Unplanned Subway Service Changes

Here’s an alternative reality service change note I made up for Reintelining after the failed Deinterlining 

 

In an alternate reality where deinterlining is attempted but fails miserably due to the loss of direct one seat rides and multiple forced transfers. The customers and riders complained and criticized the changes. And after politicians backlash against this. A new leadership committee replaced the old one and decided to undo the changes.  

 

 

After the backlash and complaints about the forced transfers and the loss of one seat rides in the deinterlining of the subway system we had re interlined the routes and restore all routes to their pre deinterlining routing effective Monday.  

 

 

(2) unchanged  

 

(3) rerouted back to Harlem 148th Street and New Lots Avenue via Lenox Avenue Local  and 7th Avenue Express in Manhattan and Eastern Parkway Local 

 

(4) cut back to Crown Heights Utica Avenue via Jerome Avenue Local in the Bronx Lexington Avenue Express in Manhattan Eastern Parkway Express in Brooklyn  

 

(5) reinstated running between Eastchester Dyre Avenue and Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn College via  Dyre Avenue and White Plains Road Local in the Bronx Lexington Avenue Express in Manhattan Eastern Parkway Express and Nostrand Avenue Local in Brooklyn  

 

(S) Harlem Shuttle is discontinued  

 

The (5) will be restored to its original route running from Eastchester Dyre Avenue in the Bronx to Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn College in Brooklyn via  Dyre Avenue and White Plains Road Local in the Bronx Lexington Avenue Express and Nostrand Avenue Local in Manhattan Eastern Parkway Express in Brooklyn Weekdays only Mondays-Fridays 6:00 AM - 8:45 PM excluding holidays.  

 

Note: Limited Select Weekday Rush Hour <5>  also head down to and from Nereid Avenue 238th Street via the 2 train route in Northern White Plains Road in the Bronx ( AM Rush Hours 6:15 AM - 8:00 AM towards Manhattan in the peak way direction PM Rush Hours 5:00 PM-7:15 PM towards Nereid Avenue in the peak way direction). The <5>  will also run express between East 180th Street and 3rd Avenue 149th Street during weekday Rush hours in the peak way direction on the Southern White Plains Road line in Southern Bronx. (AM Rush Hours 6:30 AM - 9:00 AM towards Manhattan in the peak way direction PM Rush Hours 4:30 PM - 8:00 PM towards Dyre Avenue and/or Nereid Avenue in the peak way direction) Use the (2) for local service to Bypassed stations. During Daytime Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays)and Holidays the 5 train will only run between Eastchester Dyre Avenue in the Bronx to Bowling Green in Manhattan via  Dyre Avenue and White Plains Road Local in the Bronx Lexington Avenue Express in Manhattan and does not operate in Brooklyn use the (2) (4)  to service in Brooklyn. (Take (4) to Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn and transfer to the   (2) for service to Flatbush Avenue via Nostrand Avenue  line) and on late nights every day the (5) will only operate between Eastchester Dyre Avenue and East 180th Street as the Dyre Avenue Shuttle. For service to Manhattan use the (2)(4) take the (2) to 149th Street Grand Concourse for the (4) to service to Manhattan via Lexington Avenue.          

 

 

 

The (3) service to the Bronx will be eliminated.  The (3) will no longer operate in the Bronx and will no longer run to Eastchester Dyre Avenue in the Bronx Via White Plains Road and Dyre Avenue lines use to the (2)(5)  for service in the Bronx.    

 

The (3) will return to its original route  

Harlem 148th Street in Manhattan and New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn via Lenox Avenue Local  and 7th Avenue Express in Manhattan and Eastern Parkway Local in Brooklyn during daytime 6:30 AM - 12:00 AM 

 

Late Nights everyday the (3) would only operate from Harlem 148th Street and Times Square 42nd Street in Manhattan via Lenox Avenue Local  and 7th Avenue Express for service to Brooklyn use the 2/4 trains take the (2) to Franklin Avenue for the (4) the (4) is extended to New Lots Avenue during late nights.     

 

The (3) will no longer operate to Flatbush Avenue via Nostrand Avenue use the ⅖ train instead.  

