  1. Service Change

    Posted: 03/20/2014 6:24PM

Due to train with mechanical problems at Lexington Av-53 St:

Jamaica-bound (E) trains are running on the (F) line from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av.

71 Av-bound (M) trains are running on the (F) line from 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr to 36 St (Queens).

    Allow additional travel time.

And it's in the middle of the rush hour.

    In addition to this:

    Delays  Posted: 03/20/2014  6:01PM

Due to ongoing signal problems at Forest Hills-71 Av, northbound e.png and f.png trains are running with delays.

    Allow additional travel time.

The Northbound 6th Ave Local and QBL are  (F) ' (E)(D)
  2. Well my usual N6X has been less crowded lately... (I actually get a seat at Terrace since my 15 doesn't connect with it time-wise at HTC anymore....) Pretty much every NICE route I've seen has been WAY less crowded lately (Ridership being lost is no exaggeration to me....)

On the N6 going home yesterday, near Franklin Ave (HTC-bound), a guy got on the bus, didn't pay his fare and told the driver to take off. Everyone has been taking their frustrations on the operators. No one is as friendly with them as they used to be. Says a lot about the satisfaction.

I have no complaints about the 6/15/31/32 for the most part, but my god that N4 always comes to Jamaica 6-10 minutes late (which is why I NEVER take it anymore)

People want to be able to board buses and not get passed, they want buses to be on time or minimally late so they can plan their trips accordingly, and they want to be able to make their connections.

These requirements for satisfaction also come into play with 3 legged transfers. If I need to take 3 buses to get somewhere, then I shouldn't have to pad my trip by a couple buses each line to make sure I don't get screwed. One missing trip, extremely late bus, or being flagged by a bus can cause a cascading effect that can make a trip an hour longer or more.

When drivers be like "oh my bus is "full" they can take the next one" they should think about that, especially on routes with less frequent headway.

As they already know, a lot of passengers use the system to get to work, lets stop screwing with passenger's income, especially since you need all the fare revenue you can get.  If they have to be concerned with getting to work on time every day because of the bus, then they're going to start getting rides from friends/family/colleagues, buy a car, and/or get a job out of the NICE service area.

I actually got a car because I was going to work and school and got tired of the bus (back when it was LIB), and it was much quicker to get between work and school by car so I was able to take earlier evening classes or get to work earlier after morning classes, depending on the semester. (20-30 mins by car, 1hr+ by bus)

  3. Something about no (A) and (C) trains b/w Jay Street and Broadway Junction this morning?

Also saw an uptown (A) local again, packed. Maybe sent local because of lack of trains?

Yes. Hell, I was waiting at Utica to get to school after getting off the B46 bus. The Far Rockaway-bound (A) local came in, almost packed. Damn. The train finally became less crowded when I got off at Euclid to get to school.

Yeah, the put-ins out of Pitkin this morning weren't getting to Manhattan for some reason, so the (A) 's on the Manhattan side were going local back uptown until those first S/B (C) 's could get to Jay and back. I swear, some customers act like riding their express train for local stops is the end of the world for them.

Did the track work run late?

  4. Broad St is considered railroad north, Jamaica Center is south. It got flipped when the (M) started running from Continental (north) to Metropolitan (south) and the Broad to Court connection stopped being used for revenue service.

Go read the random thoughts thread and you'll see that (A)(C)(E) trains ended up in the least likely of places today!

In that case they should say "Manhattan bound (J) " trains.

  5. Yesterday afternoon due to the Queens Blvd trackwork, many R trains turned at 57/7th (to go back to Brooklyn).

This afternoon due to Queens Blvd trackwork and 71st Ave signal problems, the E & F were briefly suspended between 71 Av and Jamaica.  And there were severe delays (that cascaded into the other boroughs) on the E, F and R lines.

That's why I've been avoiding the (E) and (F) on weekends and late evenings. I go right to the (J) train. Above ground, can use my phone, get to Jamaica without delays and catch my bus just fine.

Last week was the last straw. I took the (F) during fastrack to Jamaica. First I had just missed the (F) and it took forever for the next one to come, we started crawling around 42nd street, delays through Queens Plaza, then local to Roosevelt Ave, switched to the express tracks, still delays all the way to 169th Street. Missed my bus by 2 minutes!!! That's omitting the fact I should have been able to catch the previous bus 30 mins prior. If i took the (J) I would have been home 90 mins earlier!

QB CBTC work is going to be a nightmare.

  6. It's either one B/O chose to take that trip off and went about his business with the bus (happens a lot in Brooklyn. Not as much now since BusTime is here) and/or one bus was running late (because of driving slow at first, then getting slammed with people and traffic etc), and because of this new "rule" the bus after that one I mentioned caught up to the packed bus...had to stay behind that packed bus, causing that big gap.

Why is "leapfrogging" not allowed anymore?

  7. Earlier I was on a N6 racing the Q2 via bustime. Both left the bus terminal at the same time.

    Post "race" notes:

-Desktop Bustime works sufficiently on smartphones (Android at least).

-Q2 turned off Hillside as N6 passed 187th pl.

