RSMG106 Posted June 22, 2023 Share #5352 Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) As of this time, here is where the R211 rolling stock is currently at: Pitkin Yard: R211A: 4060-4069 (Pilot Set), 4080-4089. (4065-4069 are under inspection) Coney Island Yard: R211T: 4040-4049 (Hard Shell), 4050-4059 (Soft Shell) R211A: 4070-4079, 4090-4094 (4095-4099 is expected to leave South Brooklyn Railway overnight, and transfer to Coney Island Yard) R211S: 100-104 (It will be transferred to Clifton Yard later this month) Currently, there are 40 R211As, 20 R211Ts, and 5 R211S. Therefore, all r68's have to leave the B/D. That's why Concourse will most likely get a good chunk of the 1st option order. There are still rumors that the B may move to Concourse. I don't know how that's going to work out. Edited June 22, 2023 by subwaycommuter1983
AZthefoamer Posted June 22, 2023 Share #5354 Posted June 22, 2023 My guess is that because of capacity reasons QBL (likely E and F) will get R211s and the B and D can get the R160 sets from the E and F.

There is enough storage space and CI can handle two types of equipment (it has done so and continues to do so to this day).

Off-topic, but assuming this is the case and reamains the case once SAS gets far enough along, perhaps the ’s trains could be based out of Coney Island Yard. For morning rush, s end at 125 Street and continue in service as s. For evening rush, s head back to Coney Island as s.

That’s not how CBTC works. Just because the A and C will begin using it there, does not mean that the B and D need it just because of 59th. it’s because we will need them to be compatible if they’re sent further down 8th avenue.

Yes even though CBTC territory is stated to start at 59’St, it may be just south of the interlocking, so TECHNICALLY the NTTs wouldn’t be needed. 2). the will have to get upgraded regardless because of the 8 Av reroutes possible, similar to how the will need to be upgraded once 6 Av CBTC is up and running
AZthefoamer Posted June 23, 2023 Share #5359 Posted June 23, 2023 Either B/D or N/Q/W will get NTTs and the other will get SMEEs, and it makes more sense for B/D to get NTTs.

The F will also get rerouted, but the F already has NTTs.

As noted in the past, Concourse barn, with 3 tracks including one for wheel truing, does not have enough room to inspect and repair trouble cars for 2 long mileage routes. CIYD has plenty of room to continue to maintain the number of cars for the B line. CCYD can continue to store, but not maintain, B cars between the rush hours, overnights and weekends. It's beyond comprehension why this thought process of CCYD being able to possibly maintain both the B and D fleets continues to be bought up every few months.

This has been explained many times and people just don't seem to get it. Unless the & are switching yards, there is no reason for the to move to Concourse. It is just fine at Coney Island yard.

I think it's because, at least for some of the armchair transit planners, the work DCE does is an afterthought for them at best. They don't know how long it takes for a train to be inspected and to correct whatever problems the come up. I had a post GO put-in from CCYD several months back, my partner does all his inspections, we're almost set to go, when we notice one of the end doors would not lock. Call it in, and within 5 minutes we had an RCI and two guys from the shop who spent a good 15 minutes pulling the lock apart from the backside (removing the whole panel off the #2 end cab wall where the offside enabler would be) and repositioning it to get the door to stay closed. The got it in place, and we made our interval. watching that, I since have had nothing but the greatest respect for them.

Option 2 will allow the NQW to get some of their r160's back. It makes much more sense for Jamaica to get option 2 due to ridership.
Lawrence St Posted June 23, 2023 Share #5366 Posted June 23, 2023 So it seems there was another reset we didn’t know about, as rumors are still floating around that it’s in 30 day testing.

R211Ts and R211Ss will do their 30 days I think later this summer.
