  1. There's been a guy mentally disturbed guy throwing rocks and stones at buses as they pass by near Bay St & Water St, so buses have been on detour for like the last week or so. Basically towards the ferry, the S51/S76/S74/S78 are taking Vanderbilt and going back across to Front St (around Clifton shop), and along the water to Hannah St, where they turn right on Bay St. The S52 follows the route up until Hannah St, but instead of turning right on Bay St, it continues up to St Pauls, and backtracks via the S78 route to Cebra, where it turns right to continues the route. Going towards the other direction, the S51/S76 still use Front St to Bay St/Vanderbilt. But the S52/S78 after St Pauls/Beach St continue down St Pauls to Osgood, then take that to Vanderbilt and then back onto Tompkins. The S74 runs via the S78 to St Pauls and continues on St Paul's until it hits Broad St. Its a hot mess. I see why they said issues.
  2. I said that last summer but people said its just because they're newer...I refuse to believe that, those buses just straight up have a faster acceleration. The 2015s did not accelerate that fast ever. The 2019 LFS are tricky though, at some lights if you step on the gas it accelerates normally. But if you let it roll a bit then hit it, it picks up and really hauls down the street.
  3. @Snorunts "Why would TU need SBS units?" Why would KB need SBS units? And you saw what happened there, they got wrapped into the local scheme (and the SBS scheme is done anyways). MTA is always preaching about fleet uniformity. Well here's your chance. MCH can send their 55 XD60s to Quill in exchange for 55 LFSAs (they already had LFSAs to begin with). TU can send their 30 XD60s to Quill in exchange for 30 Novas. Now you have some uniformity; Quill focuses on Xcelsiors, TU focuses on LFSAs. The left over LFSAs can stay at Quill until they are needed elsewhere (possibly S.I). @Around the Horn "If I were going to hypothetically move around articulated buses, I would just move all 90 of the 1200s to Tuskegee and keep them at one depot, then supplement them with 38 of the 2011 or 2012 LFSAs. The other 62 LFSAs can go to Gun Hill or Kingsbridge, 9 of the XD60s can then go to Flatbush pushing those Novas there to Kingsbridge for local service with the other 19 going to Gun Hill." But then you'd go back to depots having two types of articulated fleets, I thought the goal was fleet uniformity?
  4. No, only the rear is tilted because of the steps in the rear. Do you need assistance? Zoom in and look at the first screen towards the front. It's not supposed to be like that. This video will show you how the front two screens are supposed to be positioned.
  5. It would be Gun Hill to have one of the interior information screens to be dangling from the roof of the bus. Why is that depot so ghetto, and why does the MTA allow this to continue? You see nobody talks about LGA and S.Is maintenance anymore, because they've stepped up over the years, whereas KB and Gun Hill haven't and UP is another that's getting worse year by year. (Its the screen in the front of the bus, you can see at 3:00 in the video).
  6. They should do a fleet swap and give MCH and TU the LFSAs. 55+30. Then the remaining LFSAs can stay at Quill in a sea of XD60s until S.I gets the batch of LFSAs. Edit : I said what I said, but reply in the Fleets & Depot thread and tag me.
  7. Had my first ride just now on the M9 on the 8:23pm Train from Babylon to Penn Station. This was literally the best LIRR experience I've had. The train is QUIET af, and it runs so smooth, and it just feels so refreshing. I feel like the announcements drag, and it can get a bit annoying, although I like the announcements about the short stations, and other announcements like keeping your bags off seats, see suspicious packages, etc. It would be nice if they can add connection announcements, and maybe places of interests. I didn't even check out the bathroom, but as for the train overall, omg it might look similar to an M7 but it literally makes the M7s look like junk. I transferred to an M7 to Atlantic Terminal and I was disgusted, and of course I get a car where the rattling and squeaking is extra loud, and guess what...flat wheels as well. Can they just retire the entire M7 fleet and just streamline the fleet with M9s?😭 I even told the conductor these trains are beautiful, and they're very quiet. He said yeahh they're awesome but give them a few months and they'll run like the older ones. I seriously hope LIRR maintenance doesn't f**k these up.
  8. Wherever a Prevost can run, an artic should have no issue as well.
  9. He said 40fter, so it was one of the 2019 LFS, which have pretty decent A/C. But @trainfan22, the windows were OPEN, and today the humidity outside was high, so it was fighting the A/C and the air wasn't able to get down and circulate well. That can happen on any bus. The union can only do but so much, especially when the ridership demands it. Unions fought CBTC in the subways, and now look... Unions can be good, but they tend to be stuck in the past and fail to modernize, some things just require upgrades, it's a part of life.
  10. I don't understand what is being evaluated when testing artics. The S40/90 route seems fine. Routes like that damn B38 has artics. Literally the streets and turns are so damnn tight compared to Richmond Terr and South Ave in S.I. Also, the turns don't seem to be an issue physically, maybe DOT can readjust some lights and reverse some streets or add some stop here on red markers. But tight streets are the least of my concern. The MTA is definitely gonna have artics in S.I by 2022, it's the new normal. So whatever small issues there are, they will be fixed. The S79 and S40/90 should be the only two as of now IMO.
  11. One time test means there wasn't much to test. Seems like everything went smooth, but this is definitely something that I don't see happening until September 2021. I wonder what's the status with that north shore brt project.
