  1. They need to communicate the stops to the n6 drivers better or the driver needs to listen. Some keep insisting that Fulton/Terrace is not a stop westbound and Hilton isn't a stop eastbound...today the driver skipped Fulton and riders at the stop attempted to flag the bus and people on the bus told the driver he is supposed to stop. A few riders got on at Meacham today westbound. Had a few standees on the express this morning for the first time.

NICE had a system pick for the new schedules. There may be new drivers on the N6. That doesn't excuse missing stops. It just explains it. Hopefully, drivers will talk to their supervisors and get clarification.

There are 3 intermediate stops on the N6 Express (Hilton/Terrace, Westminster Rd, Meacham Ave), It doesn't matter how new the drivers are, that makes no sense for them to not know the THREE stops. Then again... the drivers interline with like 5 routes LOL.

    N35 at 8 54 came at 9 05 so I took the N51 at 905 which was interlined with the 40. I saw him doing a 16 after too.

It's a rough new pick but things will get better (hopefully).
  2. So, far all N20 CW Post/Hicksville are very crowded on Weekend from my experience.

Chain reaction at Flushing, along Northern Blvd makes buses very late.

When I went to Whole Foods store in Jericho, I took N27 to Northern Blvd and did not wate for N20 and left without N27 connection.

N20 Hicksville soon came after that, dropping off near side for N27 and came to pick up.

They missed connection by 2 minutes.

It's not working out in either.

N20 CW Post and Hicksville bus, they both failed to meet N27.

They also have to cross busy Northern Blvd.

Did the N27 driver attempt to wait for the N20, then leave, or it just dropped off and left?

I hope you all are sending complaints to NICE. If they're goiig to combine routes and have timed transfers they have to make sure connections are made, ESPECIALLY on one hour headways!!! They may need a dispatcher there telling drivers to wait.

Felt the affects of the n24 this morning 8 12 came late to hicksville got to roosevelt at 8 45 and missed the 16 43 and then the 45 left a minute early and now im stuck here waiting for a bus to school.

Damn, how long until the 35 or 51 came?
  3. Not all N20s and N27s are timed transfer with each other.

Yes I know,I was simply stating that oddly enough, on Sundays the hourly N20's to Hicksville are timed to connect with the N27, not the hourly runs to CW Post. The connection timings are just a few mins apart, if the buses are always late, riders might as well take a CW Post bus, because they'll wait maybe 15-20 mins (or less due to extreme lateness) for the N27 as opposed to missing one by a 5-15 mins and waiting 45 mins for the next one.

If I go any farther north than Hempstead Turnpike, it'll take me too long. Plus, judging from how packed N25s are when they get to NHP Road for the N6, I suppose it gets more riders the closer to Great Neck it gets. I don't live close enough to Lynbrook for me to even consider the 31, so I can't rely on the 31 popping up at the station to take me to the 25.

I tried the N16-N4-N25 route but what with the Hempstead short turns confusing me at the time, I started using the 32. Since 2010 all they've done is completely butcher the headways. It might save money, but I'm approaching that breaking point...

Yeah in the morning those northbound N25's crossing Hempstead Turnpike are SRO, I'm not sure when the people start getting off, I'm thinking towards the first LIJ Hospital, you can see a few of them are wearing scrubs when the weather is nice. When I used to use the 32 it was on 20 min headways rush, and I think 30 min headways mid-day. How are the loads on the N32 now that its on 40 min headways mid-day?
  4. N81 the reason why it doesn't Work is INFREQUENT SERVICE it is a crosstown so it us too infrequent to attract ridership the N80 should be an express variant of N20 going non stop from hicksville to lakeville rd then great neck. In the future it may be able to go to LGA via cross island and 678 I know that part of cross island can support buses. But who knows

The reason why it doesn't work is because the residents of the areas it serves has virtually no use or desire to use the bus. And before you say that's why they should follow your plan, extending routes all over Nassau is not going to help that mindset at all.

My one gripe with all this is that they actually increased the off-peak headways on the N32 from 30 to 40 minutes while only announcing the midday headways being slightly longer at 20 minutes, up from 15. It isn't consistent, either; it starts at 10:00 AM, then 10:40, then 11:20... it's goddamned annoying. I absolutely hate the N6 and how rides can either be smooth and quick or SRO + "Please do not stand in the rear door area" going off every 15 seconds + someone either getting off or on at every stop...

