P3F Posted January 2, 2015 Share #4676 Posted January 2, 2015 There is a explosion in Jay Street-MetroTech and the , , , and trains are affected. Service needs to be restored and it is during PM rush hour. What would you do? My way would do this: 1. service from Forest Hills-71 Avenue to Bedford-Nostrand Avenues. 2. trains run only from Utica Avenue to Lefferts Blvd or Far Rockaway. 3. service runs via the from 207 Street to World Trade Center via line. 4. runs from Avenue X to Jamacia- 179 Street via the . 1. Fine 2. Run the in Manhattan too, since it's PM rush. Have it end at Chambers. 3. Fine 4. Since can't run, the can't run in that part either. This is invalid. I would replace #4 with this: No Service Between 2nd Av and Bergen Street Also, run shuttlebuses everywhere that there is no service. Next: A suspicious-looking dude leaves a box at West 4th Street. Then, he boards an train and gets off at 14th Street, leaving another box there. The dude leaves the system, but these areas are unsafe to have people in: -6th Avenue Line between 14th Street and West 4th Street -8th Avenue Line at West 4th Street. -PATH at 14th Street. Reroute and PATH. This is during PM Rush.

Wallyhorse Posted January 3, 2015 Share #4679 Posted January 3, 2015 There is a explosion in Jay Street-MetroTech and the A, C, F, and G trains are affected. Service needs to be restored and it is during PM rush hour. What would you do? I'm assuming there would be a multi-day re-route necessitated by this and the (which ALSO stops there and where there is a transfer) IS ALSO affected by this, however, the is NOT affected by this AND the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Station can be used: runs as follows: 207th Street-Chambers Street platform with a single-track shuttle between Chambers and Fulton Street. Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street and Far Rockaway OR Rockaway Park Important Notes: Trains use the as-present not-normally used "local" track platforms at Hoyt-Schermerhorn, requiring a walk over to the regular platform for Crosstown trains. The Transit Museum is temporarily closed during this period and one track at the TM (Court Street) is cleared out so trains can use the switches leading in to change tracks and terminate. runs via the and then between West 4th Street and the Broadway Junction station, where it terminates. This train runs 24/7 during this period and passengers who normally use the are advised to use this train and switch to the for service between there and EITHER Hoyt-Schermerhorn or poitnts east. Rockaway Park is temporarily extended and runs at all times to/from Broadway Junction. Trains run express between Broadway Junction and Euclid Avenue. temporarily is reduced to a shuttle between Metropolitan and Myrtle Avenues at all times and is replaced by the along the Broadway-Brooklyn line that after West 4th operates along its normal Manhattan route via 8th Avenue (a same platform transfer can be made at Broadway-Lafayette in Manhattan for 6th Avenue service from the , which stops in place of the there). The and lines temporarily both operate out of 179th Street in the following manner: trains operate as a full-route express in Queens and run to East Broadway in Manhattan (select trains terminate at Delancey Street) A single-track shuttle operates between East Broadway in Manhattan and York Street in Brooklyn trains operate as a full-route local in Queens from 179th Street and are extended to Coney Island to replace the in Brooklyn. Various shuttle buses operate in Brooklyn with connection in the area of the Atlantic terminal between the various shuttles (special block transfers are issued for this purpose). runs as a local between 59th Street and Pacific Street in Brooklyn, also stopping at DeKalb Avenue at all times before resuming regular route (including overnights). runs as follows: Main route at all times (24/7): Whitehall Street in Manhattan to 179th Street in Queens (extended there and local all the way). Single-track shuttles between Whitehall Street in Manhattan and Court Street in Brooklyn (Montauge tunnel is NOT affected by this) Shuttle between 36th Street and 95th Street-Bay Ridge in Brooklyn.

CenSin Posted January 4, 2015 Share #4688 Posted January 4, 2015 Sorry, I was looking at this map while making the scenario, and it's not fully to scale. But even using this map, one can note the following: Prince Street is just south of the intersection. Even if the MTA were daring enough to pull trains up so close to a bombed tunnel, the FBI would swarming the area closing off the entire area. The length of track west of Broadway–Lafayette Street cannot even hold one train to turn back to Grand Street. (And in reality, all of these switches are to the left of the intersection, making them inaccessible anyway.) Getting back to the scenario, one should probably assume that the , , and would also be affected, being physically connected to the station complex that was bombed.

