Bill from Maspeth Posted June 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2010 Just got an Email from a most reliable source telling me that 38x4 R46 units totaling 152 cars will be transfered from JYD next weekend since the the V will be history. They will be moved in 19x8 car trains with 15 going to temporary storage at 207 and 4 to Pitkin entering service "immediately". The ones at 207 will be released for service once they are inspected. This will allow retirement of the remaing 136 active R44's. There is no timetable as to when the last R44 will be retired and all R46's above #5822 will be available for A line service. For space constrictions, here is the low number from each set to be transfered (missing cars should be already in then A line pool): 5822, 5830, 5838, 5854, 5898, 5914, 5918, 5934, 5938, 5954, 5958, 5970, 5978, 5982, 5990, 5994, 6002, 6006, 6010, 6018, 6022, 6026, 6042, 6050, 6058, 6062, 6066, 6070, 6074, 6078, 6086, 6090, 6094, 6098, 6106, 6114, 6122, 6194. LRG Posted June 18, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 18, 2010 will Jamaica have any R46's left after this? Yes, they will. The R46 count between Jamaica and 207th/Pitkin is going to be almost right down the middle.

R10 2952 Posted June 18, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 18, 2010 Glad to see that a decisive R-46 transfer plan has been procured for the retirement of R-44s, because some of those remaining R-44s are really starting to show their age. I ride the on a regular basis, and in my eyes, (NYCT) has yet to get the worst remaining R-44s off the road.

Railfaner100 Posted June 18, 2010 Share #13 Posted June 18, 2010 I believe that it is good that the is retiring all of the R44s by sending in more R46s from Jamaica yard, it not only saves more space but most of all it saves more money so that way the dosen't need to order any more new cars yet. MTR Admiralty Posted June 18, 2010 Share #14 Posted June 18, 2010 While although the R44s will no longer be suitable for passenger operation by September, its final fate is not disclosed. They are still parked in several yards.

YankeesPwnMets Posted June 18, 2010 Share #18 Posted June 18, 2010 They should also give ALL the R46 from the to the (A)/©, R160s from the back to the , and R160s from the to the

Grand Concourse Posted June 19, 2010 Share #20 Posted June 19, 2010 They should also give ALL the R46 from the to the (A)/©, R160s from the back to the , and R160s from the to the That makes no sense. Plus even if the A/C ran only R46s, there will still be a number of leftovers. Jamaica yard will never be 100% R160s. I believe that it is good that the is retiring all of the R44s by sending in more R46s from Jamaica yard, it not only saves more space but most of all it saves more money so that way the dosen't need to order any more new cars yet.B) Jamaica yard is only displacing trains no longer needed for the . It is just coincidence that they are using them to replace the R44s directly.
MTR Admiralty Posted June 19, 2010 Share #21 Posted June 19, 2010 They should also give ALL the R46 from the to the (A)/©, R160s from the back to the , and R160s from the to the Objection. There is still the train, what is there to supply it? Also the fleet is most likely to be broken down and split between the and the . Besides you do need spares aside from the trains that are already assigned in case of break downs or extra service (put-ins). So nope.
rtype3995 Posted June 19, 2010 Share #22 Posted June 19, 2010 Please still be alive R44 # 5417, 5228/9...by the time I get there 5228/5229 is in 207 yard.......dont think its in customer service at this point.......(last week i saw it)
Matt91 Posted June 19, 2010 Share #23 Posted June 19, 2010 And what happens if the gets bailed out by the Feds in the near future? If the R44s are retired, will there be enough cars to restore service to current levels?:eek:B)
Ftrainfan Posted June 19, 2010 Share #24 Posted June 19, 2010 So this is how much R46s should be left for the JYD... and trains are gonna be half R46s with the rest R160s. the of course will remain the same. The and will be R160s only. But that's just my guess.
