About how fast can subways go in NYC?

That's why i like PATH, other day i got one going downhill off the lift bridge approach at 62 mph. That stretch is good for 65-75 somewhere in there, but i doubt the PA-x can get up that fast especially going uphill, the higher speed was meant for PRR trains going to new york terminal at exchange place. HBLR also gets up to 50 on the bayonne stretch, and that's in view of the sun. :o

FWIW the maximum LEGAL speed in a river tube is 35mph. It's really amazing to see so many T/Os exposed by railfans. And I thought you T/Os knew better. ...tsk, tsk. Shame on you.

This is one of those unproven stories. Please send me something that proves this statement - an active Bulletin, Notice or Policy/Instruction.

It's not a general rule; it's the posted speed, and most of them do say 35 (and it's enforced by the timers), but a few (like 14th and 60th Sts.) it is higher.

But once you are past timers and there is no speed sign, it's as fast as you can go...
