DetSMART45 Posted April 6, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 6, 2016 Nice variety. ROFL at that Blue Bird. From a maintenance standpoint, they're OK for that kind of light duty, but even though BBs are solidly built, outerbody rust-through is a problem. Not too odd to see Gilligs in use by the airport. Always amazes me when I pick-up or drop-off people from DTW to see all the rental car companies running Gilligs around (especially given that they have ever-changing drivers). They are cheap buses after all, so I guess they get their money's worth out of them. They'd actually be better off running old RTSes or New Flyers from the transit agencies following a good overhaul/refurb, but those buyers must not even consider that for some reason (probably since they're not the ones maintaining them). 4654 missing the front livery -- makes it look naked. GojiMet86 Posted April 7, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted April 7, 2016 Golden Touch used to run at least 20 of those Bluebirds into the city to shuttle plane crews into hotels. Now they have MCI F3500s, Stallions, Caio, and Glaval buses doing that. They are also the ones who run those Gilligs at JFK. They bought the first D40LFs ever produced from the Port Authority, who recieved them in 1991. I also saw two D35LF, I wonder where those come from. That pair of white RTS also belongs them, I believe they are ex-San Antonio.
