Amtrak7 Posted June 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2010 In the NYCT committee meeting materials for this month, they list a bunch of subway schedule changes, most of which are relatively minor (1-3min) reductions in frequency. However, they do plan one relatively major change, which is to move the 7 express start time from 5:20 to 6:30 and add more local trips during that time. http://mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/100621_1000_TRANSIT.pdf Acrobat page 142. Also: 21:00-22:00 service reduced to 10min from 7.5min
7LineFan Posted June 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2010 Didn't they move it UP to 5:20 not too long ago?
EE Broadway Local Posted June 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 21, 2010 WCBS 2 is reporting that the push-back to 6:20am from 5:30am would begin in December and thirty-eight bus routes would be cut back in this second round which would save $3.7 million dollars per year. Slightly Off-Topic: WCBS 2 in the same story reports that the (M2), which will run from Middle Village to Forest Hills beginning next Monday, is the filthiest subway line with only 32-percent of its' cars considered clean. The and the are the tidiest, each with 65-percent of their cars considered clean. checkmatechamp13 Posted June 22, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2010 For some reason, I culdn't open up the document, but, one question: How does the cut back of the save any money? They have to pay the crews for the extra runtime of the , since it takes 7-10 minutes longer to make the local run.
R32 3348 Posted June 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 22, 2010 This isn't exactly a cut. Last year they did the exact OPPOSITE of this, which was making express service start one hour earlier, from 6:30 to 5:20.
PATCOman Posted June 22, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 22, 2010 I thought the runs express all day.

Last year they did the exact OPPOSITE of this, which was making express service start one hour earlier, from 6:30 to 5:20. But in PM they switch express start time from 12:24 to 2:

FamousNYLover Posted June 22, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 22, 2010 Most middays, there's GO that interfe . This is bad moved. With NY Mets, US Tennis Opens, and concert at CitiField, well as Dragon Boat Festival, Cinco de Mayo, will be more crowded, which is already like sardine like in Japan. MTR Admiralty Posted June 23, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 23, 2010 Do those events go on at 5 in the morning? I would like to attend a Mets game at 5 AM if there is ever one. Which is never.

Amtrak7 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted June 24, 2010 This is getting ridiculous. Prendergast told NY1 that these reductions are not about money, but about the routine adjustment of service that occurs with application of ridership guidelines and the effects of the big service cut package. Well, the guidelines were changed in the service cut package, so everything would have to be adjusted to match per rules, but it's also a sneaky way of saving money. I feel that the MTA should have slipstreamed these cuts into the big reduction package so they wouldn't get so much public attention.
