One interesting thing about the capital program is that the R211's will also retire a portion of the R68 fleet (i'm not surprised at this at all)  The option order II cars were supposed to be for fleet expansion but i guess not. I can see this changing though.

Honestly I think they should order a third option order if they can, even if the the whole early retirement fiasco for the R44s hadn't happened the delays in the R179s would have still been a problem. Better to get newer cars earlier than later

Kinda surprised they completely shunned the 59th Street Junction (IND 8th) and the entire IRT [including Roger's Junction) from CBTC installation considering those corners cause heavy delays..

They weren’t shunned per say, but won’t be chosen until certain other projects get priority. The IRT as a whole (barring the (7) Line) won’t get CBTC until the R-262 contract is well underway so that’ll take time. As for 59th on the other hand, 8th Avenue CBTC starts AT 59th-Columbus Circle and with 6th on the table as well, I think it’d make sense to account for the junction.

For those guys who are hunting for an R211A (C) train, keep an eye out. It might run today. Right now on one of the 168 St (A) train trips and the consist is 4230-4234 / 4XXX-4XXX.

That's a Rockaway Park (A) tripper, no 211As debuted on the (C) yet........................

oh okay. I thought the 168 St trips would change over from the (A) to the (C) for midday service, then switch back to the (A) for the Rockaway Park trips out of 168 St.

could they negotiate with Kawasaki for another one? If not maybe base the R268 on the R211 like how the R68As were R68s from a different manufacturer

most likely not, I feel like that time frame came and went

R142A cars 7731-7810 were built under a supplemental contract between 2004 and 2005 to supplement the rest of the R142A's which were built between 1999 and 2002. In the unlikely event that the MTA chooses to negotiate with Kawasaki for another option, they would probably do something similar and order some additional R211's under a supplemental contract after OO2.

I read on Kawasaki's website that the base order was 535 cars, and the MTA exercised and ordered an additional 640 with a final option of 437. Are they exercising that final 437, which I assume will send a few sets to the B and D Line? Am I off? Thanks!

yes but this is assuming kawasaki would be willing to do a supplemental contract

Maybe Hitachi would be willing to build them once they wrap up the WMATA cars in 2027. Assuming deliveries are the same pace, the entire base order will probably be in service by the end of the year, with options 1 and 2 done by middle to end of 2026

Alstom is begging for a bid for next contracts after not getting a part of the 211’s

they're likely going to get the R262 order unless it's split with Kawasaki like the R160 order. They can also get the R268 order too.
