BM5 via Woodhaven Posted August 31, 2019 Share #126 Posted August 31, 2019 I'm compliling the list of bus schedule changes right now. The B54 reductions is actually worse than what it says in the first post. I have yet to review Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.
Calvin Posted September 1, 2019 Share #127 Posted September 1, 2019 Notes (The Q12 was not updated yet but will be observed) The B38: Previously, the line has the total count of 40 buses total on the road. 3 Min headways during the rush hours on separate Ridgewood terminals. 2-4 mins between Bushwick to Downtown Brooklyn. On Saturdays, 13-15 min heawdways on seperate Ridgewood terminals, between Bushwick to Downtown Brooklyn, headways are 6 mins. On Sundays, buses run a pattern of 5-10 mins between Bushwick and Downtoen Brooklyn. ARTICULATED: Both Ridgewood terminals will have 8 min headways until Bushwick to Downtown Brooklyn, 4 min headways. The total is 32 buses.: (-8) On Saturdays, the route is 8-10 mins but Ridgewood terminals have 18-20 min headways instead (Sundays is the same as well). The Bx35 The rush hours has 4 min headways total of 22 buses. During the afternoon hours, total goes to 14. However, after Labor Day, the headways are 6 mins with the total of 14 (PM rush as well). During the middays, the headways are 10 with a total of 8 buses on the line. Overall, 7 buses were reduced. On weekends, headways are 10 minutes giving the max total of 8 buses. Compared to the new vs old schedule, the headways used to be 7 minutes, total of 12. On Sundays, headways are 12 minutes (Sundays remained the same). It's basically a slick move by the union: Pick articulated runs to get the $2/hour premium, then refuse to drive the articulated buses.

While that's true, they've done it up to this point before the pick begins, and then running the route with an all-artic fleet when the pick starts. Those artics should have been there by the start of the pick. It was just poorly coordinated, especially since standards are not gonna be able to handle some of those loads under the new headways. If it was decided to implement artics and reduce the headways, then the artics should have been there. I can already see a problem with standards during the rush hour on the B38. The service levels were reduced quite a bit, where some 50-50 split of artics and standards will create problems. It gets worse when you factor in the bunching on the route. Calvin Posted September 4, 2019 Share #146 Posted September 4, 2019 With the B38 being articulated, there's a "No standing anytime" with a Tuesday/Friday street cleaning sign. IMO, some street signs may need to be adjusted as there is one car that's parked between the sign and there was a fire hydrant to the right on the left corner of the street. So then why did they start artic service on the early (before they had enough buses)? because they'd be dipping into their standard 40 foot spare factor by putting all 40 footers on the road until they get all the artics they need for full artic conversion on the 38. if (and when) a bus breaks down on any grand avenue line, and the only buses in the yard are artics, you've just shown as a general superintendent that you have no idea what you are doing. Calvin Posted September 7, 2019 Share #149 Posted September 7, 2019 https://new.mta.info/sites/default/files/2019-09/q012cur.pdf Seems that the Q12 Articulation service has the same headways during middays: 10 mins while nights is 15 mins Rush hours: 8 mins from Little Neck to Flushing AM while PM is reverse direction. Sanford Av, 165 St short turns are cut as it used to be 5 mins during the rush (the route segment). Weekends remain as it, just different minute departures.