-N6 turned onto Francis Lewis Blvd while Q2 was @ Jamaica Ave (or waiting at 99th Ave signal, I didn't zoom in)

-N6 turned onto Hempstead Ave before Q2 reached Francis Lewis Blvd.

-N6 entered Nassau County before Q2 reached Springfield Blvd.

Yes, its true, there were loads of breakdowns, until MTA took over management of LI Bus. Once they took over, the breakdowns were more of a rare occurence. As far as them not passing inspection, I think once Mangano came up with his plan, the MTA stopped giving a damn about maintanance, and were forced in the very end to use the loaner buses from MTAB because so many failed. MTAB really started cleaning up things and getting us on par with the city, I remember some of the drivers felt like they finally weren't below the city. Of course now that's all over & the breakdowns are back, and this time it's the newer buses breaking down, because as Brett said, the MTA had to put new parts in the V's prior to the changeover.

Considering how much the state pours into Nassau, they should be concerned about the lack of maintanance of the buses. But like I said, Cuomo is a tool & is buddy buddy with Mangano.

Considering how much the state takes from Nassau.. lol

  8. I'm on the N6 racing the Q2 via bustime, lol. Left the bus terminal at the same time.

  9. Not as long as the county refuses to fund it's bus system. The (MTA) wouldn't send buses out without proper maintanance, but Veolia will, thats WHY Veolia is cheaper than the (MTA). Its stuff like this which is causing ridership to decline. And wait, it's not even summer yet! A friend of mine just said he saw 1764 broke down in Great Neck tonight too. It's a miracle they pass inspection. I'm sure riders are getting fed up with the n20/21, and are discovering the LIRR goes to Great Neck. I think NICE's crappy service has contributed in part to almost record ridership gains on the LIRR!

Revisionist history. The LIB had a lot of OrionV breakdowns. I'd see them on the side of the road or getting towed (Especially in the Summer). I've been on several buses that stalled while in service, most times the B/O was able to get it running again. One time I was on a Jamaica bound N6 that broke down Francis Lewis Blvd, and a virtually empty Q77 picked us up and took us the rest of the way full.

Not to mention that most of the buses that were being inspected for transfer to NICE were failing inspection. Who knows what really happens since the MTA does their own inspections, (or at least they're supposed to).

  10. Happens all the time, apparently the riders like stifling air...

Me too, that's all I'm asking for, restore the 9 Mil and see what NICE can do...

Makes no sense.. It was a low floor bus and someone was in the way so I couldn't do it myself so I asked if someone could open the vent and people just looked. Then this guy who was hot got up and pushed the vent up. SMH. If I was able to get to a window I would have opened that as well.

As for the 9 mill it would be interesting what they would do.

  11. Well, for example, if you've got a bus every 60 minutes on the Q43 and a bus every hour on the N22, the penny-pinching MTA might, in the event of a combination, decide that one bus running every 60 minutes would be better than keeping two buses. He was talking about combining routes.

Actually, after looking at the NICE bus schedules, I'm not sure what runs there would be to combine; the N22 doesn't run at all between 1 and 4.

That's exactly the point of the suggestion....

Ok, there is a lot of unnecessary confusion. This is not hard to follow.

The 24/7 NICE routes are the N6 and the N4, those would be combined with the Q5 and Q2 overnight hawks. The rest do not run through the night, but can have the last few trips after 11PM  or whatever combined.  <_<

The routes would not be longer as they would be no longer than the existing NICE Route. They would just have additional stops in Queens, but over/late night that's not going to matter...

Yes, they would probably cut runs, instead of having Q2's and N6's run all night. (Q2 hourly, and N6 half hourly). They can have the N6 continue to run half hourly, and just cover the Q2's route. Providing more service to Hollis Ave for less money. etc.

  12. Why would you combine Nassau Routes with Queens Routes... If those buses were to drop off in Queens

can you imagine how long that run would be... Imagine a N22 making ALL stops to Hicksville or an N6 making ALL

stops to Hempstead lol smh it's just not feasible to do such a thing

The way it's currently set up is perfectly fine... NO drop off in Queens Eastbound

No pick ups in Queens Westbound...

Just remember the suggestion was for the over night hawks and/or the last couple of runs for the non-24 hr routes.

  13. Yeah, they'll come in on tracks 1-4 at Stillwell and continue to Brighton Beach, where they'll be a crew change to continue to Manhattan. They'll use whichever line has the capacity at the time - yesterday they were using both the Sea Beach and West End.

Cool, did they run express or did they make normal stops?

  14. Yes, when that train was BIE at Dekalb, all trains behind it had to go through the bypass, which puts you on the 4th Ave express at Pacific. And then when it got moving, the (B) and (Q) 's could again go down the Brighton line, but once it BIEed for the third time, they started rerouting for a second time as they had trains backed all the way up Dekalb again. I can confirm that the two (B) 's behind that problem train did get sent down 4th Ave, as well as multiple (Q) 's.

When the trains get sent down 4th Ave, did/do they loop up the Brighton Line via Stillwell? Would they use the Seabeach or West End Express to speed up the trip and get back to the Brighton Line?
