Coney Island Av Posted October 6, 2018 Share #4278 Posted October 6, 2018 I've noticed a pattern over the last couple of weeks. Every time a new R179 set enters service on the , an R160 from the goes back to ENY. This should bump out another 10-18 R32s to 207 St soon. However, once 3150-3157 enter service on the , that's when they'll send another set of R160s, which will be enough to displace the last R32s at ENY to the .

I hope they power wash and do some heavy maintenance/inspections to those R160s when they get back to ENY. 207 St pretty much ran those R160s to the ground to minimize use of other fleets on the Many of the B division lines have roughly the same frequency of service throughout the week except rush hours, so they spend very little time in the shop, combined with the fleet shortage, contributing to the poor state of the subway cars, and may explain the low MDBFs.

Jemorie Posted October 7, 2018 Share #4283 Posted October 7, 2018 It would be lovely to see their durable stainless steel car bodies repainted as well. The entire car body inside and out. But then again, SMS isn't really all about making trains look so "sweet" looking anyway lol.
AJ of JGD Posted October 8, 2018 Share #4284 Posted October 8, 2018 How beneficial is the SMS work to an R32? Should SMS work happen to those R42s as well?

A lot of R42’s have had SMS already. You can look towards the top of the roof. If it’s nice and shiny, it prob got SMS’d, also if the sides look clean and shiny, that’s also a dead giveaway.

Its not possible to "paint" stainless steel exterior bodies, only to clean off the gunk and grime. Interior paint only requires maintenance, depending on how much abuse is applied.

AJ of JGD Posted October 10, 2018 Share #4289 Posted October 10, 2018 Why do I feel like every line is running school cars? I feel like the more schoolcars, the more chances a thread FOR the schoolcars is going to coming into existance.

If they were carbon steel, like the Redbirds, then I'd agree.
