Buddy Posted February 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2011 Today around 5pm I was waiting at 96th for downtown . 4 minutes later a train entered the station, which is not surprising to me at all since such cases happen so frequently. However, there was totally no announcement in the train, and I found passengers looking at the map and asking each other. The only announcement was something like "We are held momentarily because of the train traffic..." before I got off at Times Sq. Later I met a nice conductor on the who never omitted one word in his announcement. What a sharp contrast!

If so then people should look at the signs.
SubwayGuy Posted February 10, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2011 If a comes on the West Side or a comes on the East Side it's a common thing. You can count on all stops being made between Chambers Street and 149th Grand Concourse as if it were the other train. However, that said, there are NTT programs for via the Lexington Avenue line and via the 7th Avenue line. Without being there I can't really comment further. Buddy Posted February 10, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted February 10, 2011 Did the exterior signs / interior LED signs / strip maps say anything? If so then people should look at the signs. Unlike previous cases where the outside LED read "via 7 AVE EXP" and complete announcement "This is a Bronx bound 5 express train via the 7th ave line. The next stop is...", today the outside LED is still "Lexington Ave EXP".
T to Dyre Avenue Posted February 10, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2011 Unlike previous cases where the outside LED read "via 7 AVE EXP" and complete announcement "This is a Bronx bound 5 express train via the 7th ave line. The next stop is...", today the outside LED is still "Lexington Ave EXP". It may have been that the conductor didn't have a chance to reprogram the train for the rerouted service announcements or didn't know what code to enter in the train's computer. I've been on rerouted and trains where that happened.
Guest lance25 Posted February 10, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2011 If the conductor or T/O can't change the signs for whatever reason, there should be an announcement about the diversion. While it is a fairly common event, one cannot assume that everyone knows that.
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 11, 2011 I notice that whenever I get on a train at Grand Central that they are usually trains with the strip maps turned off of course turned off. Are they short on trains or what is the deal? I know that the and terminate together in the Bronx and in Brooklyn, but why do they use so many trains as trains? Fresh Pond Posted February 11, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 11, 2011 Wirelessly posted via (BlackBerry8520/5.0.0.900 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100) I notice that whenever I get on a train at Grand Central that they are usually trains with the FIND of course turned off. Are they short on trains or what is the deal? I know that the and terminate together in the Bronx and in Brooklyn, but why do they use so many trains as trains? That's cuz & trains share terminals at Flatbush Av and basically the same yards so an occasional set is on the other line.

ZOMG Anyways (5)s that terminate at Flatbush after 8:28 PM become (2)s. Also if a terminates on the side, I believe it'll become a by default. Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 11, 2011 Excuse me, but who exactly is foaming? FINDS, strip maps... you all get the point. Lay off... And yes technically they're different, but rather than continue to draw a blink I just put FIND so I could continue with my thought.

CTK246 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #17 Posted February 11, 2011 Cool, red always grabs my attention xD Although r142s with FINDS would be foamtastic...
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #18 Posted February 11, 2011 I prefer the FINDs, that's why I was thinking of them rather than those strip maps... Why can't they put in FINDs on the R142s? The strip maps can be confusing if you're not used to riding the line. The FINDs however can be changed in the snap of a finger. CTK246 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #19 Posted February 11, 2011 Retrofitting an R142 with a FIND isn't worth it...that's why we're getting the R188.
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #20 Posted February 11, 2011 Retrofitting an R142 with a FIND isn't worth it...that's why we're getting the R188. Would it be that costly??
CTK246 Posted February 11, 2011 Share #21 Posted February 11, 2011 I'm guessing. Also the whole operating system and routes would need to be updated, and I really don't think R142 hardware would be compatible with a FIND, so it's a waste of time and money in my opinion.
