zacster Posted September 6, 2023 Share #8034 Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) It's funny, there are so many combinations on this and yet the roll signs they replaced were so inflexible with only a handful of combos. It goes up to 1245 but a lot of them are repetitive or just variations on each other that convey no additional meaning. There is probably room for a lot more too. The ones I didn't see though were for the M, which is what made me comment in the first place. Edited September 6, 2023 by zacster

Now fully R46s?? (thumbs down) I'd better not see any complaining that MDBFs are in the 10,000s or 20,000s next update, because all I have to say is "I TOLD YOU SO". With the now at every 8 minutes, no trains get removed from service between rush hours, so none of those trains get breaks, except for the mere 2 86 St trips. they should have just left the all R46s and leave the 1/2 R68 and 1/2 R46.

Why are Coney's R46s worse? Have you seen the Pitkin ones? they are, no joke, falling apart. Coney got mostly Jamaica R46s which were in better condition to begin with.

zacster Posted September 11, 2023 Share #8043 Posted September 11, 2023 I've been on both CI and Pitkin R46s lately and they are both in pretty rough shape. I mostly ride the Q and even the R68s run better on that line. I wouldn't be surprised if they start to retire the R46s even before they build up a spare factor with the R211s so they can stop maintaining them.

They didn’t have a pure R46 fleet though, and this was years before when the R46s weren’t in the dilapidated state they are now.

Yes and the cars are now older. Remember that once Jamaica found out they had the green light to take all Coney Islands R160s, they let the R46s go to shit and stopped maintaining them. A few times during the swap Coney Island would send back R46s to Jamaica and had them repair the cars because they were not cleared for service. But the most important thing is that now the cars are even older and low spare factor that now got even lower because of “8-minute service all day” meaning that these cars don’t get a break. And now that they won’t even have the R68s to help out, since clearly the MTA sees riders as second class citizens (downgrades to the line since 2017 and a huge nosedive in late 2019-early 2020). Where are the politicians that used to fight for better subway service? Whats next, getting rid of the just for giggles? Based on other ppl's comments and my own observation, the is a much more demanding line compared to the . So for that reason alone it makes sense for the to have more R68/As, especially when they all eventually get the 96th St. Rollsigns.
