lilbluefoxie Posted December 17, 2011 Share #126 Posted December 17, 2011 That's how things were on those Els. You have to see the pics of the platforms of the Franklin Shuttle before it was rehabilitated. its a known fact the Franklin was the worst one out of all of em hehe

Queens Surface Posted December 19, 2011 Share #130 Posted December 19, 2011 Are the wooden platforms in better condition then the ones in those two pictures I posted? Yeah, the CTA platforms are in much better shape than those two photos.

RookiePhenom Posted December 19, 2011 Share #132 Posted December 19, 2011 Yeah, the CTA platforms are in much better shape than those two photos. Exception to the rule: These were just rehabbed as of Early 2010 as part of the Brown Line rehab project. However, still better than those posted. http://www.chicagonewscoop.org/renovated-l-platforms-require-costly-repairs-as-wood-planks-deteriorate-after-2-years/

Brighton Express Posted December 29, 2011 Share #136 Posted December 29, 2011 I actually love the R32's and as long as the RFW is still intact, I'll keep loving them, and wishing they ran on the . I saw one running on the but this was in like 2005-2006. I caught it at Church Av after I was on the ( from 47-50 sts.
lilbluefoxie Posted December 29, 2011 Share #137 Posted December 29, 2011 Cool! Didn't think they had wooden platforms still. You learn something new everyday. the LIRR Hollis and Boland's Landing stations have wooden platforms.

St Louis Car 09 Posted January 1, 2012 Share #143 Posted January 1, 2012 I would have loved to see the R44 get a SMS,but in that case they need a 1991 overhaul all over again. The TA could seriously build a new frame for them in-house with some outside expertise.

lilbluefoxie Posted January 20, 2012 Share #149 Posted January 20, 2012 I agree, the always has this dingy look to it when compared to the . The used to be bad when the 44s were on it, but the 46s at least look in better shape. Those 32s were past their prime 10 years ago, most of em have peeling paint inside, scratchiti everywhere, and feature the systems highest breakdown rates, the PA systems are often crackily and hard to hear, and the conductors have to dangerously walk between the cars to get to the buttons on the other side of the train. Its too bad they cant fast track the R179s and get em in service already.
jimbob60 Posted January 20, 2012 Share #150 Posted January 20, 2012 Definitely a poorly produced segment when you consider that the R46's are only some 12 years or so newer on average (midpoint of delivery schedule) than the R32's and the C actually runs R46's in summer months. I agree the better comparison would be between the C and E trains. The C is bad because it runs only 8 cars (for no reason, unlike the J, L & M whose platforms cannot accomodate trains longer than 8cars) which causes overcrowding the 1st and last car at times, only runs R32's (aside from the summer months) and is the only line to run the R32's. The E ran only R32's up until almost 4 years ago as R40's and R42's started to appear in mid 2008 with R160's coming in late 2008 with the line all R160 by mid 2009. Unlike years ago when many types of cars ran on any 1 line, most lines run only 1 type of train today. Of course keep in mind the R160's retired fully R38's, R40's (slants and M's), R42's and R44's so that the system has fewer types of cars now than it had prior to 2000 when NTT;s first came on the seen.
