Amtrak7 Posted November 27, 2012 Share #101 Posted November 27, 2012 There'd better be a good reason as to why the 5:29 PM train from Hicksville to Penn has been late every day since last Monday. From what I've seen, the 5:24 from Ronkonkoma is the one that gets the passengers and even when they were able to get the schedules back to normal (to the extent that the LIRR can) the trains were fine. Then last Monday it ends up 14 minutes late, then Tuesday 11 minutes late... I noticed it had 12 cars. Why would a train that doesn't even get SRO end up with two extra cars? Its all a result of the Sandy cancel/combo plan. 1715 probably turns from an train that took on a combined load and thus was lengthened. As for the lateness, that train is chronically late, and any snarl in the rush hour tends to mess it up big time.
Vistausss Posted December 3, 2012 Share #102 Posted December 3, 2012 Nice to see the MNRR M3-A still in operation!
Truckie Posted December 4, 2012 Share #103 Posted December 4, 2012 Nice to see the MNRR M3-A still in operation! There's still a bunch running around out there.
Vistausss Posted December 4, 2012 Share #104 Posted December 4, 2012 I know, but it's nice to see 'em because most people only go for the M7-A and M8.
Snowblock Posted December 4, 2012 Share #105 Posted December 4, 2012 MNRR doesn't run the 3s on weekends. They've got plenty of life left so you'll keep on seeing them during the week.
Vistausss Posted December 4, 2012 Share #106 Posted December 4, 2012 They only run the 3s on weekends when there is extra service needed. But like I said: most people are only going for the M7A and M8 and since I don't live in NYC/LI (unfortanetly) I don't see 'em every day unless someone occasianely shots 'em.
Joel Up Front Posted December 6, 2012 Share #107 Posted December 6, 2012 At Hicksville this afternoon there was this silver-and-blue train on track 1. It had "Engineering Safety Car" on the sides... but I only noticed it just as I was getting on the N20 for school.
CDTA Posted January 1, 2013 Share #108 Posted January 1, 2013 Half of M8 #9812's exterior LCD is half dead. Oh, and I got an M3A two trips in a row, without even trying! So that was a pleasant surprise.
Vistausss Posted January 1, 2013 Share #109 Posted January 1, 2013 Half dead? For such a new thing? Wonder where PinePower is at because that sniffs like PinePower's "poor maintenance" comment.
Bracamonte Posted January 1, 2013 Share #110 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) So when are the best times to catch an M3a in MNRR? I barely see them on the hudson. The only times I see M3a's is when they're idling in Grand Central or out of service. Edited January 1, 2013 by Bracamonte
CDTA Posted January 1, 2013 Share #111 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) The Harlem Line locals, during peak, or just after/before peak. Edited January 1, 2013 by CDTA
Truckie Posted January 5, 2013 Share #112 Posted January 5, 2013 So when are the best times to catch an M3a in MNRR? I barely see them on the hudson. The only times I see M3a's is when they're idling in Grand Central or out of service. You will see them on the Hudson occasionally on the Harmon runs. As CDTA they are more common on the Harlem line locals but they do run to Southeast also.
Bracamonte Posted January 5, 2013 Share #113 Posted January 5, 2013 The one thing I miss about the M3a's is their original interiors. There is not one car that has it anymore.

There is not one car that has it anymore. only at rush hour you will see them. all other times out with the old in with the new . I will say that the MTA could benefit from self propelled DMUs.
Bracamonte Posted January 11, 2013 Share #115 Posted January 11, 2013 So it looks like the LIRR's M3s are the only ones with the old interiors. BTW, I finally was able to catch an M3a! It was the 2:25pm Harlem Line local to North White Plains.
Orion VII 4 Life Posted February 2, 2013 Share #116 Posted February 2, 2013 Just got stopped by a MTA K9 cop at Lynbrook for taking pics, brought out the rules and he sent me on my way.
LIRR 154 Posted February 2, 2013 Share #117 Posted February 2, 2013 only at rush hour you will see them. all other times out with the old in with the new . I will say that the MTA could benefit from self propelled DMUs. Maybe ,maybe not. LIRR already has a history of using DMUs and it got ugly.

Vistausss Posted February 7, 2013 Share #119 Posted February 7, 2013 The only one I know who makes good DMUs is Stadler but other than a few light rail operators in the USA I don't think anyone wants European rail cars.
