Off-topic Random Thoughts Thread

Ok let's see... It takes YEARS to make your way up to a railroad train engineer. The railroad company practically owns your ass for a good thirty years - that means unsociable hours, and days away from home, having to sleep in hotels 'n what not. Let me add in railroaders have one of the highest divorce rates among jobs for some reasons I pretty much stated two sentences ago.

The negatives seems to outweigh the goods IMO. The pay may be good, but your sure as hell not gonna enjoy it much.

So forget about Amtrak, I'll stick to the subway or our local Class III railroad.

Another reason as to why I find it funny when some people say "train drivers have the easiest job in the world!" Operating the trains alone is already stressing...

On Friday, I heard a crossing guard yelling at a woman for actually waiting for the light to change while crossing with her child. She was shouting out "C'mon, don't you know how to cross a street. There's no cars coming". Aren't these crossing guards supposed to encourage you to obey the traffic laws? If the woman wants to wait for the light to change, let her wait. IT's not making your job any harder.

(the quote) Sounds like some shit you'd read in a newspaper; "how hard is it really to drive a bus or train"..... "they have the easiest job in the world".... "they don't deserve all that money, they just sit on their asses all day".... yada yada yada.....

As much of enthusiasts that we are on this forum, out in the media (at least the NY media anyway), there's a serious bias that exists against transit.... and I'm talkin about outside of the whole BS regarding Darius McCollum....

Agreed. Both jobs are a perfect example for the quote "more than meets the eye"...

agreed, but thats the way so called journalism works today. they sit on their high horses everyday and pick out who to take down and who to prop up everyday. its summed up perfectlly in a line from the movie "The Natural" when the reporter max mercy (played by robert duvall) when he said to roy hobbs (played by robert redford) "It doesnt matter, whether youre a hero or a goat today, youre gonna make me a great story tomorrow"

Just finished reading "Want It ; Need It". (http://www.fimfiction.net/story/15223/1)

That was a GREAT story. I liked that it had an open ending (Like "Rainbow Factory".), and I loved that appearance from Trixie! Very well written, although I anticipated it to be longer. You know, i'm at a loss of words here, that story was just amazing.

Another problem I had with Batman: So he wasn't dead the whole time? Or was it just a double? They really didn't explain that.

Also, I noticed we have those things on top of your profile again.

Funny... Most folks would be happy getting a bonus in this economy, but when I saw how much taxes was taken out of my check it's almost like a double edged sword. I did all of the hard work, yet almost half of my reward goes to Uncle Sam. I knew there was a reason I didn't want to become a grown up when I was a kid. <_<

Another random thought: So Jennifer Lopez's boyfriend is gay eh? lol... I heard on the news this morning... At least that's the rumor going around. She should really calm down. I'm sorry but I don't see how a dude accidentally walks into a gay porn shop. I don't buy that he's so young crappola... In any event let's see how many more "accidents" he has. He might as well just confess already. These days no one really gives a crap anyway it seems. I mean hey Ricky Martin finally came out and if anyone ever had rumors surrounding him, he had a target of infinite proportions aimed right at him.

lol, Did she do anything afterwards? ie: shouting at the guy in spanish or did she just ignore him?

I don't think the woman was really paying attention. The guy was shouting it from his car (of course, right. You can't even insult somebody to their face even if they don't look intimidating at all), and she probably just thought it was a random guy shouting something.

Well, I've been looking for another upscale place where I can get good takeout from near Grand Central and finally got around to getting some grub at Cipriani (Le Specialità). I got a pretty decent amount of food for lunch for $20.00 and of course of high quality...

-Mortadella sandwich on ciabatta

-Large gazpacho

-Coffee panna cotta

-Double shot macchiato

Now if we could only have more places like that WITHIN Grand Central, I'd be a happy man because most of the places are overpriced here and not of high quality.

Coughing up a storm over here. I'm thinking "Great, I got rid of the runny nose". Then I get the chest pains I mentioned earlier, and now I can't stop coughing. I'm wondering what the hell it is. Sometimes I cough up phlegm, but other times I don't. I hope it isn't pneumonia or anything like that. (Out of curiosity, is pneumonia something you can get from somebody who doesn't show any symptoms?)

Edit: Looks like it can't be pneumonia, but it could be bronchitis, which I've had before (though I don't really have wheezing or shortness of breath). I remember I was about 8 years old and I woke up one morning coughing like crazy. But it looks like it just goes away on it's own, so there's nothing to do but wait it out.
