Lawrence St Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15481 Posted April 10, 2017 Question, in the video below, if you jump to Sutter Avenue, you'll see the routing to Atlantic Avenue and Broadway Junction. Was that section torn down, because the doesn't operate that way today.
RR503 Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15482 Posted April 10, 2017 Yup! That's a remnant of the old Fulton St el which trains used up until 2004ish. Look at this to get an idea of how things once were: https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer

Was that section torn down, because the doesn't operate that way today. https://youtu.be/T4ve4t35uKQ Yes, that section was torn down to reroute all trains on the (former) west side platform of Atlantic Av. Atlantic Av used to be a six track stations that also ran BMT Fulton trains.
Lawrence St Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15484 Posted April 10, 2017 Ah, so what they did was do a Nassau by rerouting all the Northbound trains onto the original southbound express track (or in this case the old southbound Fulton track.) It was done so that trains would stop at the same platform and because the current routing was problematic right?

BreeddekalbL Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15487 Posted April 10, 2017 I would like to also ask is it possible that our subway trains could have a kneeling feature to level with the platforms like the new cta 5000 series or are they already built to platform level for ada?

P3F Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15491 Posted April 10, 2017 Huh? At the left is the end of the current line. At the right is the abandoned Kingsbridge Road station, which was the next stop after Dyre Avenue on the New York, Westchester, & Boston Railway (which was converted into a subway line between East 180th Street and Dyre Avenue.)
Lawrence St Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15492 Posted April 10, 2017 Wait wait, I thought they tore down the old Kingsbridge Road station. Did they not remove it?

Lance Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15494 Posted April 10, 2017 Wait wait, I thought they tore down the old Kingsbridge Road station. Did they not remove it? No. Besides the removal of the rails and the other railroad equipment, the stations were left as is unless someone wanted to use the land for development. Large sections of the Kingsbridge Rd station of the NYW&B, including most of the station house, remain as it was after 1937, just in a sealed state. For those interested, the E 3 Street station in Mount Vernon was also left in a similar state and remained that way for the most part until just a few months ago when the entire structure was demolished for a residential development if I'm not mistaken.
Wallyhorse Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15495 Posted April 10, 2017 Question, in the video below, if you jump to Sutter Avenue, you'll see the routing to Atlantic Avenue and Broadway Junction. Was that section torn down, because the doesn't operate that way today. It was torn down, but enough of it was left standing so if they needed to rebuild it for future routing (i.e.: A line like the old that had a branch run from lower Manhattan to Canarsie and/or shortening the to between Atlantic Avenue and 14th Street (and a Broadway-Brooklyn service run to Canarsie in its place), it could be done.
Lance Posted April 10, 2017 Share #15496 Posted April 10, 2017 It won't as there's insufficient ridership for such a route. The /#14 only ran during the rush hours and the more "recent" only ran some trips to Atlantic Av or Rockaway Pkwy. After that, the original structure only gathered dust, hence the consolidation in the early 2000s.

So maybe they gonna install some here. Could this be in relation to CBTC or those derailments from a few months ago cause they can record data??
