  1. In all serious, BusTime that hard to modify and edit? Which division in the MTA is responsible for that? I would wholeheartedly volunteer to fix up the ENTIRE city with stop corrections. Its absurd and I don't understand why it takes so long to get shit done. All stops should be coordinated as the DOT has them marked on the streets, and if the DOT doesn't communicate with the MTA on stop relocations, it should be the drivers responsibility to report any inaccuracies with the screens (wrong transfers, premature stop announcements, late stop announcements, wrong pronunciation, etc) to their respective depots at the end of the day, or week, and have the depot submit any issues with the routes at that depot. This is some elementary school logic, I don't get what's so hard. Please can some higher up please send me to the right source? Some action needs to be taken care off, it's up to the next generation of leaders to step up and act, period.

  3. @NY1635 Wait the Belmont branch is getting eliminated? Before I even go into detail on why I think that is the dumbest decision ever, is Belmont and all of the service being provided going to be seasonal or all year round?
  4. I definitely agree you on that, which would've been the most logical thing to do. This is going to be going on for quiet some time so fresh schedules from start would've been ideal. You're being dramatic with your example of why buses shouldn't run early lol, it's not that serious, but I know where you're coming from. I'm just saying there should be some time of window that's OK. Like 2 min early - 3 mins late.
  5. Can't believe dispatch is bitching about being early. It shouldn't be a problem to be 3-5 mins early during times like this. If you're essential you'll be at the stop anyways, not just free roaming around. Staten Island on the other hand (best borough to ride buses), got its drivers hauling everywhere. I absolutely love it and I'm pissed I cannot ride these buses right now. I go for jogs and walks and the hauling the drivers are doing is amazing. Thank God for tight paddles and automatically leaving the ferry 5 mins late. The S79 is just a naturally hauling route. Only route that I've seen sitting at stops is the S53.
  6. Don't forgot the new scheme was Cuomo's idea, and he wanted the state colors on the buses, the navy blue and gold. The yellow looks fine on the local scheme, any other scheme its just too tacky.
  7. I'm not entirely sure, but I know every time it shuts off its at a switch. The middle rail is not continuous at switches either. And I believe it shuts off when both motors of the car are off the power, and doesn't come back on until both motors are engaged with the power.
  8. Idk if it's growing on me, or if the XD60s just make this scheme look so good? Only thing thats irking me is the fact that the scheme is streamlined, looks very choppy. There's no natural blend in the colors. I'm also not a fan of the blue over the yellow in the rear of the bus, as well as the the blue stripe in the front of the bus. But the light blue, dark blue, the clouds, airplanes, and all the branding all looks good.

