Fareboxes can be used to determine when a bus is retired or transferred from NYCT Bus to MTA Bus Company (i.e. a retiring NG's farebox is on a 2022 LFS or a retiring OG's farebox is on a recently transferred NG).

I wouldn't use farebox numbers to determine bus transfers and/or retirements. Some of those numbers dont actually equate to the bus they were originally on previously, as they often get switched around during overhauls and/or maintenance work. Using farebox numbers would just complicate things.

I'm aware, but so far it has been helpful. I'm not using it as a certain sign but as something to use along with other signs that may indicate a retirement/transfer. Besides, the more people checking fareboxes, the more swapped fareboxes found, amirite?