 

Daytime (4) are cut back to Utica Avenue. Transfer to the (3) to continue to New Lots Avenue. Late night (4) will continue to run the same route    

Woodlawn in the Bronx to New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn via Jerome Avenue Local in the Bronx Lexington Avenue local in Manhattan and Eastern Parkway Local in Brooklyn. 

 

The Harlem Shuttle (S) Harlem 148th Street - 135th Street will be eliminated use the  (3) .  

 

The (2) route remains unchanged and will operate the same way it also did. Wakefield 241st Street- Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn College. Via White Plains Road Local in the Bronx. Lenox Avenue local and 7th Avenue express in Manhattan. Eastern Parkway Local And Nostrand Avenue Local in Brooklyn. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

(A) extended to Inwood 207th Street in Manhattan and to Lefferts Blvd and Far Rockaway in Queens Via Washington Heights Express Central Park West Express 8th Avenue Express in Manhattan. Fulton Street Express in Brooklyn. Rockaway Local in Queens. Note: runs local during late nights  

 

(C) rerouted to Washington Heights 168th Street in Manhattan extended to Euclid Avenue in Brooklyn. Via Washington Heights Local Central Park West Local 8th Avenue Local in Manhattan. Fulton Street Local in Brooklyn.  Expanded to operate outside of Weekday Rush Hours. Now will operate all time daily except late nights 12:00 AM - 6:30 AM .  

 

(E) cut back to Chambers Street World Trade Center in Manhattan. Jamaica Center in Queens- World Trade Center in Manhattan. Via Archer Avenue Local and Queens Blvd Express in Queens. Via 53rd Street local 8th Avenue local in Manhattan.  

 

(K) discontinued.  

 

(B) cut back to 145th Street in Manhattan and rerouted to Brighton Beach relaxes the N train on Brighton. Via Central Park West Local 6th Avenue Express in Manhattan. Via Brighton Express in Brooklyn. Weekend and late night service is eliminated and the (B) will only operate on Weekdays Mondays-Fridays (6:30 AM - 9:30 PM) excluding holidays.   

 

(D) rerouted to Coney Island Stillwell via West End in Brooklyn replaces the (R) on West End. Via Grand Concourse Local. Via Central Park West Express 6th Avenue Express in Manhattan. Via 4th Avenue express West End Local in Brooklyn.   

 

(F) extended to Jamaica 179th Street and is rerouted to Queens Blvd Express replaces the (K) to Jamaica 179th street. Via Hillside Local Queens Blvd Express in queens. Via 63rd street local 6th Avenue local in Manhattan. Via Culver local in Brooklyn.   

 

(M) rerouted to 53rd Street in queens. Via Queens Blvd Local in Queens replaces the  (K) on 53rd street. Via 53rd Street 6th Avenue local in manhattan. Via Jamaica local Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn.  

 

(N) rerouted to Astoria Ditmars Blvd Queens and rerouted to Sea Beach Coney Island Stillwell Avenue replaces the (R) on Astoria and replaces the (D) on Sea Beach . Via Astoria Local in queens. Via Broadway Express in Manhattan. Via 4th Avenue Express Sea Beach Local in Brooklyn. Expanded from its daytime weekday only hours to operating at all times 24/7 everyday    

 

(Q) unchanged and will continue to operate from 96th Street 2nd Avenue in Manhattan to Coney Island Stillwell Avenue. Via 2nd Avenue local and Broadway Express in Manhattan. Via Brighton Local in Brooklyn .  

 

(R) rerouted to Forest Hills 71st Avenue Queens and rerouted to Bay Ridge 95th Street Brooklyn. Replaces the (F) local service in Queens Blvd. Replace the  (B) to Bay Ridge 95th Street. Via Queens Blvd Local in Queens. Via Broadway Local In Manhattan. Via 4th Avenue Local  

 

(W) is reinstated to run from Astoria Ditmars Blvd in Queens to Whitehall Street South Ferry in Manhattan. Via Astoria Local in Queens. Via Broadway Local In Manhattan. Operates weekdays only 6:30 AM - 9:30 PM Mondays-Fridays excluding holidays  

 

 

 

 

(A) is extended back to Inwood 207th Street in Manhattan and to Lefferts Blvd and Far Rockaway in Queens Via Washington Heights Express Central Park West Express 8th Avenue Express. The(A) during daytime hours will now run express in Manhattan and Brooklyn between Washington Heights 168th Street and Euclid Avenue. Replaces the (B) to Inwood. Replaces the (E) route in Brooklyn Fulton Street line and Queens on the rockaways line. Note: Limited Select Rush Hour   (A) also head down to Rockway Park Beach 116th Street. Use the Rockaway Shuttle Broad Chanel - Rockaway Beach for service all other times. The (A) runs fully local during late nights.    

