Fulton street-broadway/nassau 4. 14th street-union square 5. all stations in manhattan on the 6. broadway junction 7. 161st street-yankee stadium ( 8. mets-willets point 9. queensboro plaza 10. euclid avenue 11. park place 12. 103rd street -man it gets crowded there, the population here is really starting to grow! note: i only mentioned the lines at stations whose platforms need to be widened
Grand Concourse Posted February 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2010 7, what the 4 needs is another exit [games only] at the north end of the platforms. Other than that I don't think much is needed for the 4. 72nd St on the 1/2/3 lines Newkirk Av on the B/Q needs to be widened. But I don't know if they can 'dig' up any more ground under that street. 7LineFan Posted February 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 2, 2010 I don't think any of the Manhattan stations on the need to be widened. Nor can they be widened because they're all island platforms. Mets-Willets Point definitely does NOT need to be widened. Same for Queensboro Plaza. I use that station every day and it's never overflowing with passengers. Grand St (. The stairway placement could have been better at the west end of the 59th St. platform but other than that the station is fine. 51st St. just needs an exit at the other end of the station (but the mezzanine doesn't extend that far which is why this hasn't been done) and the crowding issues are mitigated. Also, Mets - Willets Point already has very wide platforms and not much traffic. Queensboro Plaza is also fine. Times Sq. on the has wide enough platforms, they are wider than average. Grand Concourse Posted February 3, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 3, 2010 Agreed with:2,3,4,8,9 For 5 and 6, I don't think there's any need to change them other than maybe have more exit options [ends for 23rd St and a middle for 14th St]. For number 4, I think the only way to correct the problems at 53rd-Lex would be to build two new side platforms that are for enter only and leave the island platform for exiting only. It should be for rush hour use so that the crowding is spread out than concentrated on a single island platform.
EE Broadway Local Posted February 3, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 3, 2010 How about: 1) Wall Street 2) 157th Street 3) 67th Avenue 4) Alabama Avenue and maybe Broadway-Nassau Street ?
Lennyj17 Posted February 3, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 3, 2010 I know these islands but the island platform are the ones in serious need of expanding 42 St on the - more so in the PM rush than anything else Grand Central - I'm surprised no one has been killed this station reaches maximum capacity very quickly. Lex Av - again PM rush Roosevelt - - Downtown AM RUSH - OMG! All Station between Myrtle and Bedford on the - AM RUSH and Between 6 AV and 1 AV during the PM Rush

NX Express Posted February 3, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 3, 2010 Why does Cortelyou need widening? The only bad parts are the first and last 1/2 a car, and those stations are not too high-ridership anyway.

I do agree about that, but standing at the very southern end of the platform, it is very narrow. The wall should be pushed back by at least 2 feet. Grand Concourse Posted February 3, 2010 Share #23 Posted February 3, 2010 Hey, I'm just stating my opinion. I've stood there to take pics and you can barely stand 'perpendicular' to the wall and stay within the platform width.
