  1. How would you suppose a QB FastTrack between Roosevelt Ave and Jamaica would be handled?

    Perhaps:

    • Local shuttle buses between Roosevelt Ave and Union Turnpike

    And

    • Express Shuttle buses between Willets Point or Main street and Jamaica, They will use the Van Wyck Expressway between Northern Blvd and Union Turnpike, and make local stops between Union Turnpike and 179th or Jamaica Center.

    What do you all think?

  2. Are all (7)'s running the whole route those evenings?

There IS a 2nd bus running between 21/QB and Queensboro Plaza. It would make more sense to me to run it from 21/QB straight to Roosevelt Ave in order to match the (F) service....

I think they want as many people to use the (7) as there will be better capacity than running shuttle buses between Roosevelt and 21st st

  3. The nightmare of the century begins on March 18th 2013. Get ready for utter chaos. Even as it is late night the Queens Bound trains can get pretty crowded even at late night in my recent travels on  the QBL.  Right after a (7)  weekend GO to boot. Ouch!

I've taken many late night (E) and (F) trains on QB, many people use the (F) express to transfer to the (7) @ Roosevelt, so those people will just get on the (7) in Manhattan. Those headed to the QB stops "north" of Roosevelt will just use the (7) to Roosevelt Ave. It really shouldn't be that bad, though Roosevelt Av will be a madhouse for a couple of hours.

  4. Every other N24 I saw had either a seated load or was SRO. Coming out of the city was a seated load, but lightened up quickly by New Hyde Park. I'd say around 10-12 on the bus from there to RFM, then down to 3-4 (not counting myself) eastward. Getting off at Hicksville was me and only one other passenger.

    Perhaps because it was Friday?

Having now ridden all 3 Hicksville-subway routes, all in the eastbound direction, I'd have to say the N24 feels the slowest of them all.

By the way, there was a supervisor at New Hyde Park Rd who made note of the fact that the Clever Devices didn't work. He spoke with the driver in a really heavy accent so I didn't understand most of what he said.

Yea, the N24 sucks, that's why most riders going between the Mall and Queens opt for the N22

  5. Being that the 2A goes to the Deer Park Tanger Outlet, I think the 2A's western terminal should be Suny Farmingdale or Conklin Street and RT110 to connect with the N70 & 72.

The S33 connects with the N72 but the times are not synched, and it would be better to wait on RT110 where there are places to go as opposed to Straight Path.

  6. At some point, I need to explore the NICE system since I haven't been on any routes. Wouldn't be so bad to see what it's like. I want to see what the hell is going on and I want to plan a trip to Roosevelt Fields. Any recommendations from the Nassau residences?

Well, you're right to wanna go to Roosevelt Field. You'll get a lot of NICE there. If you're really feeling adventurous, you can take a quick 10 minute ride (you have many ways to make the connection) to Hempstead Transit Center and see even more!

I'll add that he may want to take the N6x to Hempstead, See all of the routes, then you can take numerous routes to Roosevelt Field.

  7. Quoting is still funky I see.

Ohh well if you don't use your bus you lose your bus plain and simple.

Preaching to the choir much. I had to run across hempstead tpk I meant deathtrap to catch a bus that traffic is well it makes queens blvd look safe!!! when I had to take N70/72/71

You do realize N27's weekday service to roosevelt field has been restored full-time right? It's on weekends that it is still well useless.

I think they need to either make N1 go to jamacia full-time or at least into queens Or bring back the LTD. If people wanted faster service to hempstead they would use the LIRR anyway. N6 has a completely different purpose. So what did you think about trailways getting you to WP directly from SE queens? On a side note.

The N1 doesn't need to go to Jamaica full-time, however they did expand the N1 to Jamaica service time frame.

Err Isn't N35 ridership in westbury higher than it's baldwin segment? If N35 was extended to jericho quad I am very sure ridership would increase. I guess Glen cove riders gave up and switched to the infrequent but useful LIRR more useful than weekend N27 that is.

Kay Imma stop joking I wouldn't try to eliminate those routes outright I'd look for restructuring methods to make them more useful.

To be honest those routes need to either be restructured or Merged with other lines. Like N62 is can merge with the N40 easily. N14 Not sure if being a feeder is enough to make it work maybe extend then serve centennial ave to link with several other NICE lines like N35,N40/41/43/45 and it can merge with N50 and make itself useful. N50 is not used in bellmore anyway 1 person mostly nobody.

No, I believe N35 Ridership is highest between Hempstead and Roosevelt Field/NCC . Its Westbury segment is pretty light.

  8. I still remain completely neutral. I'm tired of all these arrogant Europeans and the hipsters claiming we should all be taking mass transit. They can blow it all out of their ass because it's just not worth it. I can tell that once upon a time the county had a decent system but as suburbanization and rapid development just kept making everything more car-friendly it all came apart. I can't believe how bad it is for people out here. I can't stand "it's so easy to get a license" and I hate the looks I get when I say that I can't drive. But I'd do anything to be sitting in the driver's seat of my own car, with my music playing and the heat on in bumper-to-bumper traffic as opposed to sitting on a crowded bus with 20-30 people crammed into an aisle only a foot and a half wide.

