R188 7857 Posted May 28, 2017 Share #20751 Posted May 28, 2017 So what explains why an artic would be on Northern Blvd and Francis Lewis Blvd? I've seen them a few times in the Northeastern Queens area and I have no clue why. There's no reason why someone deadheading from CS to Bronx Zoo would go all the way around when they can just hop on the Van Wyck and go on the Whitestone.
checkmatechamp13 Posted May 28, 2017 Share #20752 Posted May 28, 2017 Clearly they have something to hide... Takes time to fudge what you need to, to project to the public.... For months now, I've been treating it as one of those things you put to the backburner & will address whenever it arises.... My level of anticipation waned months ago..... As I mentioned in the past, when they released the numbers before the 2010 service cuts (in that PDF document), those numbers didn't match up with the numbers on that "Ridership" page. Whether it's because they excluded farebeaters or just fudged the numbers in general, I don't put much stock into the actual numbers (Some people make a big deal about a 1% increase or 2% decrease or whatever). I just look to see if there's any huge increases/decreases, or if things are relatively stable on whatever route I'm concerned about.

I tend to hone in on the routes that supposedly had significant gains/losses, routes whose usage supposedly remained almost, or literally exactly the same as the previous year (like the Bx10, Bx13, & B36 ), and just by how much the express routes supposedly continue to bleed out every year (only the x21 (expected) & the Qm16 saw gains last year).... The narrative is that buses in this city are losing ridership in droves, so when it comes to the locals, I look at the routes that supposedly saw gains & by how much...... I wish they had the show separate figures for the SBS routes & their local un-counterparts; but that would amount to even more fudging..... If you look at the trend since 2010 that holds true for most Manhattan routes. The year to year losses may not look as bad but if you take those losses over several years you don't get a pretty picture. It's Manhattan routes that are the main laggards as far as declines are concerned and it's not surprising why.

If you are busted at the turnstile using a student Metrocard by undercover cops you WILL have a problem. Years ago I had to go the dentist and used it not thinking about it (my mind was elsewhere) and I was stopped using it coming back home. I was questioned as to where I was going and I was honest. I got lucky because I had one cop that was cool and he convinced the other cop to let me go without a summons. They were clearly looking for students using the pass for joyriding. There's a certain color light that goes off (at least it did then) when student passes are swiped and the undercover cops can tell. Q43LTD Posted May 29, 2017 Share #20760 Posted May 29, 2017 LMAO... So THAT's what happened with Fat Tuesdays.... Even though I'm not a drinker, I kept hearing all this hype about the place.... While I knew it was to open somewhere in Queens, I never knew where.... Fitting that they'd have it at the casino..... Do you remember/know what sparked that brawl? As far as the history, I thought the Bx29 (as we know it today, not the first rendition) was a result of the splitting off of the Bx12 that once went to City Island.... For all that is said about Brooklyn, ppl here don't get as "turnt up" as they do in the Bx & Queens... While I haven't put much thought into it, you're right about that, come to think of it.... The argument/fights in Brooklyn & Manhattan (well, the late night scene south of Central park anyway) during late nights do tend to be tame on average..... Regardless, you're not catching me eating inside of any Dallas BBQ's during later hours because of the f***ery that is known to go on.... I've seen enough of the petty bickering over god knows what outside at the downtown one (Livingston).... How's that one at the junction though? I know a lot of people frequent the place in general, but I haven't been around the junction after hours for a minute now to notice..... Interesting what the junction has become as of late... I only ate at City Island once...in 2000 (when GH still had RTS'). It was family owned restaurant at the beginning of City Island Av. When I went back in 2006, it became a Subway/Dunkin Donuts

VG8 is right about the Subway but this applies to SBS too. get a ticket inspector at an SBS stop and it's GG if they actually check to see if it's a student card. For the subway just take a second or two to actually make sure there aren't cops are your station. There were so many cases I've seen with people getting busted with officers in plain sight. As for normal buses I usually find them less risky, I've only been confronted about using my student card once. I responded with the excuse that I was volunteering at my school, and the bus driver was like "ok." Saying you have practice works too since a lot of coaches love to have practice during off days since they can keep you longer.

I was in high school already, so it was my pass. Told them I had practice, in which I did 7/10 times, and it worked whenever a B/O or cop stopped me the 2-3 times they did. As long as it's your card, make up a valid reason for something you would do in school that doesn't require classes. Allow additional travel time. ...they seriously can't realize that "Cedric Av" isn't a thing in the Bronx?... Cait Sith Posted May 30, 2017 Share #20772 Posted May 30, 2017 Not sure if this was mentioned or not, but the new-ish bus stops with the countdown clocks that are in Staten Island and parts of Manhattan are now hitting Woodhaven Blvd. There's a stop below Rockaway Blvd that has it.

East New York Posted May 30, 2017 Share #20774 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) As far as the Digital info screens go, remember this was just phase 2 of the pilot program for MTA to decide which manufacturer they will select. From what I am being told the decision has now been made and I'm just waiting on confirmation on the winner now. All new buses after this current order should come with them already installed. 5914 had its screen removed because it's Quill bound in short order. MetroTransitTee Posted May 31, 2017 Share #20775 Posted May 31, 2017 I wonder what on what other routes they'll pilot those Digital info screens, I saw a pic of it on Instagram. Looks interesting.
