ttcsubwayfan Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8779 Posted February 2, 2015 Why did they never exisit? What do you mean, why? 1625 was where the numbering for the R62s cut off, and 1651 is where it followed for the R62As. I'm really confused by your question.
CenSin Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8780 Posted February 2, 2015 Why did they never exisit? Well, let's get philosophical here, starting with: why do you exist?
Javier Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8781 Posted February 2, 2015 Let me ask you a question CenSin: why do ANY of us exist. I would tell you the egg story, but my Letter Limit prevents me for doing that.
MysteriousBtrain Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8782 Posted February 2, 2015 I always wonder why a few numbers are skipped, but to answer your question Javier, it's likely to tell the difference between the R62s and R62As.
CenSin Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8783 Posted February 2, 2015 Let me ask you a question CenSin: why do ANY of us exist. I would tell you the egg story, but my Letter Limit prevents me for doing that. I was going to jump there, but wanted to make you go through the thought process from step 1. Since we jumped ahead already, why not jump further: why does the universe exist? It's the ultimate question and pretty much what you're going to end up asking once you've burned through all the intervening questions.
YankeesPwnMets Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8784 Posted February 2, 2015 I always wonder why a few numbers are skipped, but to answer your question Javier, it's likely to tell the difference between the R62s and R62As. Well, the R142s jump from 1250 to 6301 and they're all the same cars. It's probably the MTA being the MTA.....
Javier Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8785 Posted February 2, 2015 CenSin let me ask you (even though this belongs in Off-Topic), who created the universe? Heck why don't we jump all the way to the Big-Bang theory.
Q113 LTD Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8786 Posted February 2, 2015 Hey guys, remember when the started to put out transit campaign ads like eating and leaving trash behind and other stuff? Well here is an example:
Union Tpke Posted February 2, 2015 Share #8787 Posted February 2, 2015 E trains are stopping at 75th Avenue in the manhattan bound direction as there are train layups on the express track. Probably to keep trains out of Jamaica Yard. I wonder why it is not the same in the other direction.

Javier Posted February 3, 2015 Share #8789 Posted February 3, 2015 Been on my mind for a while: The R142's on the / should have FIND systems incorporated into them replacing the strip maps since the and are switching routes everyday.
Q113 LTD Posted February 4, 2015 Share #8790 Posted February 4, 2015 There was a switch problem at Utica av. I was at Mott av, Far Rockaway, found out from the announcement about the problem and the platform was crowded due to train delay and the next train to Mott av was crossing Broad Channel. Also the ran local to Hoyt.
Trainmaster5 Posted February 4, 2015 Share #8791 Posted February 4, 2015 I have a question for my current RTO people. Have there been any modifications to the NTT to improve their operation in inclement weather?: Those of us who operated the R142/ 142A cars when they were brand new might remember the problems they had. For example a n/b or leaving 149th St-3rd Avenue in icy conditions would always have problems trying to make the climb up to Jackson Avenue if it was a NTT. SMEE equipment never had that problem even when they were on their last legs.Ice on the third rail and/or the running rails were also problematic on the Dyre Line because the announcements and onboard computer would be so far out of synch that the "hi tech" components were basically useless. There was also the problem of the "current collector" vs the "contact shoe" back then. Trains with contact shoes never had the issues the NTT did with ice on the third rail. Sure the lights and HVAC might flicker on and off but back when the NTT were introduced to the IRT any fluctuation in electrical current could possibly bring a NTT to a dead stop. That Con Ed substation upstairs at Newkirk Avenue on the Nostrand Avenue line was notorious for it's voltage fluctuations which stopped all NTT movements in and out of Flatbush because the computers would shut down the trains. Imagine being a crew member or passenger on a s/b train stuck down there and having to wait for the emergency truck to bring Car Equipment and Bombardier people to the scene to re-boot the trains affected. Hope things have improved for the crews and passengers. Those railfans who drool over the shiny NTTs don't have a clue. Carry on.

Lance Posted February 4, 2015 Share #8793 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm just going to list all of the NYC transit announcers. That way, we don't get ten questions of "Who does the announcements on X line?" Annie Bergen: , -42nd St Kathleen Campion: - Rockaway Park, Franklin Ave Catherine Cowdery: Jessica Ettinger: Carolyn Hopkins: Flushing, B-Division next train arrivals Charlie Pellett: "Stand Clear of the Closing Doors", other PSAs Dianne Thompson: Bernie Wagenblast: A-Division next train arrivals With the exception of Bergen, each of the on-board announcers' voices pop up on other lines in random spots.

MTA Dude Posted February 5, 2015 Share #8796 Posted February 5, 2015 I think this one has the Franklin Av one. Do you have the video for the Rockaway ?
MysteriousBtrain Posted February 5, 2015 Share #8797 Posted February 5, 2015 I have never heard a annocment except for the Broad Channle one. Is there a video on the 42 St ? It's a collection of old/unused/replaced announcements on the IRT, but in the end is the 42 street .
Javier Posted February 5, 2015 Share #8798 Posted February 5, 2015 Wouldnt it just be easier for her to say "This is the 42 Street Shuttle. The Next Stop Is. Grand Central"
MysteriousBtrain Posted February 5, 2015 Share #8799 Posted February 5, 2015 Wouldnt it just be easier for her to say "This is the 42 Street Shuttle. The Next Stop Is. Grand Central" I believe that would of been easier, but I guess it was programed like that to let shuttle riders know to get the h3ll off at the next and only other stop on the line.
Javier Posted February 5, 2015 Share #8800 Posted February 5, 2015 If the would ever get upgraded to the NTT trains (which is 100 years from now (sarcasim)) would they still be in 3 car sets or would they be extened to 5 car sets?
