Novabus 5000 Posted January 1, 2018 Share #1227 Posted January 1, 2018 Happy new years folks! It is with a sad stomach that I report the following buses from the museum fleet are going to or already have been scrapped: -MTA NYC Bus 6000 (1999 Orion V) -MTA NYC Bus 1000 (Ex-1004; 1996 New Flyer D60HF) -Command Bus 4904 (1994 TMC RTS CNG) -Nick

What problems are plaguing the buses from being preserved like the Fishbowls and such?

Or is it too far off to guess/be able to tell.
T J Trainman Posted January 1, 2018 Share #1232 Posted January 1, 2018 I’m very appalled to hear this news. It is what it is I guess. Smh.
trainfan22 Posted January 1, 2018 Share #1233 Posted January 1, 2018 Wow man, I'm really bummed about 4904 being scrapped, I never got to ride an CNG RTS only like 2 TAs ever bought CNG RTS I wouldn't be surprised if 4904 was the last CNG RTS in existence. As for the D60, one of the PBL TMC RTSs should have been scrapped and have the D60 take its place. I love the 6000 Orion's but... There's already an 93 Orion in the museum fleet so the 6000 not making it doesn't hurt that much.

MHV9218 Posted January 2, 2018 Share #1237 Posted January 2, 2018 1004 doesn't kill me that much just cause faking the 1000 status wasn't so hot anyway. 6000 is a bummer, but at least we have the 1993 Orion V for that fleet. But 4904? Who was the moron who approved that one?

That bus was not a 1999 unit.

But the real 1000 was a 1996 unit along with 1001, and saving the 1997 1004 and faking it as a pilot bus for the museum fleet didn't make sense to me. The real 1000 and 1001 were the only 1996 buses in the order and had the older trannys to match. Guess it doesn't matter now though.
R188 7857 Posted January 2, 2018 Share #1240 Posted January 2, 2018 First 647 (1306?), now 6000. Guess there's only one Orion V in the museum fleet now. Sucks because the Orion Vs were such a large fleet at one point.

They have to re certify the tanks every 12 - 15 years etc, probably cost too much money considering the TM probably has limited funds. I always thought 4904 would stick around only because of its historical value as an RTS that uses CNG, TBH I never expected 4904 to run again at the very least I thought it would be a static display at Roadeo/Atlantic Antic type of events or maybe one day the TM would have a space to display its museum buses year round. IIRC, that green double decker museum bus that stored at ENY doesn't run and had to be towed whenever it was bought out for events, same could have been done for 4904. When Orion V CNG 317 (First CNG bus MTA ever had) and C40LF 801 (first successful LF bus model in the TA) didn't get saved that's when I knew saving CNG buses for the museum fleet + keeping them operational wasn't gonna work out to well... The numbering for that series was originally supposed to be 1001-1070. When they changed the numbering to 1000-1069, 1000 was delivered (it was originally going to be numbered 1070).

They could've kept it around for a while and even a D60HF for at least one more year. Happy 2018 to everyone on here!!!!
