That was the order for the R28 (7860-7959) that left 7960-7999 open. 8000-8009 was mixture of prototype trains that was never ordered for the BMT and later, the R110A’s 8001-8010. 8010-8019 was R11/34 & 8020-8100 was originally R27s of the 1960s that went up to 8249. 8101 to aforementioned is now part of the R143 numbering. 7937-8100 is now open my secondary theory would that the 140 cars (7961-8100) for the options. sorry I meant to say end at 7960 for the shuttle order. GojiMet86 Posted January 18, 2020 Share #1377 Posted January 18, 2020 I guess 5-digit numbers starting at 10001 was too hard for the MTA. That would have satisfied my OCD. But noooo, we have to go with these mixes, and I bet you the order will wind up having 4 and 5 car consist fleet numbers arranged weirdly.
R32 3838 Posted January 18, 2020 Share #1378 Posted January 18, 2020 Base order cars could be 3941-4380. 3941-5000 is open (R42's would be gone by then) 5201-5480 is also open as well. Numbering based by base/option order could go by this: Base order R211A: 3941-4380 (440 cars) Option order 1: 4381-5000, 5201-5220 (640 cars) Option Order 2: 5221-5657 or 3348-3785 (437 cars) Open gangway cars R211T's could also be 3328-3347 I don't know if the R211S numbering would still be 3 digit or 4 digit.

XcelsiorBoii4888 Posted January 18, 2020 Share #1380 Posted January 18, 2020 Front looks very good, but I'm not pleased at all with the R211A, the R211T is officially my next generation subway car. Not this knock off version.
VIP Posted January 18, 2020 Share #1381 Posted January 18, 2020 So how would we refer to these cars? “R211” or R211A’s ?? And if the test trains “pass” Testing and it’s approved for open gangways do we refer to those as “R211T’s” or “R211”???

Nice According to the article, 3 10 car test trains are being built. Also, the MTA confirmed in a board meeting today that the lines that will most likely get the r211's will be the A, C, G, N, W and maybe E. It's due to compatibility with 8th Avenue, Crosstown and Astoria CBTC. BTW I didn't know that the Astoria line is going to be CBTC within the next five years. That's a surprise.

Shouldn’t Queens Blvd get them first? The and the I could see getting them to replace the R46. I question the because they’re out of the CI yd.

The MTA also confirmed that the r211's will be compatible with Crosstown and Astoria CBTC. Also, I forgot to the mention the Q getting r211's (option orders). R68OnBroadway Posted January 22, 2020 Share #1392 Posted January 22, 2020 R211s will probably go to the to replace older cars while the could get them to help with QBL crowds. It would be better to just give those R160s back to CI after the R211s start coming in.

It would be better to just give those R160s back to CI after the R211s start coming in. With more reason, the E has the biggest chance of getting the r211's out of all QBL lines. It's one of the most crowded lines and it goes to 8th Avenue. The MTA did not mention anything about the r160's being compatible with 8th Avenue CBTC, so it is unclear whether or not the r160's can stay on the E once CBTC on 8th Avenue is complete. 1 hour ago, FLX9304 said: Which will be the first line to get articulated trains? trainfan22 Posted January 22, 2020 Share #1395 Posted January 22, 2020 I wonder why the production trains will come full YEAR after the pilot train is delivered.. So if the pilot train wraps up testing in a few months only one 211 set would be running in service for some time. It's funny the R143 was the first of it's kind and it only took about 2 months of non revenue testing before it entered service... While both the 160 and 179 took a year to complete non revenue testing.

While both the 160 and 179 took a year to complete non revenue testing. Depends on who builds them. The R160A was build by Alstom and R179s was by Bombardier (you already know the story). The R160B-1 was built by Kawasaki and entered service in 2006. They did had 8713-8722 running on the for 30, then put on the for both passenger and crew training. At the same time, 8723-8732 was being delivered to 207, they said, we’re keeping them for the Broadway line. Every month, 30 cars was coming in. While the first set was on the , R160B-2 8843-8852 was delivered but had a different sound— Siemens traction. By 2008, the entire 260 car order R160B-2 (8843-9102) was completed! Kawasaki’s version of the R160B’s was already by the time the 2010s decade began. Their list of B division cars: R143 8101-8312 R160B-1 8713-8842, 9103-9232, 9803-9942 R160B-2 8843-9102 Kawasaki is the exclusive builder to the R211 class. it shouldn’t take long for 30 cars (1 train of standards, 1 train of articulated and 1 for SI) to pass the test, and here they come in bunches. Lucky for them, the R143 was a lot like the R142A under the hood, so I'm guessing whatever teething-related fixes were applied to the R142A were successfully applied to the R143 very quickly. CBTC otoh was probably a whole other animal..
