The original photo that sparked this latest discussion was taken at West 4 and posted on someone's personal timeline.

It is essentially the same train as the current 4 car set.

Actually no, MTA mentioned that there will be a 30 day passenger test for the 10 car train.
trainfan22 Posted February 2, 2019 Share #7206 Posted February 2, 2019 The will be running express on CPW in both directions tomorrow due to an G.O so the 179s will really be able to open up speed wise on the N/B run, the 160s were fun to ride on that stretch when had this G.O in the past. Even the S/B run was fun until you hit the timers.

Far Rock Depot Posted February 2, 2019 Share #7208 Posted February 2, 2019 Thanks Tech and Transit for the video post. This shows the 10-car set doing the "Simulated Revenue test". This comes before the "30-day Revenue test"(in passenger service) and after the "burn-in test".

Coney Island Av Posted February 2, 2019 Share #7210 Posted February 2, 2019 So basically, 3010-3019 is very close to entering service now that's it's doing simulated stop testing. The speculation can finally end and this set will finally be ready for service after almost two and a half years of testing. Unless I'm mistaken and it's doing some other kind of testing...

I’m pretty sure it is simulated stop testing. Based on what I observed from the J and C R179 simulated stop testing, it’ll be anywhere from 20 to 35 days before it enters passenger service. To be clear, I observed set 3058-3065 for the J, and 3150-3157 for the C.