Yes, the combined headway is every 20 mins. Each route runs every 40 mins for the main portion of the route, but the N31's north terminal is usually Lynbrook. So going to/from Hempstead is 40 mins. Also, the times you listed are consistent, "10:00 AM, then 10:40, then 11:20" are 40 min intervals. lol. Have you tried the N24 to N25 yet? How about N16-N4-N25? Is that what you tried that day you missed the N4 by the depot?

Today, I took 9:30 N20 Hicksville #1821 at Flushing-Main St and it got extreme crush loaded from all the way from rear to end.

When I announce there was no N21 Glen Clove, lots of passengers were not happy with it.

One Chinese lady caused chain reaction forcing this B/O to be very late.

Chain reactions continue on most along Sanford Av-Northern Blvd until Clearview Expressway.

It was very insane and it properly going to miss time transfer with N27 Glen Clove and Glen Clove passengers have to wait another 1-hour.

That's another goof, they timed the N20's to Hicksville to connect with the N27 instead of the N20's to CW Post.

  5. The only official Fastracks I will call Fastrack is the ones the MTA mark as Fastrack. Any other G/O as most people claim as "Fastrack" i don't consider it, only a standard General Order.... Just like most are saying the (E) and (F) bypassing stops in Queens. To me it is Standard G/O not Fastrack..

It's actually not a standard go, it'sa differnt program funded with the same money as FastTrack.

I am not anti Veolia and realize they are doing the best they can under bad circumstances and I do appreciate the better communication with riders but Mike Setzer’s spin is getting a little annoying. A general cut is a general cut even if some get improvement s and the effects are minimized due to smart planning it is still a general cut. Good spin involves saying what is literally true to give a falsely positive picture. He keeps on saying only a small amount of people will have changes that are noticeable. Yes I am going to be “selfish” here for as moment to demonstrate a point even though my situation is far from the worst. My route the N24(Jericho Tpke) would be considered a busy route, not N6 busy but not one rider on a bus either. According to NICE rush hour apparently ends before 8AM because that is when “midday” 1 bus for every 1/2 service starts. Again this service is great compared to what some people have and can be easily planned for but that is not the point. Going from 1 bus at every 10 minutes to once every 15 minutes if you need to get the bus is not noticeable as Setzer says but going once every 10 to once every 30 thirty is noticeable and an example of Setzer’s disingenuous “spin”. What I really getting totally sick of hearing is how great they are compared to the MTA who would have cut 50% of the routes. Everybody even Veolia “haters” have bought into the notion that there would have been a 50% cut in routes but it most likely would have not happened not even close. If you live around here you know the drill, MTA proposes “doomsday” cuts and or fare hikes and after a bunch of screaming the cuts are much less or unforeseen money is suddenly “discovered” and the cuts are “postponed”. It happened with 50% cuts MTA LI Bus in was supposed to have in 2011 did it not? The true test what the MTA cuts would have really been compared to what Veolia’s will be after the 2nd, 3rd 4th, quarter cuts. Whether the cuts are or a bus service in general are deserved or not is your opinion but base your opinion on reality rather then spin “facts”.

"Coping" with service these ill-advised changes is a real stretch of the imagination! Eliminating the N-6 Limited bus with stops that served many commuters and many other bus service connections and replacing it with the N-6 Express which serves very few is proving to be the nightmare I feared it would be. On Tuesday 4/10 during the PM rush returning from the 169th St. F train to Nassau county after a long day of work, it took almost one hour of waiting in a long and rowdy line of very frstrated commuters for me to finally get onto an N-6 local bus. As I'd suspected would be the case, I did get to see several nearly empty new N-6 express busses pass by, while dozens of us waited for an N-6 local with enough room to squeeze on. I fail to see how jamming local busses beyond capacity and running empty express busses serves the taxpayer or commuters!

  7. Wow, and I just went to Maps randomly today. lol

Also, has anyone figured out what the mobile site address of NICE bus is? It's advertised on the new schedules, but its still the full site.

http://nicebus.com/_mobile/index.html on the main site, look at the lower right corner and you will see a link that says "Mobile Version"

What's the point of the extra eastbound short turns on the N71 Saturday mornings? They're not new to NICE, and I don't think that 6AM-9AM is the peak point on a Saturday.

They turn back at Stewart Ave, so maybe deadheads converted to revenue service? But to where? Most Hicksville routes have already begun operations by 9, and if they were deadheading to Sunrise Mall they wouldn't make them short turns.

