  1. I saw a R32 on the (A) yesterday.

Interesting observation today. I was on a Manhattan bound (F) which arrived at Union Turnpike with an (E) train, I took note of a car number on the (E) and stayed on the (F), of course it went ahead of us and we were held at 75th Ave briefly. We get to Manhattan and a (B) train catches up to us at 34th st. I transfer to the (B) and take it to West 4th st. I go up stairs and a few seconds later, the next train to pull in is the (E) that went ahead of my (F) at Union Turnpike.

Usually I stay on the (F) because I figure there are more options, the possibility to take the (B) or (D) Express on 6th Ave to get "ahead" and use (A)(C) or (E) at W4th, whichever comes first go continue downtown. So from this one trail where I actually took note of the car number, only if the (E) is in the station at the same time will I transfer, because otherwise the (F) gets to 71st Ave first.

  2. Eeesh. Assuming you xfered at Lynbrook. You're lucky they moved stop on the same corner of the Bank or America.

They did? that's interesting. Making connections there sucked.

If it was up to you would you have the MTA retake over NICE?

No, there's this revisionist history where people feel like MTA was super great running LIB. But I remember late buses, broke down buses, packed buses, etc, and this was before NICE was even thought of. NICE may have modified routes, but was the MTA really "better" at running LIB? Not necessarily.

There is room for improvement however, if they're going to schedule buses a certain way , especially to make connections, then the buses SHOULD BE ON TIME! And/or the B/O's of the connecting buses need to be able to communicate with each other.

Another thing is the N6 Evening service, 20 headway after 9PM from Jamaica means full buses and flagging.

No reverse peak runs on the N1 means you need the N6 in the mornings to get to Elmont Rd, but of course you can't catch the bus that should connect within a few mins, because it will most likely be late and make you miss the N1.

That's another thing that B/o's in general don't take into account when passing people you may definitely need that bus as you need to make a connection. Sure you should allot time for stuff like that, but do you really need to double your commute time to make sure you're super early for all your connections (which may be late btw)?

You know how c/o's sometimes say "Use all available doors". B/O's should say "Use all available seats" it frees up more room for standees.

  3. I saw the strangest thing tonight on the QB line this past evening. I was on a Jamaica bound (F) , We left Roosevelt Ave along with a R160 (R) train and we're riding down the express tracks, we slow down at 67th Ave where there's a DEAD R46 train on Forest Hills Local track, Totally dark just sitting there with a (F) bullet in front and no visible passengers on the train or in the station on that side. But then right after we pulled up along a R46 (R) and crawled into Forest Hills together.

  4. I think they should add announcements for the (Q44) on the (2)(5)(6)(7)(E)(F)

(2)(5): "This is West Farms Sq, transfer is available to the Q44 bus to Queens" or "to Flushing and Jamaica Queens"

    Similar announcement for the (6)

    (7) This is Flushing Main Street "Transfer is available to the Q44 bus to Jamaica and the Bronx"

(E)(F): "This is Van Wyck Blvd (Or Sutphin) Transfer is Available to the Q44 bus to Flushing and the Bronx"

  5. This is a few weeks old now I don't remember when and what time never had an opportunity to post/ this but here we go. I saw an N24 pull into Jamaica terminal at 9:30, with a huge line of people standing everywhere and the supervisor came out of the bus. Next thing I know is a someone asked the n24 driver where the n22 is, they have been waiting an hour and no n22 or n24 bus has come. The driver said he is turning this bus into an N22 but it's hard because there was only 3 buses available for the 2 lines that day. The rest were broken. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No spares? This is where the GPS system will really come in handy.

  6. I just realized I posted in the wrong thread.(kinda)

There are a few schedule changes starting June 22:

    http://nicebus.com/P...ce-Change.aspx

The color is blue, and the PDF's are landscape.

The N87 & N88 are paired like the N78/N79 using combined headway, with the main section being between Freeport and Jones Beach. The headway is 30 mins, so each route runs hourly.

    Routes involved:

    n1 n70/71/72

n6 n87  Jones Beach Daily Schedule

    n40/41

  7. The Belmont Stakes did not destroy the n6. From what I know, there were road closures for cars, but buses were being allowed through, so even though the n6 sat in bumper to bumper traffic, they sure got their moneys worth for running the few buses they run anyway. I'm sure the "extra" service on the n6 they promised died out in the heat.

They sat in bumper to bumper traffic which screwed up the whole line.

So many breakdowns I tell ya! Generally everyday that I take NICE there is a problem. Either the alarm going off, no a/c, or no bus altogether. 1844 today felt like it was gonna stall out and the CNG leak alarm was going off. Nassau's buses have never looked this bad.

Thursday I got stuck in Glen Cove, no n27 at 5:30pm, just said screw it & took the train at 6:08pm. While I was waiting I saw no less than 3 OOS buses deadheading back to garage, not filling the missing run. On Friday I heard 3 buses call in over the radio with breakdowns while I was riding the n45 back from Bellmore. Today I heard 2 buses call in with malfunctioning w/c lifts. And the reason why the radios are open was there was a burst hot water pipe which destroyed the NICE command center at Mitchell Field. And both bus washes are broken! Just another example of how bad things are, one n45 bus broke down a couple of weeks ago, missed the 3:35pm from Bellmore, 4:35pm from RF, and 5:35pm from Bellmore. And yes that was the last bus, curtailed! I wonder just how much longer this operation can function...it really should be shut down, and the MTA needs to take control. The state should control the whole operation and send Mangano the bill.

There was a broken down N6 on 165th street last night and a LOONG line, someone said the previous bus was so full it didn't pick up at 168th street. I took the Q2 and called it a day.

  8. The Lexington Avenue Line is going to be a complete mess. The 53rd Street corridor is knocked out for the count unless the T/Ds figure out some sort of plan for split service, quickly. This curtailment in service will create a huge problem with the crowds of evening rush commuters trying to travel to Penn Station forcing them to get on the Lex and transfer at GC to get to the other side of Manhattan.

Not exactly, (E) trains are turning at Queens Plaza.

  9. I'm on the (J) now, toward Manhattan, it's not packed, but as pm rush begins it may get crazy. They have shuttles at 179th st going to the (J) via Q43, and one going to the (7) (not sure of the routing).

It would be nice if they told riders before they got off the bus that there is no train service.

  10. First, it was the (7) to New Jersey and now this. What's the big fascination with connecting NEW YORK trains to NEW JERSEY?

Since when was Staten Island part of New Jersey?

My mistake. You get my point, though.

This is the NYC metropolitan area, NJ should not be segregated just because it's a different state.