It chose all of the most vital points to screw with (especially those places with switches), but it missed all of the river tunnels, nearly the entirety of Brooklyn, and the Rockaways which are both surrounded by water on three sides. A word on hurricanes: they generally start from the tropics (which is south of New York City), and get weaker as they go over land and towards the arctic. Wallyhorse Posted January 4, 2015 Share #4693 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Fulton Street Transit Center has collapsed on to it self due to a sink hole that happened near by. The stations are impassable. This would take considerable time to fix, so we are looking at some major long-term fixes here and we would be looking at three and even four lines having to share tracks at times and just be dealing with the residual delays in order to have as much service as possible: The operates as such in Manhattan ONLY between 207th Street and Chambers Street (express platform). The operates from 168th Street in Manhattan to West 4th and then via the and then to Broadway Junction on the Broadway-Brooklyn line. Passengers for the Fulton line are encouraged to use this route OR the Broadway lines if at all possible. Service in Brooklyn and Queens on the Fulton Street and Lefferts/Rockaway lines are as follows, with all such service starting at High Street going eastbound/southbound from there: The Rockaway branch is temporarily re-designated and runs to Far Rockaway OR Rockaway Park (late nights, operates to both via the former round-robin shuttle route). This route is express in Brooklyn The Lefferts branch is temporarily re-designated and runs to Lefferts Bouelvard at all times (including overnights) as a local in Brooklyn. The on the Broadway Line is re-routed to run via the tunnel between Canal Street in Manhattan and Pacific Street in Brooklyn at all times in order to help the with people using the line to transfer to Fulton line service at Jay Street-Metrotech as this is the only line to Brooklyn from lower Manhattan unaffected. There is no Bridge service on the Broadway line during this time as a result. terminates at Chambers Street. There is no skip-stop as the temporarily becomes its own line that operates from the Broad Street station at all times to 9th Avenue in Brooklyn via Montauge, operating as a 4th Avenue local during this time. begins at 241st Street OR Dyre Avenue (replacing the , which is fully suspended in The Bronx in the latter case), running normal route to Chambers Street before running via the to South Ferry (stopping there), then via the uptown stopping at Bowling Green on the uptown track before continuing to Wall Street (stopping there), changing directions and then running via Montauge to Borough Hall and Nevins Street, then resuming regular route. operates between 148th Street and Chambers Street ONLY (late nights to Times Square)!! CenSin Posted January 4, 2015 Share #4694 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) I've got a different plan (and I would quote the differences if it weren't for the anemic emoticon limit). The is rerouted via the Rutgers Street tunnel ( ) between West 4 Street–Washington Square and Jay Street–MetroTech. It runs as a local from 168 Street to West 4 Street–Washington Square and from Jay Street–MetroTech to Euclid Avenue. Otherwise, everything remains the same. The is suspended. The is truncated to Delancey Street–Essex Street. The is rerouted via the Montague Street tunnel between Canal Street and Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center to supplement Manhattan–Brooklyn service. The runs as normal. The ’s frequencies are increased with some southbound trains terminating at Whitehall Street to cover for the in Queens. The and terminate at Chambers Street, but otherwise run as usual. The operates between Wakefield–241 Street and Chambers Street as a local. The operates between Harlem–148 Street and 14 Street as an express. The operates in two sections: between Woodlawn and Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall as a local; and between Wall Street and New Lots Avenue as a local. The operates in two sections: between Eastchester–Dyre Avenue or Nereid Avenue and Grand Central–42 Street as an express in Manhattan; and between Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue–Brooklyn College as an express. Some trains are extended to Wall Street. My aim is to reduce transfers to a minimum by not breaking up service into sections where possible, and to maximize the ability to turn back trains. Obviously some redundant service has to suspended to make room for the changes. The , , and can't all run local, and the can't use Broadway–Lafayette with both the and in service. At stations where trains don't operate, nearby stations that do are available. But most of all, none of the changes are so drastic as to confuse passengers. They are all familiar changes that happen when there's a disruption or construction. Edited January 4, 2015 by CenSin

Anyways: Signal Problems at 71 Avenue Express track to Jamaica is stuck to the yard track/ M & R layup track. And its rush hour (PM to be exact). Let's get people where they need to go. and runs local. and runs express. Some trains run via 63 Street. Terminals remain the same except for the initial trains that show up to Forest Hills on their normal tracks. This keeps things moving, and retains the same frequency of service for every line. Forest Hills can't turn the flood of and trains anyway. Folks can transfer at Queens Plaza or Roosevelt Avenue if they need the local stations between Queens Plaza and Forest Hills. Since you deliberately created one with the explicit purpose of crippling the entire system, shut down is the best option. It's like shooting someone in a leg, a foot, a knee, and the spine and then asking doctors how they can make the guy move on his own. The Fulton Street one at least had some semblance of possibility.