 

 

 

(C) is rerouted to Washington Heights 168th Street in Mantand extended to Euclid Avenue in Brooklyn. The C train replaces the A train on the local stations between 168th street - 145th street. Replaces the K train route in Brooklyn. Via Washington Heights Local Central Park West Local 8th Avenue Local in Manhattan. Fulton Street Local in Brooklyn. The (C) service to the Bronx is eliminated. The (C) will no longer operate to Bedford Park Blvd via Grand Concourse local for service to the Bronx via Grand Concourse using the (B) (D) . The  (C) is Expanded to operate outside of Weekday Rush Hours. Now it will operate all time daily except late nights 12:00 AM - 6:30 AM. Use the(A) for late night service. 

 

(E) cut back to Chambers Street World Trade Center in Manhattan. Jamaica Center in Queens- World Trade Center in Manhattan. Via Archer Avenue Local and Queens Blvd Express in Queens. Via 53rd Street local 8th Avenue local in Manhattan. The (E) service in Brooklyn and in the rockaways of Queens is eliminated. The E train will no longer operate to Far Rockaway or Rockway Beach 116th Street via Fulton Street or the Rockways. Use the   (A)(C) for service to Brooklyn and the rockaways. 

Note the (E)  runs fully local during late nights. 

 

 

The K train is eliminated entirely. Use the A C E F M R Trains

 

(B) cut back to 145th Street in Manhattan and rerouted to Brighton Beach replaces the (N) on Brighton. Via Central Park West Local 6th Avenue Express in Manhattan. Via Brighton Express in Brooklyn. The  (B) will no longer operate to Inwood 207th Street via Washington heights use the A C  trains for service to Inwood The B train no longer operates to Bay Ridge 95th Street via 4th Avenue use the D/N/R trains. Weekend and late night service is eliminated and the B train will only operate on Weekdays Mondays-Fridays (6:30 AM - 9:30 PM) excluding holidays. 

Note: The B train is extended to run to Bedford Park Blvd in the Bronx via the grand concourse line during Rush Hours 6:30 AM-9:30 AM and 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The B train does not operate on weekends or late nights uss the A/C/D/Q trains

 

(D).   rerouted to Coney Island Stillwell via West End in Brooklyn replaces the R train on West End. Via Grand Concourse Local. Via Central Park West Express 6th Avenue Express in Manhattan. Via 4th Avenue express West End Local in Brooklyn. The D train will no longer operate via Sea Beach to Coney Island use the N train. 

Note: The D train operates expres in the Bronx in the peak way direction from Fordham Road to 145th Street during Rush Hours 6:30 AM-9:30 AM to manhattan and 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM to Norwood 205th Street in the Bronx use the B train for local service to bypassed stations. The D train runs fully local in Brooklyn during late nights.  

 

 

 

F train extended to Jamaica 179th Street and is rerouted to Queens Blvd Express replaces the K train to Jamaica 179th street. Via Hillside Local Queens Blvd Express in queens. Via 63rd street local 6th Avenue local in Manhattan. Via Culver local in Brooklyn. The F train will no longer run local in Queens use the M/R trains for local service. 

 

M train rerouted to 53rd Street in queens. Via Queens Blvd Local in Queens replaces the K train on 53rd street. Via 53rd Street 6th Avenue local in manhattan. Via Jamaica local Myrtle Avenue Local in Brooklyn. The M train will no longer operate via 63rd Street use the F train. Note: Evenings, Daytime Hoildays and Daytime Weekends Saturdays and Sundays 6:30 AM-11:30 PM The M train only operates between Delancey Street Essex Street in Manhattan to Metropolitan Avenue Middle Village in Queens. And Late Nights everyday daily 11:30 PM-6:30 AM The M train only operates as a shuttle Myrtle Avenue Broadway in Brooklyn and  Metropolitan Avenue Middle Village in Queens. Use the E/F/J/R trains for full service 

