Queens Division Bus Proposals/Ideas

Q43LTD

Recommended Posts

In addition to the above, I'd like to make a (former) proposal for the Q67 and the Q39 (the original idea was from B35, I just added a couple of things/deleted a couple of things after viewing the idea).

https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zPbYEOS-H5O4.k6CsRRe0eFYo&authuser=0&hl=en

This consist of the Q67 bypassing the Industrial section of Maspeth (and having the Q39 being rerouted there). The Q67 would run non-stop from 48 Street to Maurice Avenue. On all other sections, the Q67 would run as it currently, with the exception of buses being rerouted to go straight on Jackson Avenue (it will still not miss any connections at all to any buses or trains). It would make it easier in fact, to connect to these trains (especially the (7)).

However, the first 3 trips on Weekdays on the current Q67 schedule will run as they do (Running via Industrial Maspeth), but will still follow the revised Q67 path. All other trips would run the new routing pattern.

The Q67 would be extended to Glendale (Cooper Avenue/ 73 Place). This would help alleviate riders from the Q55, which gets very full at times, and to see if any new riders wishing to go to Manhattan would use the bus. However, this will account for a increase in headways (from every 12 to every 15 minutes) during rush hours. All other times, the headway would remain similar.

The Q39 would have a second branch running along 55 Avenue in industrial Maspeth. This second branch would run daily as follows:

From LIC:

Weekdays: 5:15 AM- 11:15 PM.  Every other bus would operate via 55 Avenue (Headways would be every 16 minutes AM Rush, 40 minutes middays, and 15 PM rush, and every 60 minutes evenings).

Saturdays: 7:15 AM- 11:15 PM (Headways would be every 60 minutes for the 55 Ave branch, 20-40 for the Laurel Hill branch).

Sundays: 9:15 AM- 11:15 PM (Early morning headways would be 30 minutes for the Laurel Hill branch, 60 all other times)

From Ridgewood:

Weekdays: 5:40 AM to 11:00 PM (Headways would be every 16 minutes AM Rush, 40 minutes middays, and 15 PM rush, and every 60 minutes evenings).

Saturdays: 7:00 AM- 11:00 PM (Headways would be every 60 minutes for the 55 Ave branch, 20-40 for the Laurel Hill branch).

Sundays: 7:00 AM- 11:00 PM (Headways would be every 60 minutes for each branch, with several exceptions in the morning and night).

The current 47 St stop on the Q67 and B24 would be placed across the street from where it currently is.

A reduction of stops on the Q3 and better headways or a limited bus...

Its the longest route in terms of distance out of Jamaica Depot and provides service to JFK Airport from most of the neighborhoods within Jamaica, Queens. It also connects to 3 LIRR Stations and the (F) train.

Another idea is to have some local trips short turn at 179th St Station (F) and Rockaway Bl

Why not streamline it by having it use baisly to JFK. then have another route cover farmers Blvd south of linden from the airport or extension of a very short route. What kills the Q3 is a combination of poor headways due to MTA logic of surrounding routes and the distance is stupid long. It's routing in JFK can be tweaked to speed up transfers from B15 Q10 ect. Terminal 5 however can stand to lose one of the routes there.

The Q3 can't use Baisley Blvd to get to JFK because the street ends on North Conduit Avenue with no overpass for veichles to cross the Belt Parkway, and a good portion of Baisley is already served by the 85 between Bedell and Merrick. After Guy R. Brewer, there's nothing on Baisely that would attract potential customers, not even a connection to the Q6 at Rockaway Blvd.

All 3 connect to train stations and are very important in their respective neighborhoods...

It's called 150th street and rockaway Blvd from baisley to JFK. Q85 serves a very small portion inaccurate.  Plus a connection to Q6 would still be possible at rockaway Blvd and baisley. Baisley is faster and more direct towards JFK if you been through SE queens you would know that. Besides I do agree with your LTD idea however. Due to reliability I would swap the southern part of farmers Blvd to another line. Hint use of airtrain lefferts as a transfer point to cut travel times for many routes. I can detail it in a proposal that includes the JFK area I call it JFK hub network. It would streamline the Q3 make B84 more useful and extend the Q40&9 to JFK one to Airtrain lefferts other via federal circle but maybe terminated at terminal 5 not fully decided yet. But it would cut travel times between Brooklyn and SE queens and time to JFK overall(to a degree) considering how frequently the airtrain runs and the fact it links to all terminals.

the Queens bound QM2 and QM20 need to use the LIE eastbound to the Whitestone Expwy north from now on

the Queens bound QM3 should use the LIE to the BQE to Northern Blvd

1. It doesn't make any difference. The time on Northern between the bridge and Whitestone isn't any different compared to the time on the LIE, this includes traffic.

2. That makes no sense at all.

We have gone over why the Q9 and Q40 are not going to be extended to JFK. You sure love to make proposals that will make transportation more difficult. Many seem to think that the Q3 is such a horrible route. The only reason why its like that is because takss a indirect route to JFK. That on top of its headways make that route seem long and unreliable.

For many years I've always believed that the Q6 should serve the terminals because it has LTD service it's routing is more direct and lastly it has major connections such as the LIRR the (E)(J)(Z) and routes traveling from many different areas. In my I believe it will make the Q6 a more popular route and maybe it could need articulated buses. The only probably that needs to be fixed is the bunching.

Q19: Need to have 24-hour service to provide service to discontinued M60 SBS stops at 43rd-Sound Sts, 46th St, 49th St, 74th Street.

Q29 and Q49 should merged.

Southbound: Via 75th St, turn right at Roosevelt Av, turn left at Broadway, turn left at 75th St, turn right at Roosevelt Av, regular Q29 route.

Northbound: Via 83rd St, turn left at Roosevelt Av, follow Q49 route through Victor Moore Bus Terminal to East Elmhurst.

Q72: Sundays need to run every 15 minutes instead of 30 minutes.

Q19: That would benefit a small amount of people (especially the latter stop).

Q29/Q49: No, that would be too unreliable.

Q72: I don't think 15 is needed, 30 is fine, just that it needs to run relaible, that's all.

I would only extend the Q19 to run until 10 PM, and make the Q49 run 24/7 (only needs two round-trips to do so).

About Q37 does it get good use south of the casino due to hotels there?

It's to make connections with Brooklyn buses easier I didn't say extension to terminal 5. But to points that make connections easier from Brooklyn that doesn't make transportation more difficult you must be high to even think that good day.

Most of these proposals look familiar, so I'm not going to comment on most of them. The Q10A isn't going to comeback now that the AirTrain to JFK exists and the Q10 has Limited Stop Service. I don't think that tourists and locals would want to put up with traffic on Van Wyck between Belt Parkway and Atlantic-Hilside Avenue exits.

Whatever is in red is feasibly not possible or just redudant or unecassery.

What's with making all the artics high floor?

QM3 Needs more buses, not all day service, that's too much.

The QM15, I agree completely

QM24: Way too much service being given in both directions

Here's an idea Runtime.

To Manhattan: 5 AM- 5 PM

From Manhattan: 11 AM- 10 PM.

More than half of these proposals are a clear cut case of not knowing the neighborhoods and how service actually is.

As for the Q44.....that is completely irrelevant, illogical and is only bias.

How about no to all? What's your reason for these proposals? What's your hatred towards low floor buses? What are you gonna do when the whole local bus fleet is 100% low floor?
