Harry Posted September 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2007 Here's an interesting photo of a mixed train on the Sea Beach Line at 18th Av station. You don't see something like this in revenue service anymore. Date: July 4th, 1969 Collection of: Joseph Testagrose
Brighton Local Posted September 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2007 wow, interesting photo. Now I see why the quote, " a picture is worth a thousand words" is utilized. From what I can view from here is R40M's, R32's, R40-Slants, R42's.
Tracknut Posted September 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2007 Thats a very strange train. I have never seen anything that mixed before. I know the IRT used to mix alot of different cars on a train but I don't think the B divsion did it as much.

I know the IRT used to mix alot of different cars on a train but I don't think the B divsion did it as much. The B division were infamous for that. But thing is, you usually don't see R40 slants mixed with another car type in a consist like you see in the picture above.

Pablo M 201 Posted September 18, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2007 Imagine if they did that today... I actually wouldn't be surprised if something like that happens anytime soon with the mess the MTA been doing and creating.
Brighton Local Posted September 18, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 18, 2007 Ive seen it before. Back in the summer of 2005, when NYC was getting hit with a Hurricane; before hand, they took the B train layups from Stillwell yard, and laid them up at Neck Road ( like they do on weekends now), and there was a 10 car R40M set with 2 R40 Slants in the middle of the consist. However, I personally didn't see it in Revenue service, but I heard the same set I saw went into service the very next day.

error46146 Posted September 21, 2007 Share #9 Posted September 21, 2007 I actually wouldn't be surprised if something like that happens anytime soon with the mess the MTA been doing and creating. they already have 2 mixed sets: the R32/R38 one on the A/C and the R40M/R42 on the B/W
DHayward Posted September 21, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 21, 2007 Wow! Nice picture. Up here I've never seen a mixed subway set. I have, though, on the Trolley line see them latch up Type 7s to Type 6s. Very common. Back in the 70s-80s they used to put Budd RDC's and Horizon cars together. [On the Commuter Rail, not subway] Never saw that personally, but I've seen pictures. Interesting to say the least.
error46146 Posted September 21, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 21, 2007 imagine the MTA decided to make some foamers foam and mixed together R32's and R160's into one train lmao
Pablo M 201 Posted September 21, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 21, 2007 they already have 2 mixed sets: the R32/R38 one on the A/C and the R40M/R42 on the B/W Well, thats a common thing now. The thread is 5 years old! Why? What the hell is wrong with you dude? Maybe he did a search on Sea Beach pictures, or mixed train pictures... If G-d forbid he reposted this picture as a new thread, I'm sure all of you would have flamed the **** out of him! If you don't like a post, don't comment. Why did you censor the word "God"? This isn't some politically correct nut job site. The random thoughts thread exists exactly to prevent the scenarios described above.
