BM5 via Woodhaven Posted March 8, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 8, 2015 ....not. 2013 New Flyer C40LF 645 on the Q38 at Penelope Avenue/Woodhaven Blvd by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr So, I was tracking the BM5 when I got to my bus stop. I check one of the apps (BusTracker), which I regularly use. I see a QM15 going down to Lindenwood. Now, you may be wondering what the problem initially is. The time is roughly past 1:45 PM. The bus is suppose to arrive Lindenwood at 1:51 PM, depart again as the 2:00 PM bus to Manhattan. Travel to/from Middle Village to Lindenwood is 25 minutes. So with brakes and everything allotted, in my mind, I said "sucks for everyone needing that trip". The Bus would leave 14 minutes late, and be late even more by the time it reaches Manhattan on that run. Anyways, I check the app to see this beautiful site (brown line represent QM15, Blue icon represents BM5). I know QM15 is unreliable on Saturdays, but not those 30-40 minute delays. Those extreme Saturday delays usually occur from Late October-December 31. Woodhaven Blvd Express Buses bunching by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr I decided to take the QM15, because I would have more time for some extra pics (since I would be able to take the BM5 instead of the QM15 (which departs 57th st 11 minutes after the 15 departs 34th). And here the bus is: 2005 MCI D4500CL 3119 on the QM15 at Woodhaven Blvd/63 Drive by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr The BM5 I intended to get on actually got to Midtown first by several minutes. I also wondered what was going on, that the QM15 I got on was so behind (the bus was 30 minutes late getting to my stop; by the time it left Manhattan it was 40 minutes behind). Turns out it was the Bridge traffic (one level was cut off or something). I went to get a shot of the bus at 63 Drive (since the QM15 drops off once before 63 Drive and the BM5 doesn't stop at that stop). 2005 MCI D4500CL 3121 on the QM15 at Woodhaven Blvd/63 Drive by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr This QM15 was also late (4:46 PM at 63 Drive, when the bus is suppose to leave Lindenwood at 5 PM). I walked home, and took this shot: 2013 New Flyer C40LF 645 on the Q38 at Eliot Avenue/82 Street by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr Enjoy!

Q113 LTD Posted March 8, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 8, 2015 Great pics Heavy traffic on Woodhaven Blvd during pm rush(after 5pm) is a nightmare. Sometimes express buses use the service road instead of the main road if it is that bad.
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted March 8, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted March 8, 2015 Great pics Heavy traffic on Woodhaven Blvd during pm rush(after 5pm) is a nightmare. Sometimes express buses use the service road instead of the main road if it is that bad. This was yesterday. Traffic is generally not the worst, but can get pretty congested from about 10 AM until the evening hours (Gets bad around 3-6 PM). Granted I know traffic is still bad, only if there arent any riders getting off can it get away with that (and the main road doesnt exist for that many stops). I havent seen QM15's use the main road though, the BM5's do use it from Forest Park Drove to Rockaway Blvd (because it doesn't stop). Only the QM16/17 use the main roads in both directions, but they dont run on Saturdays. Regardless, it wasnt so much the Woodhaven Blvd traffic that severely delayed the QM15, but moreso the bridge traffic going outbound. The regular Woodhaven traffic made the delays even worse (because the QM15 wouldnt be so late with only dealing with Woodhaven Traffic, unless there was an accident. Dealing with Woodhaven Blvd traffic and the chaotic mess that was on 57 Street because of the bridge construction would then throw the QM15 schedule out the window. NewFlyer 230 Posted March 9, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2015 Traffic on Woodhaven vs Traffic in Flushing on Main St I'd pick Woodhaven traffic. It can take 10-15 minutes for any bus to travel between Northern Blvd and Kissena Blvd and its sad because that is only 4 blocks.
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted March 9, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted March 9, 2015 Traffic on Woodhaven vs Traffic in Flushing on Main St I'd pick Woodhaven traffic. It can take 10-15 minutes for any bus to travel between Northern Blvd and Kissena Blvd and its sad because that is only 4 blocks. I'll agree with you on that. However, to me it was wierd seeing QM15's delayed by that much, because buses come late on Saturdays frequently. The thing is, Woodhaven Blvd traffic wouldn't make these bus so late as they were (up to 40 minutes late), so I knew there has to been something other than Woodhaven traffic which is delaying the route. Ya might wanna check 6759's number Yea, thanks for the heads up!
