  1.  I can't understand why a company that wants to stay in business is running empty N87 buses between Freeport and Hicksville, and empty N36 buses between Lynbrook and Freeport.  Yet they won't increase service substantially on their super-busy routes like the N4 (and end up leaving people behind, the bus is so crowded).  That N4 bus should be running every 10 minutes on Saturdays and every 15 on Sundays through 9pm.

This is why I get so irritated when the n6 is a giant clown car and people are still getting "passed-up". When/if they have the meeting about the GPS system and APC (Automatic Passenger Counting) system I want to go.

  2.

The ridership the n87/n88 gets from Freeport dismisses that theory...  Maybe if you compare the total number of people at any given beach to percent that arrived there by bus, you might have an argument.  But nobody is going to get people to use a bus instead of their car, people are taking the bus to the beach because they don't have a car, friend, or family member they can ride with.  Enough people use the bus to get to the beach to explain it's existence.  The question is just what is right way of sending the buses?  NICE should have survey takers getting peoples zip codes before the enter a beach bound bus,,,  There's a reason they ask you this at the sales counter, ;)

That may be a good idea. There is ridership at Freeport, but either they probably live close to Freeport,or they take bus/LIRR from Queens or something.

  3. Yesterday from Jones Beach, there was a large crowd on the N87 early evening.  Once we got to Freeport, every single person got off the bus.  The bus driver was then driving an EMPTY bus all the way from Freeport to Hicksville.  This is total insanity.  Meanwhile, many passengers got off and were waiting and waiting and waiting (up to 50 minutes) for an N4 to Jamaica.

Doesn't NICE get it - NOBODY WANTS TO GO TO HICKSVILLE FROM JONES BEACH!!!!!!  Does empty (N87) bus after empty bus after empty bus between Freeport and Hicksville make them understand?  If you made a bus from Jones Beach to Oyster Bay or Jones Beach to Farmingdale, nobody's going to ride that either.  People using mass transit are coming from Manhattan and Queens.  So they should send the N87 to Jamaica (via the N4 line to handle the severe overcrowding) instead of driving an empty bus to Hicksville.

This is why the N87 goes to Freeport instead of "bypassing" it. They can advertise both locations while mostly serving Freeport.

Sending em to jamaica is just as bad as reliability would tank how about NO. Reason why n87 fails is due to the fact most Suffolk county people are either going to the Hamptons or Robert Moses park. Or putting up with the meadowbrook that attitude is not helping increase ridership.to say all riders on NICE are from NYC and only cater to them is probably why buses are so hated in long island that and the attitudes people have ain't helping.

Suffolk County folks would probably use the Wantagh if they were going to Jones Beach.

The n87 "fails" because most people from Nassau or Suffolk that's going to the beach are going to take some type of vehicle, either their's, their friends, or a family members'. Lots of people going to Jones Beach may not actually live on Long Island (including Brooklyn and Queens) because on hot days like today you'll see that there is traffic in the morning coming from Westchester/Bronx, etc andin the Evening the westbound traffic is jammed, as well as the Northbound Meadowbrook Parkway. Google Maps makes this easy to monitor.

Also, NICE has made people loathe the bus service enough that they will only use the bus when absolutely necessary.

  4. This was a [insert string of expletives].

I was trying to get home from Brooklyn - R train was fine NB until just shy of queens plaza. It then took 35 minutes to get to 36 street at which point I said f-this I'll walk.

I was in the head car and walked to the front to see what was going on - I heard rail control get on the radio and tell c/R's to tell customers to call and complain - then the c/r came on and told us to call and complain - and gave the number.

I know maintenance has to be done but geez if it's going to get that bad just tell me to take the bus.

Exactly this is my point about customer service. "Allow additional travel time" doesn't begin to tell the real situation.

It's one thing when there is "train traffic" or "trains are running local" , it's another thing when there are EXTREME DELAYS and WORKERS ON THE TRACKS. One day it took 2 and a half hours (including the bus)to get home because of trackwork. If I took the (J) instead I would have gotten home probably an hour or more earlier including walking to the bus terminal from Jamaica Center and the bus ride.

Its nice that they want to keep service going but if you're going to get trapped for who knows how long , then just shut the line down and get the trackwork done.

  5. Naa that would be very confusing.its a good idea though

Well (E) and (F) would make all normal stops without being delayed. Tell riders to use the (E) and (F) which are going local because of signal delays and send the (M) and (R) express and tell them there are heavy delays on the express tracks.

You had express trains poking along Queens Blvd with a Local whizzing by every few mins, I think they can deal with a few confused riders than a bunch of people trapped between stations getting pissed especially when most have to get on a bus when they get to their stations.

  6. Delays  Posted: 07/31/2014 10:06PM

Due to signal problems at Forest Hills-71 Av, northbound e.png and f.png trains are running with delays.

    Allow additional travel time.

    ________________________________________________

This actually started closer to 7:45pm. The local trains were fine but the express was horrible. The conductor suggested taking a local at Roosevelt, and many did. We actually caught up to the (F) that was in front of the (E) I was on. So why don't they just send the (E) and (F) local and the (M) and (R) express since there are less trains and there would be less delays for those lines?

  7. Some interesting GO's for next month:

    (R) to 179 every weekend in August

Franklin (S) shut down for the first 2 weekends

The interesting thing about today is that the (R) is running on the (M) and (D) between Queens Plaza and Dekalb. So anyone that usually uses the (F) can use the (R) all the way to Broadway Lafayette since the (E) and (F) are going local anyway.

  8. Here are my Subway line headway and new route suggestions (which includes new tunnels being built):

    (F) service extension to LIJ/New Hyde Park. Runs Express to 179th Street/Jamaica. Headways at 6 minutes during Rush Hours and 10 minutes during Middays and Weekends. Peak Direction Express in Brooklyn along the Culver line during AM and PM Rush Hours.

If the (F) goes express to 179th then what covers the local stops between Forest Hills and 179th?
