Gotcha gotcha! So that means 43 R46 Trains at Jamaica Yard plus 04 extra cars.

Still not sure what you mean, but Jamaica had 99 4-car links of R46s before the swap.  Now they have 87.

That would be doubled to create 43½ 8-car trains.  Of course they'd only really use 43 if so.

Coney Island had 570 R160s before the swap or 114 5-car links.  Now they have 106.

That would be doubled to create 53 10-car trains.

Coney Island keeps enough equipment to create up to 99 full-length trains.

In actual the schedule is not like that in reality if mainly because of the 2-car trains used on the Franklin Shuttle (S) by 2916-24, and the 13 4-car trains (single 75-foot link) used on the "Crosstown" ((G)).

Does that make sense?

Question: The R160’s that remain in Coney Island Yard, are they all going to be assigned to the (Q) line? Are they going to split between the (N), (Q), (W)? Something I’ve been wondering...

Yeah the new techs aren’t going to get special treatment, they’re up for grabs between the (N)(W) and (Q) ... remember how during rush hours we’d see an R160 (R) train or two, and get hype about it? Yeah, That’s EXACTLY how it’s going to be on the Broadway lines. The R160’s will be unicorns.

Since 2016 the (N) has gone downhill similar to how 2001-2004 was with the route swaps

2016 - Sea Beach Reconstruction begins

2016 - (W) train returns but means fewer trains outside rush hours in Astoria and car shortage is noticed.

2017 - Astoria Stations begin Construction

2018 - 4 Av Express tunnel begins repairs

2019 - Astoria Blvd closes & (N) train is cut from Stillwell Av

2019-2020 - (N) loses almost all R160s for the worst performing subway car (outside the R32)

if they still did the state of the subway report card, you’d see the (N) at the bottom of the list again like it was in the 90s and early 2000s

Could have never said it any better lol. However, the only thing I do not agree with is the (W) part. Outside of rush hours, Astoria levels have always been the very same - 12 tph. That’s a train every 5 minutes mathematically on average. Off-peak (Q) service prior to SAS was 6 tph like the current (W) service. No service off-peak was cut before and after SAS open with the exception of Astoria-related GOs of course.

darkstar8983 is not referring to the frequency but rather the span of service. The (Q) ran to/from Astoria for a longer span each day than the (W)

Southbound (Q) service from Astoria ran from 6:02 AM to 11:01 PM. Northbound (Q)s arrived at Astoria from  6:34 AM to 11:34 PM. From 2008-2010 and from 2016 to 2018, the span of Southbound (W) service was from 6:53 AM to 9:58 PM, and northbound service arrived from Astoria from 7:45 AM to 11:29 PM. Because (W) service to/from Astoria started later and ended earlier than former (Q) service, bringing back the (W) effectively reduced the number of trips to/from Astoria during those early morning hours and late evening hours. There were some news articles written back when the (W) returned pointing this out.

This was addressed in 2018 when the (W) schedule was adjusted and the span of southbound service from Astoria was increased from 6:13 AM to 10:07 PM (with northbound trains arriving at Astoria from 7:47 AM to 11:48 PM). Of course, back in November 2019, evening (W) service was adjusted to end a little earlier, with the last southbound leaving Astoria at 9:26 PM, and the last northbound arriving at 10:55 PM, but the increased service in the morning remains.

Were the (N) and (Q) ever interlined when the (Q) ran in Queens?

Ok...

There’s no special selection of fleet Numbers to be transferred to/from, these transfers are contingent upon inspection completion and approval by yard personnel. Hopefully this answers any questions as to which sets are getting transferred.

Totally, that’s what I thought. Don’t know why that kiddo makes a list of cars and then says “to be transferred” if it’s a matter of approval. Thanks for the clarification BTW. You’re insights are always very helpful. :)

Jamaica isn’t doing well with their car inspections. Coney Island barn is NOT having it. (N) and (W) crews have made complaints. Also this swap is apocalyptic for SeaBeach, Astoria, and Broadway riders. They’re going to notice the difference really quickly.

This why the (B) should have gotten the R46's first alongside the (G)

They'll do way better on the (B) vs. the (N)

Hopefully they continue to complain until they do something. R46's on Broadway. Are. Not. A. Good. Idea.

Where else are they gonna run? If (A) and (F) riders can deal with R46s then so can Broadway riders. Lex local riders got a down grade with the 62As, a car with smaller doors AND a crappier HAVC system and they deal with it.

Broadway riders can handle 75 footers on their lines until the 211s come in service.

Again a new subject:

We have a list of 20 newly retired R-32s at 207, presumably to be batched processing (stripped) for scrapping soon.

IF this is done as the last time so around 2010 and the reefing before that, all were dismembered at Tracks 11 & 12 inside the Main Shops.

Lets see how this works.

It appears a guess so far will entail 20 cars per work for 4 weeks (that would be the 80 cars as widely circulated).

Interested in the specific car numbers or is that TMI?

What were the car numbers?

Do the R-32’s still run on the (A) line? TTMG roster shows all active cars assigned to the (C) line (but you know TTMG often doesn’t update).
