Logistically, it's because of the 4309 incident. The frame damaged 4309 IS the new 4474 and it'll surface later after repairs are done to match the current delivery schedule or close to it. Let's not be surprised when a 4300-set is gonna be a couple weeks late from the rotation of deliveries. Its not to 'speed up' anything.

Y'all really need to grasp in mind that the Yonkers satellite facility DOES NOT BUILD CARS! They RECEIVE, MAINTAIN and HOLD them until the customer, in there zone, is ready to take em; Forgetting why the SIR units are there in the first place.

4474 isn’t even there yet what are you talking about?

Some thoughts: though CBTC on 8th Avenue is dependent on the R2111 delivery schedule (the original target date was January 2025 for full contract completion, now pushed back about a year) and that NYCT would not start CBTC cutover/in -service until the base order is fully delivered, would it be possible to do similar to what was done on the (7) in  2017-2018? Even before the last R62As left the (7), partial CBTC was in service on nights and weekends north of 74th Street as the R62As only ran as needed on peak schedules. Even though some R46s would remain on (A)/(C) into early 2025, could partial service be done on night/weekends when R179/R211s would be sufficient to meet the schedule? This is also the first time CBTC is been activated on a main Manhattan trunk line, so additional break-in on the new system would be a plus.

If Pitkin by any chance has any remaining r46s by early 2025, it would probably be used for rush hour on the "C". By then, the "C" should have in addition to the eight car r179s, r211As (shared with the "A" train) plus both Ts.

Does anyone have any idea how many more r211s need to enter service on the "A" before we start seeing them on the "C"?

Only one (C) train gets laid up after the rush and that becomes an (A) later on. Sooner or later that's going to be an R211A until they decide if the (C) goes 10 cars or not. The rest of the (C) fleet stays out all day, That's why there are still some R46's on the (A) since they can get laid up. CBTC on 8th ave isn't going to start until late 2025 to early 2026 since it got delayed.

From the June 2024 Capital Program R211 report (page 28), the need date for a full CBTC fleet on 8th Avenue (in time for cutover and in-service commissioning) is May 2025. Substantial completion is not due until 2026, however, but CBTC will launch in segments during 2025.

Is Yonkers having shells from Lincoln or Kobe? I know the R211s are pushing to Lincoln to full capacity, so shifting some assembly and production to Yonkers would help expedite delivery.

That I don't know, but 4470-4474 being there means they might get some to help speed up the order since the SIR units are almost done.

So what’s likely to happen is that 8th Avenue CBTC will be slowly activated in Phases where they do 1-2 Tracks at a time in little segments like how they did with previous CBTC Projects. Start testing them in the weekends only and then slowly expand to the Weekday schedule.

Culver most recently did this with initially activating CBTC between Kings Highway to West 8th on B1 Track only, then within the next months, Kings Highway-West 8 on B3/4, B2, the Yard Leads (B5 and B6) then the same with Kings Highway to Ditmas on each track and so on. I’d expect the same process to be done with 8th Avenue but IDK how exactly it will be done.

And to bring this back on topic, its likely that by that point, R-46’s will dwindle on the (A) and (C) Line as a majority of the 211 Base Order should be on System Property by that point.

This is the 27th R211A for the (A). And counting both R211A and R211T, there are now 290 cars in service.

Wow, almost 300 cars in service. From 290, we got 170 Cars left (not counting the 75 R-211S’s that have yet to enter service) that still need to enter service.

Also I believe that within the remainder of this month or within the next 3 months, we’ll get the Verdict on what the (MTA) has chosen to do with the R-211T’s and Option Order 2.
