Wallyhorse Posted July 23, 2012 Share #1476 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Here's another one:The 59th Street tunnel gets flooded due to a massive rain storm (4 inches in 3 hours). Running extra trains in the 53rd Street tunnel will not be an option, as there are emergency repairs in that tunnel. The 42nd Street tunnel is not a viable alternate, because 7 service is suspended due to flooding on multiple portions of the track, due to the same rainstorm. Anyone who tackles this will need to address service on the E, F, M, N, R, and Q. I should also mention that everyone needs to be practical (not having 30 TPH in the 63rd Street tunnel). Have fun!!! trains run via the between Jay Street and West 4th replaces the along 6th Avenue (21st-Queensbridge) to West 4th, then runs normal to WTC stops at Queens Plaza and replaces the between Queens Plaza and Church Avenue is suspended runs to Metropolitan Avenue to 53rd Street-Lexington Avenue runs in two sections: Coney Island-57th Street Ditmars Boulevard-Queenboro Plaza runs Coney Island-Times Square ONLY. runs via 63rd Street As the elevated portion can not be flooded so easily, runs between Court Square and Mets-Willets Point ONLY (some local service eastbound terminates at 111th Street, some westbound service terminates at Queensboro Plaza). For Manhattan and Brooklyn, take to 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue. Edited July 23, 2012 by Wallyhorse

NX Express Posted July 23, 2012 Share #1486 Posted July 23, 2012 Where are they on one track except at W. 4th? That is inevitable. Some trains also short turn at Canal Street. If you look carefully, there is a way around the problem. Here's what I would do: Uptown trains run via the line from Jay St to B'way Laf. After B'way, trains switch to the express tracks (to avoid interfering w/ trains) and run via the to 59 St. No trains between Chambers St and 34 St. Uptown trains run via the line between West 4 St and 5 Av/53 St. Unaffected. No trains between Chambers St and 71 Av.

RollOver Posted July 23, 2012 Share #1493 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) I agree with all this, except why not just end service early and go through all that trouble with the reroute? Well because the IND Sixth Avenue and BMT Broadway Lines are quite closer in Midtown Manhattan and same goes for the IRT Lexington Avenue Line. Check Google map. The , rerouted , as well as the trains, will be the best alternative for Broadway customers.
