Amtrak7 Posted March 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2010 2/21/10. Not as good as I wanted it to be, the white balance was off big-time (set for the fluorescent lamps in my living room). I didn't take any more out of fear of being seen, and I put the camera away a bit too early, so there is a slight blur. Are these fears justified? (In other words, how likely are you to be stopped by someone busfanning vs. railfanning). If not, I can take plenty more photos next time. I saw this same exact bus (4210) again yesterday, right in front of 4209. Too bad I didn't get a pic.

Grand Concourse Posted March 29, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2010 Despite the problem with the white balance, the shot itself was pretty good. Not blurry and very well composed. You should not be afraid. Worse comes worse the driver yells at you. Just gotta take it and move on.

Kingsbridge Bus Posted March 30, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2010 Nice photo. Don't be afraid to take pics cause you think your gonna be stopped. The cops can't arrest you for that & people don't really care. If a pedestrian says something to you, just ignore them.

Bx41 Wakefield Posted March 30, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2010 Nice pic, good to see Caldor still around, lol. In some places you could pretend to be a tourist and take pics.
LRG Posted March 30, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 30, 2010 Nice shot! Just remember to use the proper settings...proper white balance, exposure, the whole enchilada. Keep it up!
Grand Concourse Posted March 30, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 30, 2010 Do pedestrians ever yell at you? No, but just a few dirty looks when I am looking at the pics. I shoot first and worry about the results later.

Yeah, it's really sad no one has made use of that building yet.
SoSpectacular Posted March 30, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 30, 2010 Yeah, it's really sad no one has made use of that building yet. As a matter of fact there's scaffolding in front of the building now... I wonder what store is taking over it... That building's been dead for the past 12 years, it's about damn time!! Grand Concourse Posted March 30, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 30, 2010 Oh that's great news then. I haven't been in the Flushing area in a while now. I last remember seeing it in 2005 when bus fanning the area.

TrainFanatic Posted March 30, 2010 Share #15 Posted March 30, 2010 The pic looks great to me. The improper white balance adds a great effect.

R32 3348 Posted March 31, 2010 Share #17 Posted March 31, 2010 Aside from the white balance, the only thing that you could have improved on is that the bus could've been cenetered in the shot better. Otherwise, great shot. You shouldn't be afraid of taking pictures of buses as you're even less likely to be stopped taking pictures of buses than of trains. People on the street generally don't care, and on top of that you're allowed to take pictures of anything on the street since it's public property. The worst that can happen is that a bus driver asks what you're doing, then just tell him what you are doing is just a hobby and show him the directive/(MTA) rules if he asks further questions.
