Around the Horn Posted September 20 Share #8726 Posted September 20 I would love to see Hitachi build subway cars for us, I think their designs for Washington DC and Philadelphia are really nice but I would encourage you all to keep an eye on Siemens who just moved forward on an upstate New York plant, initially for Brightline West's HSR trains, expected to open in 2026. Depending on the size of the plant, it could also handle building subway cars at the same time. https://press.siemens.com/global/en/pressrelease/siemens-mobility-establish-americas-first-high-speed-rail-production-facility

FLX9304 Posted Saturday at 02:27 PM Share #8735 Posted Saturday at 02:27 PM The R211s running on the was gonna happen anyways with CBTC operations on the 8th Ave coming soon, they want all lines to carry 60’ subway cars, whether it’s 8 or 10 car lengths. With 150 cars (or less) left to be delivered, the gets first dibs on the R211s, eventually all cars will ultimately operate on the since Pitkin Yard is 1/2 home to both lines. The 207th-M is the other spot.

Better to get newer cars earlier than later Pretty sure this was already mentioned somewhere, but the "third option" of 355 train cars will be put under a separate contract (or what would be called R268s at this time, the capital plan didn't give an official contract number to my knowledge). This is akin to the R179s and how they supplement the R160s.
Comrade96 Posted Sunday at 03:29 PM Share #8737 Posted Sunday at 03:29 PM the capital plan may not have mentioned them but the R268 will be the next B div contract as it is already under a RFP (request for proposals)

However, there is a possibility that Concourse may get the r160's, while Jamaica may get both option orders. Either way, the "B" and "D" will need NTTs since 6th Avenue will get CBTC.
SimplyMyself Posted Monday at 04:55 AM Share #8743 Posted Monday at 04:55 AM (edited) Seems like the is planning to continue maintaining some of the remaining R44s as a contingency fleet through 2026, while the R211S’ are initially rolled out. The last sets of R46's would probably end on the before being retired or sent to coney island. The uses around 38 to 40 sets. Without spares or sharing R179s with the , The can be 100% tech right now. The R46's are practically Spares or put-ins for the While the uses the majority of them.
