LegoBrickBreaker101 Posted April 12, 2017 Share #4277 Posted April 12, 2017 A fatal 12-9 at Brook Avenue suspended trains from 125th Street to Hunts Point Avenue, with some trains going to 149th Street - GC and terminating there, leading to heavy delays on northbound , , and service. There were also signal problems at 14th Street - Union Square on the southbound line which also led to delays southbound. Overall, not a fun commute home... Did get to see three trains on the downtown local and express, and uptown express tracks at 23rd Street, so that was a little fun...
Daniel The Cool Posted April 12, 2017 Share #4278 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) They've been having alot of switching problems there lately. Due to switch problems at 34 St-Herald Sq, the following service changes are in effect: There is no service between 168 St and Euclid Av in both directions. Southbound and trains are running on the line from 59 St-Columbus Circle to W 4 St-Washington Sq then on the line to Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Some southbound trains are running on the line from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to Court Sq then on the line to Bergen St. Some southbound trains are running on the line from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to W 4 St-Washington Sq. 71 Av-bound trains are running on the line from Delancey St-Essex St to Chambers St and terminate. There is no Metropolitan Av-bound service from Forest Hills-71 Av. Allow additional travel time. Also the Broadway Line is messed up Service Change Posted: 04/11/2017 8:06PM Due to switch problems at 34 St-Herald Sq, the following service changes are in effect: Southbound trains are running local from 57 St-7 Av to Canal St. Some southbound trains are running on the line from 36 St (Qns) to W 4 St-Washington Sq then running on the line to DeKalb Av. Expect delays to southbound , , and train service. Allow additional travel time. What are the odds that a switch malfunction would happen at the same station on two different levels. The c/o I had didn't know how to operate the train. He closed the doors without saying stand clear and he kept on opening and closing the doors even though the train did not leave for 30+ min.
Lawrence St Posted April 12, 2017 Share #4282 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) First BIE on Lex that resulted in half of the entire IRT transportation system being on grid lock, and now today a 12-9? Anyone know what happened ? How can service be affected at both the 8th and 6th avenue lines ? I don't know how this could have anything to do with 34th St, but at the same time, they were sending downtown trains via 8th Ave and having them terminate at Jay St-Metrotech. This caused a huge logjam in the Cranberry Tunnel that I was stuck in the middle of. Why they didn't just have the 's turnaround at WTC is beyond me. Took me an extra hour to get home is all I know... Edited April 12, 2017 by TeeCoZee

If so, did the R160's have a to 96th Street program? RestrictOnTheHanger Posted April 17, 2017 Share #4291 Posted April 17, 2017 That Jay St incident according to the NYCTA twitter was a misroute. They had to back the train up to Jay St and discharge it.
Lawrence St Posted April 17, 2017 Share #4292 Posted April 17, 2017 I thought reversing a train wasn't allowed if it was in service, unless it was a disabled train.
Around the Horn Posted April 17, 2017 Share #4293 Posted April 17, 2017 I thought reversing a train wasn't allowed if it was in service, unless it was a disabled train. You can receive permission from the dispatcher. but you can't just unilaterally reverse a train on your own.
N6 Limited Posted April 17, 2017 Share #4294 Posted April 17, 2017 how do they "reverse" a train? is it run in reverse or does the T/O simply go to the other end and move the train, how does that affect signaling, etc?

The T/O would go to the other end and operate in that direction. "Backing up" a train is a severe no-no.

N6 Limited Posted April 18, 2017 Share #4298 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) Returned to the station to be rerouted? Sounds like a Northbound Train, because the switch is north of the station. Don't they put those red lights to prevent trains from going down the wrong track during track work? Probably dumped at Hoyt then reversed at Lafayette Av.