  12. Trust me, I'm 100% for electric running or battery electric. But these agencies are so stubborn with certain things, so I try to go with the current thinking. The MTA did say they want all buses to be electric by 2045, so they can actually do the same with the railroads as well. Basically, they need a lot of locations to charge these trains, but it can definitely work on the LIRR.
  13. I can only speak for LIRR, but one thing I can note is whatever they plan on ordering will be restricted to one type of diesel/dual mode fleet. Too many different type of trains for limited branches is a waste of money and maintenance nightmare. I do personally believe that direct service into Penn and Grand Central on the Oyster Bay branch will be limited to peak only in the future. Therefore, you'll only need 5-6 cars for each train, and off peak can have 3-4. And for the Montauk branch it will only be for Cannonball runs. Obviously these trains will need full length trains (12+ cars). I do believe that frequency is a priority with the Cannonball runs, and double decker trains are the worst thing you can have on that branch. We can all safety assume that double decker trains are coming to an end with the LIRR after this C3 fleet. Especially with signal modifications allowing for more trains and single floor trains allowing for quicker boarding times. The Port Jefferson branch will probably be the only hybrid branch in the future, with plans to double track it before electrifying it. Most trains will run as shuttles from Port Jeff to Huntington with more frequency, and select trains will run the full branch from Penn Station, so I see full length dual mode trains being needed for that. The Greenport branch can only use maybe 1 train (married set) of whatever rolling stock they order, as I'm sure direct service will be eliminated (if it isn't already). Personally, I feel that none of those trains fit the LIRR, as they don't seem to have gangway or cross car capabilities on the cab ends, and that single door would only be useful for branches like the Greenport. But anyways, they would need one hybrid fleet type for the diesel territories and direct service extensions. Oyster Bay will need trains that are similar to 6 bilevels for rush hours, and 3-4 bilevels during weekday off peak and 6 on weekend off peak. Greenport will need trains that are similar to 2 bilevels. Port Jeff will need trains similar to 4 bilevels off peak and 6 bilevels peak (more frequency would require less single train capacity). Montauk can have trains that are similar to 4 bilevels all day besides the Cannonball trips.
  14. Just follow the pattern. So SIM25... 7 is for staten island express buses. The second and third digit is the route 7,25,and the last is the destination, it can be anything from 0-9, depending on many readings it has and if the route number was used before. So SIM25 is definitely 725x...I'm not sure what the last digit is, maybe 0 and 1 for each direction.
  15. Sim22: 722x, 722x (the last digit is either a 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Given that there was a X22 and X22A before with two codes each, it's probably 4 and 5. IDK which shows Midtown and which shows Eltingville) SIM26: 7260, 7261 most likely since that's the first 26 route bus on the island.   20. They actually did have those as well. I forgot to mention that. I'm not sure if it was "official", but it happened years ago. I'm not sure it's throughout all depots though, someone else can probably answer that.

Basically only three things : 1) riding on a bus with multiple training B/Os and an instructor. 2) standing next to the driver on an in service trip. 3) a big book that lists all the routes and which way to turn down a street, all the stops (you think those stops are up to date? Pff, please) along each route, and the directions/streets to turn on when deadheading back. Its honestly a lazy carefree method, and they expect you to learn the routes yourself. That's why you have so many people on the extra list that'll get assigned something and not know where they're going because there's no repetition and reading a bunch of routes and streets to turn on from a book gets overwhelming and a big mix-up. The perfect way to train, IMO, is to mirror the routes so you can get the muscle memory and when on the route, you can just easily identify what comes next (for the most part). There's a few B/Os that I know, I told them to do it with their cars up and down the routes, and they easily learned the routes in that depot within 2 weeks (4 off days + a few extra hours before work (everyone gets PM hours at the beginning). The hardest part was remembering stops. I created a diagram map for them by using clues along each stop (for example, the S79). I would have. Start point : Bus Stop: 4th Ave, 86st. NS (near side, before the traffic light) -At traffic light (this means the light at the NS stop), turn right onto 86st -Continue to the 3rd traffic light. Turn right on Fort Hamilton Pkwy. -Continue to 2nd traffic light. Turn left on 92nd st. -Bus Stop: 92nd St, Fort Hamilton Pkwy (FS) I also had the transfers listed as well as what lane to stay in on turns, etc. This was a lot easier to read on paper because I had the paper set up so you can literally turn it as you turn your bus, to give a visual as to what to do next on the route, along with how many stops and where they're located on each segment. So when they were first driving by themselves, they had their paddle and that piece of paper on the dash, and was good to go. Being late wasn't even a thought with them, that's for amateurs. And obviously the times I was free I would help them by riding with them and that was also the most easiest as they would be able to ask any questions as we go. Literally two weeks to learn (excuse me, MASTER) all the routes at their depots. The best thing I did for them was the map (back then it was just like an updated MTA PDF schedule map, but with the lines showing the actual turns along the route, and requiring you to turn it after you turn your bus. If the MTA can have something like that for each route, drivers would be better off. Idk why the buses don't have a mini GPS system screen next to the farebox but that's too "complex" for NYC🥴.
