78 via Stew Leonards Posted October 27, 2015 Share #676 Posted October 27, 2015 Question for any of you: When will the next Metro North employment exam come out?
Truckie Posted October 27, 2015 Share #677 Posted October 27, 2015 Every craft has its own exam. Go to mta.info and navigate through the links to the employment page. You will then see the positions applications are being accepted.
R10 2952 Posted November 6, 2015 Share #678 Posted November 6, 2015 I've been reminiscing... What did the Metro-North use before the Genesis locomotives? F9s and 10s I guess?

Truckie Posted November 11, 2015 Share #681 Posted November 11, 2015 Is Devon Transfer no longer a station after Nov. 16? All done, it was only temporary going into it.
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted November 11, 2015 Share #682 Posted November 11, 2015 All done, it was only temporary going into it.You know with the development in the South Bronx Metro-North should consider hourly service on the Harlem Line.
JubaionBx12+SBS Posted November 15, 2015 Share #683 Posted November 15, 2015 On the MNRR timetables there are trains that have letters (either H,D or R) before the time at certain stops? What do these letters mean?
Truckie Posted November 15, 2015 Share #684 Posted November 15, 2015 On the MNRR timetables there are trains that have letters (either H,D or R) before the time at certain stops? What do these letters mean? They are outlined in the reference notes on the timetable. H - Primarily to discharge passengers. Train may depart up to 5 minutes earlier than the time shown. D - Stops only to discharge passengers. R - Stops only to receive passengers.
paulrivera Posted December 2, 2015 Share #685 Posted December 2, 2015 I think I saw an M2 doing a midday run today; it was heading northbound approaching Harlem at about 12:45 which fits the bill according to the schedule. Anyone know how much longer they're going to hang on to them? I hear they're basically used as spares now...
N6 Limited Posted December 8, 2015 Share #686 Posted December 8, 2015 There appears to have been a Central Nassau train line between where the current Circus Train runs by NCC and the Ronkonkoma Branch between Bethpage Parkway and Merrits Road, what happened to that line?
Joel Up Front Posted December 9, 2015 Share #687 Posted December 9, 2015 The old Central Branch? Those tracks were already overgrown in the worst of the Great Depression. Yes, overgrown.
N6 Limited Posted December 9, 2015 Share #688 Posted December 9, 2015 Could you imagine if Levittown had a station?
Joel Up Front Posted December 9, 2015 Share #689 Posted December 9, 2015 William Levitt apparently didn't want any sort of rail running through his town. Joke's on him, residents of his glorious town have to drive almost a mile and a half away to the Main Line, which is already crowded, or the parking-sparse South Shore just to get to the LIRR. The LIRR maintains a facility right across Commercial Avenue from where the MTA decided to build Mitchel Field depot.
paulrivera Posted December 24, 2015 Share #690 Posted December 24, 2015 (edited) Shout out to Metro-North for putting out a train that would intermittently go BIE while we were stopped this morning (on an M8 no less). The train went BIE at Stamford, then Fairfield, then by the yard in Bridgeport, costing us at least 3 minutes each time. Got to NHV over 10 minutes late on the very first train of the day. Then again, my connection was 15 minutes late too so I guess things sorted themselves out in the end... Via Garibaldi 8 Posted January 13, 2016 Share #692 Posted January 13, 2016 I was sitting on the Metro-North train last night at Grand Central heading home and a really foul odor came out of nowhere. Smelled like raw sewage or something, but was rather overpowering. Is that the norm and if so what does it come from?

When I went to Tarrytown, I was sitting by the window of one of these cars when the overpowering stench of urine came out of nowhere. I figured either the guy behind me had pissed himself or something else had leaked, but man it was the worst smell.

When I went to Tarrytown, I was sitting by the window of one of these cars when the overpowering stench of urine came out of nowhere. I figured either the guy behind me had pissed himself or something else had leaked, but man it was the worst smell. I was sitting on one of the newer trains that they use on the Hudson Line. The train was in the station with the doors open since it wasn't due to depart yet, and the smell was quite noticeable. It was clear that it was coming from somewhere within the station itself and not the train.
Truckie Posted January 13, 2016 Share #695 Posted January 13, 2016 Just south of Ludlow is a sewage treatment plant. Could have been from there.

Union Tpke Posted January 21, 2016 Share #698 Posted January 21, 2016 I was taking a backwards RFW video on an M3 on the PT Wash Branch, when a conductor told me to stop. I complied and told him that the rules permitted it and he said that he knew and that he thought that it looked suspicious. When will this end!

JubaionBx12+SBS Posted January 24, 2016 Share #700 Posted January 24, 2016 I used the Metro North from GCT-Fordham yesterday afternoon and it was wonderful. Got on the 5:40 Harlem Line departure and made it to Fordham in 20 minutes flat with more comfort on the train then the or I would otherwise be using. Well worth the additional $8.75 for a peak ticket. Because of that price I won't be doing this that much but given that i'm trying to branch out and find other commute options it's a good one to have in my back pocket.
