(A) to 96th was announced at 9AM. These are the changes.

(A) 207-145, 96-Queens

(C) not running.

(D) 205-145, 42-Coney

(Q) 42-Coney

Extra service on the (E)(S)(3)(4).

Shuttle bus between 145 (A)(D) and 96 (1)(2)(3).

https://new.mta.info/article/service-changes-c-d-and-q-lines-november-2024

Missed opportunity to send the (D) up to 96 St too but I guess they didn’t want the (A)(D)(F) all on the 63 St tracks. Also 42 St Bryant Park is not a good terminal, with trains alternating between the two express tracks, unless one of the two express tracks will be taken out of service and the (D) using the other track as a pocket-track terminal.

Having the D turn at 42nd keeps it on the express track without mucking up the local track.  In the old days they had the F terminate at 34th St and only used the uptown track coming from the other direction.  They must have alternated between the D crossing over and the F leaving as they went towards 42nd St.  But why isn't the Q terminating at 57th St as it had for decades?  At least it is running through to Manhattan from Brooklyn.  The last few weeks have been a PITA.

But why can't the A just run to 34th St/8th Ave?  I thought it could turn there.  That's what they did during the asbestos explosion, when the Q ran to 207th.

Con-current track work on the express track b/w 42nd St and 63rd St as I was told.

Although, they should’ve had the (Q) run to Astoria and did a con-current G.O with the (7) to speed up projects.

Not any worse than Brighton Beach

Given the 24/7 suspension planned between Christmas and New Year, how come a shutdown wasn't also planned Thanksgiving weekend (Fri-Sun)? At least one year (2020) the 53rd Street Line had a Thanksgiving shutdown. That weekend is also traditionally low traffic with many out of town.

yes... BUT that would require skipping 135 in one direction or the other. and even then, sure, trains may turn there, but they might not be in service. We can and will close stations yet still keep the tracks in service and relay via those stations. I've had at least one D job where service terminated at 161st and we had to run light up past 167 to relay. There are times the A turns at 168, but trains have to go up to 181 because the 174th yard leads are out coupled with whatever is preventing service from running to 207th.

In this circumstance... It is possible they could run to 145, discharge, run light into 125 to turn around, return to 145 and re-enter service there.

With this homeless problem, they should eliminate relays as much possible. (And we just had the guy attacked, too!) Just because of 135th St.?  They could just have it closed, since it will be, anyway!

They didn't have a 53rd Street shutdown on Thanksgiving in 2020. They were supposed to but it got canceled and they only did the Christmas through January 4th shutdown.

That explains why the (1) has no scheduled work between 96th and 137th (express one direction), which is at least 1-2 weekends a month, as it would need to pick up the slack from the (A) and (D).

The MTA also noted more changes planned on this project in late December and January. Most likely the last weekend of December (28-29) between Christmas and New Year, to guess.

There wasn't any of those (1)Train GO's during weekends since June or July. The 137-Dyckman GO's have been set for late nights as of late.