  12. There is a 2017 odd numbered XD60 in Staten Island on Richmond Terrace...what could that possibly be for? Testing artics in for the North Shore BRT?
  13. How will that work? Will they have readers that can scan credit cards, phones, watches, and OMNY cards to verify the payment? What would it show them on their screens?
  14. Woodside and Jackson heights is ideal, but why not LIC? Especially with all of the subway connections and the proposed LIRR Sunnyside station...it would basically become a modern day Woodside without any residential disturbance.
  15. Dont mean to change the subject but as of today, the Q70 route has been modified (as well as coverted to artics). Heading to the airport it now stops at Terminal D first, followed by C and B. Before it would stop at Terminal B first, then D and C. Bustime has been updated, but I'm madd at how every other terminal has a logical stop name 'LGA/Terminal C" and Terminal B is called 'Terminal B/HOV Lane'. Really MTA? Is that what you want the information screens to spit out to passengers, it's already bad enough the buses have the garbage clever devices that just pronounces the text at random with no next stop announcements. Also, southbound after it serves 74th-Roosevelt, it turns onto 75th St and continues down to Wooside, and turns right on Woodside and heads down to 61st (easy access to the eastbound LIRR platforms as well at Woodside/62nd st). This should've been the route from the start, alleviates dealing with traffic on Roosevelt and dealing with the horrible layover space on 61st with the Q53.
  16. Yepp the B6 is one of the heaviest ridership routes in Brooklyn. It is a route that can definitely use artics, and maybe an SBS variant down the line. Also, now that Ulmer Park can handle artics, the B6 getting artics or running artics isn't far behind. Side note: It is hilarious watching these B1 drivers exaggerate their turns and waiting for extra space with these buses. If they understood the engineering behind an artic, they would know that the turning doesn't need more radius than a 40ft bus. They're driving these buses as if it's 60ft of a non-bendy bus. But, practice makes perfect.
  17. I doubt they'll leave 5 oddball XD60s at GH with 150 LFSAs as their artic fleet. They'll probably head over tonight, 4743-4753, 4781-4793 is only 24 and I believe they were due for 28. It'll also be nice if they can run a few on the B6, especially if an operator has the B1/B6 in their shift. It'll be a good test for future artic operations (which are inevitable at this point).
  18. @paulrivera 4795-4798 were all in service today on Gun Hill routes. Edit: Actually all 4 of them are in service as of 9:25pm 4795 Bx5 4796 Bx40 4797 Bx4 4798 Bx5
  19. Sorry for bringing this back up, but why not have this so called AirTrain run from LIC to LGA via the Amtrak right of way and making a sharp right to the north side of the Grand Central Parkway (GCP) all the way to LGA? You can build it over existing railway infrastructure, connecting it with the trains at Queensboro and Queens Plaza. Also, since there's supposed to be a planned Sunnyside Station for the LIRR, that would provide LIRR riders with easy access (and to encourage LIRR riders to use the AirTrain, LIRR can implement a 'LGA Airport' station into their system, and charge accordingly to avoid paying a separate fare for the Airtrain). There can be ticket scanners that scan your paper tickets and collect them, and another that allows you to scan your E-Tix for entry. The same can be implemented at JFK where the LIRR creates a 'JFK Airport' station and you can book your trip via the LIRR app and be charged according to zone and distance to avoid paying with two different payment systems. The AirTrain would run parallel to the LIRR tracks along Skillman and Barnett Aves, then it will fly over the LIRR tracks and run parallel to the eastern-side of the Amtrak R.O.W to the GCP, where it can make a sharp right and run on the North side parallel to the GCP all the way to LGA. It would have a terminal stop at LIC/Sunnyside, and then stops at Marine Air Terminal, Terminal B, and another stop in between Terminal C/D...and if needed...can run to 'Willets Point'. Thoughts?
  20. I was just coming to mention that, I noticed 6274, 6279 and 6286 are all running right now. I wonder if the latter two are wrapped as well. Edit : I just took a look at the new routing, I like it and looks like it'll definitely help the flow of the route. Are they making the entire 61st south of Roosevelt to Woodside the last stop / layover spot?
  21. Good points, I assumed some people on here would have the answers. We had people on here that had access to future bus orders, they have sources that can track which buses are at what depots and their statuses; you would assume someone or some people would have a connection to someone who's doing the coordination of buses at the DOB. I know it's not the end of the world, it's looks better on paper (on rosters) when buses are grouped in order and uniformity.
  22. Same thing with the Staten Island Prevost. I understand the mileage thing, but if it was just about mileage, they would be sending over specific buses instead of a small batch of consecutive numbers. Like UP getting the 73xxs from FB, the 72xxs from FP or GA, the 7134-7139 batch from ENY. I'm sure not every consecutive bus in that batch is going for the same mileage reasons. The reason why this discussion keeps coming back and forth is because no one knows how to break down the exact reasons for why things are being done. People say, "its because of mileage", "its just how the DOB" does things. But when you ask, why, or bring up counter-discussions, people catch temper tantrums. I would appreciate it if people had more civil discussions, especially when you're familiar with the user and their presence on this forum.
  23. I was thinking around 35-40 because they're getting about 28 60fts, that's equivalent to about 42 buses.
  24. These moves make me wanna vomit😂🤮. Might retire some OGs.
