NewFlyer 230 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10732 Posted October 7, 2015 Oh wow I could have sworn someone said that in order to balance out the mileage the R143's would appear on the sometimes. Isn't it bad for a depot or yard to have the same one fleet for a real long time without some type of swap. I mean they only operated on the so I'm sure they racked up high mileage since they are the majority on the with littles breaks or time on other lines.
Fresh Pond Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10733 Posted October 7, 2015 They still run. Caught one last night
Javier Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10734 Posted October 7, 2015 Question, why is the downtown platform at Mets - Willets Point so long?
Priincenene Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10735 Posted October 7, 2015 Question, why is the downtown platform at Mets - Willets Point so long? Because it is. The is 11-CAR FLEETS. Oh wow I could have sworn someone said that in order to balance out the mileage the R143's would appear on the sometimes. The 's keeping the R143's I assume, I still see them whenever I ride the . Hell, sometimes I catch the same set in one day without hunting for it. Theres 3-4 sets currently on the and also im seeing more R160's on the , so there you go.
trainfan22 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10736 Posted October 7, 2015 Question, why is the downtown platform at Mets - Willets Point so long? Extra space to handle Mets and U.S Open crowds?
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10737 Posted October 7, 2015 Because it is. The is 11-CAR FLEETS. You didn't answer his question. Extra space to handle Mets and U.S Open crowds? Doubt that has to do with that, but maybe something related to former operation. IDK, it is an interesting question though.
Priincenene Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10738 Posted October 7, 2015 You didn't answer his question. He asks too many questions. Anyways it has something to do with the Worlds Fair, when the R33WF ran on the Extra space to handle Mets and U.S Open crowds? That too!
R188 7857 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10739 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) He is talking about the Manhattan bound platform, how towards the back, there is a fence and then the platform extends all the way back. My guess is that it probably gives access to some sort of staff area there, as some trains do terminate at Mets- Willets Point. MHV9218 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10740 Posted October 7, 2015 I think that's a relic of the rearrangement of the station to become an express station for one of the World Fairs. The old section of the platform was never demolished when the rest of the station was moved up.
Javier Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10741 Posted October 7, 2015 Jesus Prince why do you gotta be so rude all the time... And thanks to everyone who did answer my question. I was wondering why the platform was so long, I thought it was to support the extra crowds.
Javier Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10742 Posted October 7, 2015 On the R142 train program, does a "Transfer is available to Metro North" announcement play at Marble Hill?
jon2305 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10743 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) On the R142 train program, does a "Transfer is available to Metro North" announcement play at Marble Hill? I suppose it does since it's close proximity to the station. Or maybe it's "Connection is available to Metro North". Fresh Pond Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10744 Posted October 7, 2015 I suppose it does since it's close proximity to the station. Or maybe it's "Connection is available to Metro North". You're right, it says exactly that
Javier Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10745 Posted October 7, 2015 Is there still a set that did not get version 2 of the M60 SBS announcment?
CTK246 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10746 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) Is there still a set that did not get version 2 of the M60 SBS announcment?Do you mean M86? If so, yes. I rode it a few weeks back. Announced a transfer at City Hall. There was also a set that didn't have the update at all. Ah, how good it was to see 'TO WAKEFIELD-241 ST' rather than 'TO WAKFLD-241'. Javier Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10748 Posted October 7, 2015 Well, it seems as trains are running to Wakefield now It's just a glitch in the R142 program when trains get rerouted to 241 St.
R32 3838 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #10749 Posted October 7, 2015 The R143's on the are permanent, they use the extra r143 spares for the to balance out the mileage
NewFlyer 230 Posted October 8, 2015 Share #10750 Posted October 8, 2015 My bad if this was mentioned before but why does the never use R46's unlike the and ? I've seen them on the a few times years ago but you'd think since they come out the same yard they would use them. Even when Jamaica had R32's that ran mostly on the it still never used R46's on a norm and the was primarily R46 at the time. I know the uses whatever is available and sometimes you're lucky to catch a R160. Why is Jamaica set up like that in the first place?