They turn back using the NY-135 Ramps. People have to get to work along Hempstead Turnpike, the Hospital(s), as well as get to Hempstead to transfer to other buses, etc and they need somewhere to turn the buses around, but not as far east as NY-110 or Sunrise Mall. So they end at Stewart Ave, and Loop around back to Hempstead.
  8. It does mention that it only serves NCC and Hempstead in the tiniest font. You'd think they'd run a few more runs considering after 2:30 the buses leaving NCC can be packed.

    They want students to utilize all routes. N16, N35, N43, N45, N51.

the n16X should be given a diff. designation

    n18, maybe?

I think N16x fits it, it's basically express.
  9. I reread the article and you're right. She made it seem as if she was going to arrive 2 hours later.

Actually, my first instinct would've been to take the N49 and then walk or take the N24, but your route via the RFM makes more sense.

The combined headways of the N48/N49 is one hour mid-day. So if the next N48 is in two hours, then the next N49 is it one hour. So she could take 4 buses to the mall (n15, n16,n35, n43) with the bold being the quickest routes, and the N24,( which is on 30 min headways.).

Speaking of the N16, where are those non-stop runs to Hempstead? I liked the 43 and all but the 16s that do come will flag people like crazy. The 35 might be able to help half the campus, but what about the other half, where the most people get on?

The non-stop runs are the N16X that you see in the photo threads. You need NCC ID to get on those buses. Students are going to have to learn that if they wan't their choices of all buses then they should go to the N building or behind the clusters. or just take the N43 by the student union building if they can't fit on the N16.

the reason why ppl get on at 169th is cause they are coming off the(F) so they will adjust and stay on till 179th instead of getting off early.

Yes, I am very aware of rider patterns on the N6. It's not just because they're coming from the (F), it's because they want to make sure they can actually get on the bus and not get flagged at 179th street, and if they are able to get on the bus at 169th street their chances for a seat improves significantly. I've seen people flagged at 179th street, It's virtually the 3rd pick-up stop (If you count the terminal)!

As for them adjusting and staying on until 179th street, perhaps. When LIB replaced the evening LImited with Locals that began at 179th street, you could easily tell which bus originated where. The buses that originated at the bus terminal were packed, and the buses that originated at 179th street were light.

Bus Service To Mercy Medical Center Restored

Nassau Inter-County Express, or NICE, Restores n17 Route

    pr20120409BusService.jpg

(April 9, 2012 - RockvilleCentre, NY) - For the first time in more than 18 months, Mercy Medical Center patients, visitors, staff and volunteers who depend on public transportation once again have direct access to the hospital by bus.

Service on the n17 line, connecting the Hempstead Transit Center and the Rockville Centre Long Island Railroad station, with a stop at Mercy on North Village Avenue, was resumed by the Nassau Inter-County Express, or NICE, on April 9th.

It had been suspended as part of a series of cut-backs in 2010 by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operated Nassau County's bus system at the time.

Led by Sister Mary Alice Aschenbach, Vice President of Pastoral Care, the hospital's administration had joined in extensive community efforts to maintain the service.

They found support for restoring the route from Veolia Transportation which on January 1, under contract with Nassau County, assumed day-to-day operations of the newly established NICE system.

"Those most affected by the loss of bus service to Mercy were pregnant women and their children who utilize the hospital's Women and Children's Outpatient Center," Sister Mary Alice explained. "It has been a significant hardship for them to be without the bus, and both they and the hospital are most grateful to Veolia Transportation for restoring the service."

"Mike Setzer, NICE's CEO, Rahul Kumar, vice president of business development, and others from the company, took the time to meet with us to hear our concerns," she went on. "They were instrumental in having this vital service restored, and we commend them for their responsiveness to our needs."

Bus route-maps and schedules are available on line on the Nassau Inter-County Express web site:

    www.nicebus.com

Wow this site keeps all formatting lol

  11. That, and she should've been aware that there were changes taking place, and the N48 schedule could've been adjusted.

In any case, it is plausable that she could be late for work after missing the bus. According to Google Transit, it takes about 40-45 minutes to get from the Hempstead Transit Center to the Century 21 in Westbury by taking the N35 to the N24, but it only takes 27 minutes if she takes the N48. (The extra time is basically due to the time waiting for the transfer). But in any case, between the extra time waiting for the next bus to the RFM and the extra time spent traveling, it is possible that she could be late for work.

I mean, if the N48 normally gets her to work 15 minutes early, the only way she'd be able to make it on time is if everything managed to connect perfectly (which it likely wouldn't), and even then it would be by the skin of her teeth.

I know that it was plausible for her to be late, but not 2 hours late, there were other buses she could have taken. But, good thing for her there are cabs close to the bus terminal
