  1. The only thing I don't agree with is the N6x... they're still barely used compared to the locals and simply adding and removing random stops won't fix anything.  They need to bring back the old Limited.

Isn't the N6x basically the N6L without the Hilliside & Francis Lewis, Springfield Blvd and Locustwood Blvd Stops.

With the change it will only be missing Hillside & Francis Lewis, Locustwood Blvd, and  Westminster, which isn't as important because the next stop transfers with the same buses.

  2. Ok why are we talking about health now

Joel brought it up about waiting for the N25

And after four years of this crap, the only thing I can claim it's done is improve how far I can walk without getting tired.  Why are you even posting about buses and what people do at the stops when you drive?

    *expects negative rep*

See look you can walk farther without getting tired, that's good.

As for me posting, I drive and use public transportation, surprise!

  3. No I contacted NICE and they said that the n71 short turns currently ending at stewart av will be extended to 110

    Ohh ok, Makes sense.

Because standing for over 15 minutes is fun and conducive to one's health.

Actually standing IS conducive to one's health. There are numerous studys that shows that sitting for prolonged periods of time is bad for one's health.

  4. My take on the proposals and comments I've read:

n4/n4x - Lets understand that NICE is going to use the term Express over Limited for the one obvious reason, NICE=Nassau Inter-County EXPRESS.

The x route has stops at the major stops with transfers to North/South Routes except for the n1 for some reason. The question is, will it be bi-directional? or like the n22 Express which is one way during the morning rush and one way during the evening rush? Also, Merrick Blvd Sucks, it's definitely going to speed up trips not getting bogged down by stopping for passenger exchange and dealing with those traffic signals.

n6/n6x - Interesting, many people are going to NCC anyway, but the n6 is already somewhat unreliable, We'll see. They should have never removed the Springfield Blvd stop in the first place. They can remove Westminster Road however, If someone wants to transfer to the n15/n31/n32 they can get off at Hilton Ave and cross the Street.

N21- It's probably to avoid the N20/N27 transfer nightmare.

N43 - This is an interesting route, before its introduction Uniondale Ave had crap N45 bus service, now they have the N43 which went to more (useful) locations ,now it goes to Hempstead during non summer months and look how the ridership has grown. Routing is important. Just because a route along a corridor doesn't get patronized doesn't mean there is no demand for service it could just be that the routes that serve the corridor are useless.

N45/51 - Like someone mentioned above, the more stops the merrier.

N71 - How will this route go to Farmingdale? Will it go to 110 then down to Sunrise Mall? Or will it go to Sunrise Mall along its normal route, then run up Route 110 to Conklin St? Will SCT have an issue with this?

Yuki are you going? Who's recording these meetings?

  5. Yep. Just add back a city line stop (225 St?) ...I don't think the bus should be making local stops in Queens. Its an express bus meant to get people from the subway to Nassau faster during rush hour, the local is always there.

The defunct limited stop was Locustwood Blvd which was useful for western Elmont Resident to get to the Subway Quicker as well as to other transfer points and Hempstead.

As for Queens, many people use the Springfield Blvd stop and Francis Lewis & Hillside Stop. There are times where Springfield Blvd becomes flag central as you have 10 people or so waiting for the N6 and they're too packed to let anyone else on.

Even though a lot of riders are going to/from the Subway, there are a lot of riders and reverse commuters going between eastern Queens, points along the N6, and Hempstead. The N6 has a lot of overlapping trips which it seems NICE didn't notice.

  6. The Clever Device works by satellite. Not by wheel rotation or any of the other assumptions that have been posted. The buses are currently being dry-run on all the routes for the new system that's being installed.

I KNEW IT! By the way, that's coming from a driver right there!

Lets be clear, according to the post we can assume that the NEW system  is running by GPS. The OLD system was definitely not GPS or it wouldn't have been wrong so frequently.

  7. What is your basis for saying the announcements worked off the wheel rotations? How do you know they weren't powered by the GPS system on board the buses? That has been the subject of controversy for some time now. And whatever system was in place in Long Island Bus, NICE hasn't changed it?

Well, for one, sometimes the announcements are clearly wrong . If the announcements for example are one stop off, it would remain that way unless the driver pulled up to a stop, changed the stop name manually, then open and closed the doors.

I'm fairly certain that the announcements are wheel rotation based.
