Bill from Maspeth Posted November 22, 2012 Share #7 Posted November 22, 2012 What's the alternative? The cars are were/are in bad shape and that's why they were retired! Shall we scrap 4280/81)? However, there is no reason for a dirty floor. Mop it!
B3 Via Av U Posted November 22, 2012 Share #8 Posted November 22, 2012 What has the in mind?!? Are they going to just let these historic trains rust as though they were worthless CRAP?!??

+Young+ Posted November 22, 2012 Share #10 Posted November 22, 2012 I know where these cars were stored...however I do not want to tell - I'll keep it a secret. Anyways, as far as the dirty floor is concerned - once the museum crew cleans it all up, they will open the doors for the customers - should be ready by next week. RFC Posted November 22, 2012 Share #11 Posted November 22, 2012 I wonder if hurricane sandy caused any rust typical nor easter rain and snow etc (Just a thought if they kept it outside) But seriously damn what the hell is wrong with the MTA for letting them rot like that these trains are in the museum for a reason. Threxx Posted November 22, 2012 Share #12 Posted November 22, 2012 Damn... the rust is also partially from the 70's acid baths... sad to see them like that.

trainfan22 Posted November 23, 2012 Share #19 Posted November 23, 2012 Wow, is there any realistic way they could fix that? Like rebuild these cars to stop them from rusting?
Guest Lance Posted November 24, 2012 Share #20 Posted November 24, 2012 I guess "preserved" doesn't mean preserved. Damn, and I thought the 42s looked terrible. It looks like the front end is about to fall off in that close up shot. They are going to need some serious dough to fix these old dogs. Nice pics btw. Just wish the content photographed didn't look so pitiful.

Nova RTS 9147 Posted November 24, 2012 Share #23 Posted November 24, 2012 Nice shots R33WF. Damn, they deteriorated with indoor storage? No.....they were already rusting before the museum touched them. In fact, aside from that disgusting floor, the cars dont look that much worse than when they left service. The will probably do a rehab of some sort on a later date.
Dj Hammers Posted November 25, 2012 Share #24 Posted November 25, 2012 There is word that there are issues with rats and leaking water damaging cars in the tunnels outside the transit museum, but I heard this a while ago. I'm not sure if its 100% true. Can somebody who KNOWS what they are talking about confirm/deny?