 

N train rerouted to Astoria Ditmars Blvd Queens and rerouted to Sea Beach Coney Island Stillwell Avenue replaces the R train on Astoria and replaces the D train on Sea Beach . Via Astoria Local in queens. Via Broadway Express in Manhattan. Via 4th Avenue Express Sea Beach Local in Brooklyn. The N train will no longer operate to 96th street 2nd avenue via 2nd avenue use the Q train the N train no longer operates to Brighton Beach via Brighton line use the B/Q trains. Expanded from its daytime weekday only hours to operating at all times 24/7 everyday. Note the N train operates in lower manhattan during late nights. The N train runs local in manhattan during weekends. The N train runs fully local during late nights.  

 

 

 

Q train unchanged and will continue to operate from 96th Street 2nd Avenue in Manhattan to Coney Island Stillwell Avenue. Via 2nd Avenue local and Broadway Express in Manhattan. Via Brighton Local in Brooklyn . The Q train runs fully local during late nights.

Operate to Whitehall Street South Ferry use the E/N train for full service. 

 

W train is reinstated to run from Astoria Ditmars Blvd in Queens to Whitehall Street South Ferry in Manhattan. Via Astoria Local in Queens. Via Broadway Local In Manhattan. Operates weekdays only 6:30 AM - 9:30 PM Mondays-Fridays excluding holidays. The W train does not operate on weekends or late nights use the N/R train

There is an AC power failure that has basically brought chaos to the A,B,C,D,E,F,J and M.

no J in Manhattan. M service from Met as far as Myrtle Ave.

 

M from Forest Hills to World Trade Center, which, fun fact, is NOT one of the terminals for M service in the computer…

Okay, so… I left a little late from 71st, little after 5PM

my R leader somehow overshot 67th Avenue a little, so, delay there. Chugging along otherwise until we leave  Lexington 53rd. Were running a little slower than normal, something is up, it’s one of those things you learn to feel.

 

get to 5th and the order comes down. We’re going via 8th Avenue to the World Trade Center.

and you would be amazed how many people don’t seem to know where that is…

it was slow going down, but ironically we left WTC going back north at our normal interval out of metro..

That amazes me that many people would not know where the World Trade Center is.  That would be expected to be one of the FIRST things people would figure out.

Going by trends years in the making, we’re definitely past the crossover point where amazement, surprise, or shock should be expressed at a lack of knowledge.

Once the new norm becomes entrenched, you can bet that any exhibition of intelligence makes you a president.

I had a motor instructor 40 years ago say that Americans were getting less intelligent as years passed. He was a former Marine Corp drill instructor and witnessed it firsthand. According to him it didn't matter where you were from or your skin color. It was contagious and spreading rapidly across the country in his opinion. Years ago someone posted about a bottleneck on the IRT at Nostrand junction. I kind of glossed over it at the time but one of my classmates reminded me about what we were taught about that location in particular. Some of my fellow posters are aware of what a timetable is and the adherence to it is what determines train movement throughout the system. My classmate and a few others from that era recall the motor instructor's exact analogy.  In its most simplistic form it's a flight line. Plain and simple. Think LGA, JFK, EWR, CLT, BWI, MCO. If you've ever traveled to/from these airports the flight lines are visible if one pays attention. That's why the IRT timetable was set up back then. (1) trains to 137th St, , Dyckman, or the full route to VC Park. Same thing for the (6) to Parkchester or Pelham Bay Park. The LIRR entering or leaving Jamaica is also a great location to learn about train movements. What some fail to comprehend is if you speed these trains willy nilly across a place like the aforementioned junction you are guaranteed create gaps to certain locations and bottlenecks at the farthest terminals. The other drawback to speeding up service is if you add extra trains without thinking it through additional (unneeded) trains and extra mileage for what?.  I remember when the R62 cars were introduced on the (4) line. Guys were running 4-6 minutes to the good from Woodlawn to 149th and the Concourse. The RTO scheduling department cut jobs and added trips to the remaining ones. My motor instructor just laughed and said his point was proven. That's when he and my fellow classmates decided to name many posters of a decade or more " little Lionels ". Many of them left the forums back then. Just my recollection of a bygone era. Carry on.
