Southwest Airlines to end service EWR, consolidate at LGA

They say this is due to the continued MAX 8 groundings.  Southwest also announced they won't fly the MAX 8 until 2020.

Also posted within the CNBC link was a quote from Ralph Nader saying that the 737 MAX should never fly again - I agree with him. The newer 737 was able to enter service with minimal scrutiny due to the plane being perceived as having basic modifications as opposed to a totally redesigned plane. Hopefully the FAA will fully scrutinize any new planes to come to the market.

Perhaps it's also a lesson to large fleet operators not to rely on a single vehicle type (ie - some police depts might've relied almost exclusively on Ford Crown Vics in the early/mid 1990's) in the event that there are serious issues with a given class of vehicle. Southwest loves the 737's.

In the airline industry, having one type means less time and money spent training. The whole purpose of Southwest is to provide the consumer with a reasonable price. When you add more fleet types, you're adding costs.
