains were simply "Not In Service."
Joe C Posted March 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 25, 2009 Where did you get that? Last I heard, trash trains were simply "Not In Service." Garbage trains are apart of the C division, which is Maintaince Of Way.
BSmith Posted March 25, 2009 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2009 The P was supposed to be a train to Penn Station during the Amtrak Strike but haven't happened. For obvious reasons. Not a good idea.
keysersoze Posted March 25, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 25, 2009 Where did you get that? Last I heard, trash trains were simply "Not In Service." Last year, I saw a couple of R38 garbage trains signed up as either "I" or "X".Also, the R38 can't display "not in service" on their small flipdot signs. Joe Posted March 25, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 25, 2009 The "P" service planned in case the Amtrak strike occurred (remember, without Amtrak, the LIRR cannot enter NYP) would have ran express from Sutphin Blvd. to 34th Street. It would have ran along the Jamaica Line, switching to the Sixth Avenue Line tracks south of Essex St. Upon reaching W4, it would use the Eighth Avenue Line. Zman Posted March 25, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 25, 2009 The garbage train is known as the Refuse Collector and is also known as the Pickup. Some T/O's will use X on the flipdot bulkhead sign to show that the train is not in service, but there is no rule that specifically states that X must be used. The X is only used for TA internal purposes for T/O and C/R jobs which have a combination road and switching/platform function in the B Division. keysersoze Posted March 25, 2009 Share #10 Posted March 25, 2009 I just browsed thru my June 2008 NYC trip pix... I didn't get a pic of the R38 garbage train signed up as the "X", but what about this one: (June 13th. 2008, at 59th St, lead car #4113)
KTrainExp Posted March 25, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 25, 2009 Here's a picture from subwaynut showing the (X) bullet indicating that the R32 was out of service. http://www.subwaynut.com/rollingstock/r160/r160b4.jpg
tripleeye49 Posted March 25, 2009 Share #12 Posted March 25, 2009 The X also was the letter designation for the Triboro RX Local train that would run from Yankee Stadium to Bay Ridge.
Eric B Posted March 25, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 25, 2009 The X apparently was proposed at one time, and was even coded on the R44/46 signs (with the terminals WTC and 21st St). I hadn't known about that until the sign codes started to be made known.

Zman Posted March 26, 2009 Share #15 Posted March 26, 2009 I just browsed thru my June 2008 NYC trip pix... I didn't get a pic of the R38 garbage train signed up as the "X", but what about this one: It's all the same, really. X, I, K, Y...doesn't matter. And by the way, that IS the R38 garbage train. Look further back in the pic and you'll see the yellow flat cars.
INDman Posted March 26, 2009 Share #16 Posted March 26, 2009 Do they still have R38s to use on the garbage train or are they all in the drink now?
TheMan Posted March 27, 2009 Share #17 Posted March 27, 2009 Originally, the . line was supposed to go all the way to 8th , but the ran out of cash. That explains the and rollsigns.
Eric B Posted March 27, 2009 Share #18 Posted March 27, 2009 Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.1; en-us; dream) AppleWebKit/525.10+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0.4 Mobile Safari/523.12.2) That's not how it would have run. It would follow 6th Av. To W4, then cross over (like the old ).
