Wallyhorse Posted June 3, 2017 Share #4452 Posted June 3, 2017 As I'm looking at this thread, this happens: Edit: Any 's to Astoria? How bad does it look now not to have 72nd built with three tracks as originally intended?
N6 Limited Posted June 4, 2017 Share #4453 Posted June 4, 2017 How bad does it look now not to have 72nd built with three tracks as originally intended? They had no Broadway service to 63rd street so I'm not sure it would have made a difference in this case.
MysteriousBtrain Posted June 4, 2017 Share #4454 Posted June 4, 2017 (edited) They had no Broadway service to 63rd street so I'm not sure it would have made a difference in this case.72nd Street was supposed to be a short-turn terminal anyways. It should have been built that way to begin with because of the short-turn s and rerouted s and s, let alone the few incidents already on 2 Av. But they did have crossovers at 72nd Street for emergencies like this. Perhaps the outage rendered the entire line useless. Around the Horn Posted June 5, 2017 Share #4455 Posted June 5, 2017 Yeah, when you have a loss of power like this, the entire section from 63rd to 96th is useless.

Wallyhorse Posted June 6, 2017 Share #4459 Posted June 6, 2017 The funny thing is that trains actually went all the way to Broad Street this afternoon. It would make much more sense for the to go to 96th and 2nd in that scenario.
Around the Horn Posted June 6, 2017 Share #4460 Posted June 6, 2017 It would make much more sense for the to go to 96th and 2nd in that scenario. If you consider that a good amount of trains were stuck in Queens, there may not have been enough trains to run the Brooklyn section of the line up to 96 Street.
Lance Posted June 7, 2017 Share #4461 Posted June 7, 2017 I think the idea was to get some trains away from the logjam along 6th Avenue as well. With trains already delayed due to the incident at 36 Street, you don't want to add to the situation by utilizing the slow switches at Lexington Av-63 St.
sovetskii52 Posted June 8, 2017 Share #4462 Posted June 8, 2017 What's going on in our subway? There has been a rail condition at 57th Street / 6th Avenue and 34th Street / Herald Square all day. All the signal problems, mechanical problems, and rail conditions have gone out of hand the last few weeks.
CenSin Posted June 8, 2017 Share #4463 Posted June 8, 2017 72nd Street was supposed to be a short-turn terminal anyways. It should have been built that way to begin with because of the short-turn s and rerouted s and s, let alone the few incidents already on 2 Av. But they did have crossovers at 72nd Street for emergencies like this. Perhaps the outage rendered the entire line useless. If trains ever had to be rerouted due to an emergency after the completion of phase 2, they’re going to have to run all the way up to 125 Street. Of course, it depends on the specific scenario, but with the cheapening and corner-cutting, phase 2-SAS looks to be a much less attractive option for emergency reroutes. 96 Street is still a reasonable terminal for short-turns. For much of the future subway, the only option for emergencies is simply complete termination of services.

nathan9 Posted June 10, 2017 Share #4465 Posted June 10, 2017 Sometimes the MTA says the is running express, such as between Smith-9th and Church Av. Does this mean that trains will only stop at 7th Av which I believe is on the express track?

Sick on the tracks or off the tracks? It seems this sickness has infected the express tracks too. Actually, it seems the trains were running local towards Jamaica yesterday as they are today. Lack of redundancy cuts off service in the smallest of incidents. Edited June 11, 2017 by CenSin