That's one of the reasons I broke down and got a car, I just got tired of LIB and Mass Transit. Got tired of getting flagged, of late buses, crowding with people not moving to the back, etc with LIB, got tired of long travel times to Brooklyn and late night slow runs on Queens Blvd, trains getting held, making me miss my bus, that was before the N6 was on 30 min headways overnight. Although, I still use transit from time to time to time, I don't have to rely on it. I'm frugal and was trying my best to maximize my unlimited metrocard, but I was like, "it's time to get a car."

The result of someone who has been failed by their transit system way to many times.

I can't say I blame you as on occasion my area transit system annoys the hell out of me. Is it as bad as NICE, likely not but I do understand your frustration to an extent.

LIB sucked also, but NICE i've heard has more reliability issues.

Yesterday, 12:15 n8 Green Acres Loop left 15 minutes early when I was waiting for it and I try to catch up with it arriving n6, did not made it b/c that driver left way EARLY.

Next, I waited for 13:15 n2 Green Acres and waiting in cold (no globe or scarf over on hour and when I was on 14:15 n8 Green Acres bus and when he came to Wheeler Av, guess what show up? New male driver on 13:15 n2 show up around Wheeler Av at 15:00!! WAY OFF SCHEDULE.

    Ridiculous. Complain to NICE
  9. I don't like use bad language but today's view.

Today, I took 15:57 n22x Jamaica on #1850 and n22x who had non-stop from RFM were pissed when male B/O made announcement "Mineola Station next".

They even said it doesn't make any sense n22x stopping at Mineola and New Hyde Park Rd, while n22l skipping RFM and Mineola.

How was the ride to Jamaica otherwise? Didn't the N22x lose time at the left turn light from Glen Cove Road to Jericho Turnpike anyway?

Old Country Road usually moves well west of the Glen Cove Road, and it's the way it's routed to Marcus Ave prevents multiple unnecessary left turns that usually bogs the route down.

Simple, make the 22L stop at Mineola and Make it stop at RF. The 22X can run its Pre December 2012 routing. The thing is though that 22L service to Jamaica has been discontinued, while everything else remains, which is retarded.

Having the N22L stop at Mineola defeats the original purpose, which was to bypass Mineola and the Mall to provide quicker trips (and squeeze in extra trips with less buses)
  10. Which doesn't help if you're going to Flushing. Even if you want to ignore the fact that it's an extra fare, the OB Branch doesn't directly connect to the N20, and aside from that, it has crap frequencies.

I mean, with the N27, it could theoretically be cheaper for them to work out a deal with the MTA to offer free transfers to the LIRR OB Branch (so they could take the N22/24 to the RFM, or the N40/41 to Hempstead), but again, the problem is the crappy frequencies.

But as a few people (including myself) have mentioned, it's stupid that they could've taken the opportunity to make the N27 less duplicative of the LIRR and they chose not to do it. That park on the waterfront is in a relatively dense area 2 miles from the LIRR. It would make a perfect terminal for the N27, and yet they still keep it terminating where it does. The N21 like I said doesn't even really duplicate the LIRR, but they could've extended it to Locust Valley and had it provide direct service to the hospital.

Most people using the N27 are using it because it's more affordable, they have an unlimited card, and/or they are transferring to/from other bus routes, the LIRR isn't going to do anything but make it less convenient and more expensive. Just because two different forms of transit parallel each other doesn't mean they're fighting over the same riders. Also the LIRR stations are somewhat far apart compared to bus stops and buses run more frequently.

actually it's very easy just zoom in. and you can see even more detail. Most people use smartphones in 10 years you will not have a choice. I got rid of most of my paper schedules when I got my first smartphone. Only keeping a few just in case.

I like to carry a bus schedule also , what if your phone dies?

Yea, but how many of each schedule did you take? Not like piles I hope, because thats a waste kinda.

Yea, but QJ is right, although NICE has to release smartphone apps first before they can justify not printing schedules anymore. The (MTA) , having an open smartphone API and many smartphone apps currently on the app stores, has already started slowing down with printing schedules. NICE will eventually do the same thing.

It sucked finding MTA bus schedules.
  11. Took #1604 on the N22 to Roosevelt Field today. It hauled ass from 165th Street Terminal to the mall. #1604 is also the first LI Orion V CNG I took. #1779 also went very fast on the way back, about one hour from the mall to 179th Street.

    Did you try the Express?

It's too bad that speed can't make up for the bus having to wait a minute just to merge back into traffic and traffic lights timed by idiots.

I think the N24 has it the worst

The light syncing in the county really is terrible. Thats the reason so many buses are late and run off schedule so often!

The sad thing is that it may be intentional. Many jurisdictions call it "traffic calming'
