  1. The crosstown would be very useful if it stopped at all the major lines (D)(N)(R)(F)(Q)(2)(5) and bus routes

    After Nostrand:

    Utica-Kings Highway - B46, B7

    Remsen Ave - B17

    New Lots (L) and/or Junis-Lavonia (L)(3)

    Atlantic Ave (L) LIRR

    Broadway Junction (A)(C)(J)(Z)(L)

Myrtle Ave - B55, B13 etc, you get the point.

    Metropolitan Ave -

    Elliot Ave Q38

    Grand Ave Q58/59

Roosevelt Ave with link to 74th St (7)(E)(F)(M)(R)

    Northern Blvd Q66

and either Ditmars Ave (N) or Laguardia Airport.

If not the High Gate with a crosstown 125th Street Line.

    :P

  2. Signal problems near 59 St forced damn near everything into Queens Blvd

Was this during rush hour? QB must have been crazy.

Well, from news articles from the time, the original plans were for either Rogers or Nostrand with Nostrand being chosen.

Interesting, Thanks, maybe Rogers was too close to the Brighton line.

  3. Weekends of May 2 and 9: Franklin Av Junction outages: (2) busing Flatbush-Franklin, (3) line suspended with buses south of Franklin and to 148.

The SBS bus lanes should help this shuttle out. I saw tweets about the Astoria line shuttle being horrible. Why doesn't the MTA suggest nearby bus routes as an alternative? Instead of everyone cramming on the shuttle bus they can take nearby, parallel bus routes, or routes that take users to other subway lines which would even out passengers and increase utility of existing service.

For example with this (2) shuttle, riders can use the B44, B43, B41, B103, etc.

  4. I had one of those farebox issues yesterday,I should have noted the bus number. I got on the n6 and the farebox said my metrocard was invalid. . It's an unlimited card. Worked fine today.

BTW NICE will not see any additional funding besides the one proposed in the Governor's budget. So now the ball is in Nassau's court, otherwise there will be more service cuts this summer.

Hey...looking at the NICE schedule page...looks like they got rid of the n81!

    http://nicebus.com/Maps-Schedules/Bus-Maps-and-Schedules.aspx

LOL they slipped that in, but since no one uses it no one noticed. :P

But seriously, the PDF still has the N81 on it: http://www.nicebus.com/NiceBus/media/NiceBus-Schedules/NiceBus-SchedulesApp/NICE-n80_MapSchedule.pdf however, all other references on the site to the N81's existence is gone, except for the PDF of the interlines/blocks. So maybe they'll leave it off the site, so that ridership drops to negative numbers, then they'll eliminate it in the summer and no one would notice.  :P

  5. yup, rush hours for the most part you are probably better off sticking with the local. I always took the local as i'd eventually get a seat and wont have to be squished by the doors and standing the whole way if riding the express. The qb and lexington av express runs may save you some time, but with how slow the trains crawl, you may as well take the local and take on less stress on your way to point b.

It's pretty irritating when the express is crawling or stopped between stations while a local or two zips by.

  6. I was able to take the (J) full Broadway Express.yesterday:

Canal St to Broadway Junction took 20 mins

Canal Street to Jamaica Center 45 Mins.

Well, in another thread it was explained that express service isn't actually meant to save time.

It was always meant to simply alleviate crowding without having to run more local service.

I think the original intention of express service/tracks was for "rapid transit" as it was the IRT that started it all.

  7. Do you realize how you sound sometimes? You come off pretty closeminded and prejudiced. If only "poor people" ride NICE, then why do you ride NICE? I'm not poor, but I ride NICE because LIRR gives me shitty service and a car isn't feasible, especially going to college in Manhattan as of August.

I'm glad someone else notices it, he does it all the time and it's annoying. The reason why they should provide more bus service to an area is because demand is increasing, or there is overcrowding and pass-ups, not because "there are a lot of poor people without cars". He has an articulation problem.

Even when he goes to meetings, instead of voicing the issues with bus service, or why service needs to be improved in a civilized manner, he yells "you treat us like second class citizens, you don't care about us lowly bus riders, there are a lot of super duper poor people that need the bus, they can't afford cars and they need the bus to get to social services, and there are tons of illegals that need to get to their job for the day, who else is going to cut your lawns in the summer? and the rest are super ghetto gang members that tag the buses and low life clientele that beat up on bus drivers and don't call the police if they're not the perp".  Great way to paint an image and make them want to improve funding and service  .

  8. No. It's mainly interlocking work at Roosevelt Av, 71 Av and Kew Gardens. There are some signal upgrades being done as well, but they have nothing to do with CBTC.

Oh ok thanks. It seems to be near Queens Plaza also. It looks like they've installed new track an ties outside Queens Plaza

  9. Still missing a direct connection to the (4), (5), (6), (N), (Q), and (R). An (M) to Chambers Street rather than just Essex Street is 4 times better in terms of reach.

Yep, and get ready for the weekend  (F) to get hit even harder. Many Myrtle Ave riders who would normally just take the  (L) into Manhattan (to avoid a 3 or 4 seat ride) are gonna do the  (M) to the  (F) so Delancey-Essex lower level is gonna be CRAAAAAAZY.

What happens when the uptown (F) runs on the (A)(C) line?

  10. Service Change  Posted: 03/24/2014  8:07AM

Due to FDNY activity at Canal St, northbound q.png trains are running local from Canal St to 34 St-Herald Sq.

    Allow additional travel time.

does anyone understand this? Shouldn't it say prince street?

It doesn't make sense unless the activity cause the switch to lock in place and make all northbound trains go local from the Bridge.

    Delays  Posted: 03/24/2014  3:40PM

Following an earlier incident at W 4 St-Washington Squarec.png and e.png train service has resumed with residual delays.

There was a rail condition that had (C) and (E) trains running express.

  11. Yup upgraded service levels on that segment. Thank you NICE.

I have to stop using headway speak. They reduced the frequency of buses but extended the N31. The service was lopsided under LIB because it had more N32 service as it served more businesses on Central Ave, but NICE said "most riders are riding through to/from Far Rockaway" anyway so they just extended the N31 and reduced the frequency of the whole route to make up the difference.

  12. You said that queens blvd was delayed yesterday so I was saying that running everything local from Roosevelt to Continental can be a big problem since 2 trains terminate there also

Oh, The (E) , (F) and (M) were running Local on 6th Ave, but their normal routes in Queens.  But because of switch problems further down the line, the (E) and (F) had even more delays.

  13. Oh, I just received word that those new rules are to be put into effect on NICE at or around the final rollout of 'the new system' (by which they mean the first day of Clever, which was Q4 IIRC?). Well, better late than never, I'd say, although for image sake they should've put the new rules into effect by March 30th IMHO.

It will be easier to implement when every bus could be tracked by GPS. now, they would have to have dispatchers all around at timepoints.
