Mysterious2train Posted May 9, 2012 Share #876 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) I'm hoping the will update the NTT announcements to announce the transfer to the M34/M34A SBS at 34th St soon, but given how long it took the R160 announcements to get updated with the M15 SBS (I don't even know if the R142s have them, but I doubt it) it'll probably take a while. Guest Lance Posted May 10, 2012 Share #877 Posted May 10, 2012 The only IRT line that would announce the M15 Select is the , but since that line rarely uses NTTs, we won't know for a while. As for the lack of announcements regarding the M34/34A Select, I can't say I'm surprised that it's taken so long to update the transfers (again).
Mysterious2train Posted May 10, 2012 Share #878 Posted May 10, 2012 (edited) I was thinking about the as well, for those rare times when it's sent to South Ferry. But I don't even know if an actual program to South Ferry exists, so wanting an announcement about the M15 at South Ferry would be getting ahead of myself. There's one for to Bowling Green, which is normally used, or to Chambers.
Guest Lance Posted May 10, 2012 Share #880 Posted May 10, 2012 There isn't a program for the to South Ferry. At all. to Chambers St is the program most crews fall back on when the trains are diverted to South Ferry and they do manual announcements after Chambers St.

Does the when it runs R160s?
JubaionBx12+SBS Posted May 10, 2012 Share #882 Posted May 10, 2012 I have a hard time believing that Jessica did the , and announcements. She sounds like a different person on each line. The and announcements sound louder than those on the or it could just be her yelling/placing emphasis on the word "express". And the Bronx bound announcements sound louder than the Brooklyn bound ones for some reason.

Yes, along with the when it runs via the tunnel. Edited May 10, 2012 by Mysterious2train
alejr88 Posted May 10, 2012 Share #884 Posted May 10, 2012 Yes, along with the when it runs via the tunnel. Thanks, though I should have payed attention because Lance said IRT. Thought he meant NTT.
Guest MTA Bus Posted May 10, 2012 Share #885 Posted May 10, 2012 When I was on the train yesterday, the interior sign said: To Flatbush Av Looks like the R142s are following the way of the R160s

Guest Lance Posted May 10, 2012 Share #887 Posted May 10, 2012 Yeah, I know that. For whatever reason, however, there isn't one for the to South Ferry. Though there are programs for the (obviously), and lines to South Ferry from their normal north terminals. Go figure.

Good find Lance.
Guest MTA Bus Posted May 10, 2012 Share #889 Posted May 10, 2012 I know the has a program to South Ferry, which is kind of ironic because the , which nevers goes to South Ferry, has a program for it. Meanwhile, the , which goes to South Ferry every once in a while, dosen't have one. Very Ironic, don't you think ?
trainfan22 Posted May 11, 2012 Share #890 Posted May 11, 2012 On the train I rode home this evening has a new announcement for Flatbush Ave... When leaving Newkirk, It now announces it as, The next stop is "Flatbush Ave - Brooklyn College" rather than the other way around, its noticeably different than the old announcement. Also I wanted to ride a to 179th this evening... I did but it went via the local track because some layups was already on the express track. I guess only the very first to 179th uses the express track.
Mysterious2train Posted May 11, 2012 Share #891 Posted May 11, 2012 That "new" announcement you're thinking of actually the old announcement, from pre-2004. I have no idea why it's still there. To see more old announcements, see here

Guest Lance Posted May 11, 2012 Share #893 Posted May 11, 2012 On the train I rode home this evening has a new announcement for Flatbush Ave... Yeah, some sets have the new "Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College" station announcement done by Catherine in lieu of the original and announcements by Dianne and Jessica respectively. I guess the is trying to be consistent with the names since the maps and the in-station announcements on the train arrival boards announce the station as Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College. However, it's not like anyone's going to get confused if it's announced slightly different.
4P3607 Posted May 11, 2012 Share #894 Posted May 11, 2012 The old announcement is still used for when the is entering & terminating at Bowling Green. I got it on an R142A once, with the old voice that said "transfer is available to the train"
CDTA Posted May 11, 2012 Share #895 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) Far Rock got rehabilitated? I'm not objecting or anything but... Wow. Also how are the G trains supposed to terminate at Hoyt? Edited May 11, 2012 by CDTA
Guest Lance Posted May 11, 2012 Share #896 Posted May 11, 2012 ...how are the G trains supposed to terminate at Hoyt? When the is truncated to Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, the line usually runs in two sections. The first from Court Sq to Bedford-Nostrand Avs and the second as a single-track shuttle from Bedford-Nostrand Avs to Hoyt St.

Joel Up Front Posted May 12, 2012 Share #898 Posted May 12, 2012 I was on the earlier going into Manhattan, but between 65th Street and Northern Boulevard (IIRC), the T/O slowed down and blared the horn as if there were track workers around, but there were none. Why did that happen?
Jamaica Line Posted May 12, 2012 Share #899 Posted May 12, 2012 As I was walking along McDonald Av, overhead I saw a train op with his head out the window as he was operating between Ditmas and 18 Av - just glazing at the streets below. The whole scene was pretty sick. I know it's not such a big deal but while every other railfan has a thing for catching car numbers, I have a thing for catching the characteristics of a train op as he operates. My fav are the old motormen who lean towards the controlls as he operates, especially on a 32. Yea, call me weird if you want...
alejr88 Posted May 12, 2012 Share #900 Posted May 12, 2012 How did the trains terminate at Avenue X when CI-Stillwell was being rehabbed? Yard tracks?? I mean it was the station that was reconstructed.
