  1. 4 things can explain this 1) they are probably reverse commuters 2) They are cheap and lazy or going to destinations in SE queens 3) there are cross walks at most if not all the sunrise hwy LIRR stations 4) I do admit pedestrian access should be improved that can be taken up with the MTA.

lol@cheap and lazy.  It's not so simple.

Traffic were along Northern Blvd in Queens-Great Neck, then along n27 route Roslyn Rd-Jericho Turnpike-Old Country Rd from Roslyn Station to RFM entrance.

    I don't understand a thing your saying.

As much as people rag on him, they have to keep in mind that English isn't his first language.

Right, If you're fluent in English you should be able to understand what FamousNYLover is saying.

"There was traffic along Northern Blvd from Queens to Great Neck as well as the N27 route between Roslyn Station and RFM.

  2. Mta LIB wasn't much better as long as there are stupidly long routes like N4&22 nothing will change. It's utterly unrealistic to take a bus from Freeport all the way to Jamaica and expect it to run on time. At least N43 doesn't do the 45 min headways anymore. Let's face it aside from the X & LTD variants some routes need to just need to be broken up.

Where do you suggest that they break up the N4?
  3. I really don't see people stop taking the bus to start driving, especially when the county is going really crazy with the red light cameras.

I've seen lots of buses with empty seats, now, it wasn't like that before, you can literally see that ridership dropped.  As for the red light cameras, all you have to do is watch when the light turns yellow and wait 3 seconds before making a right on red... or avoid those intersections if possible. People are learning, the county's revenue from the cameras is dropping. So now they're trying the speed cameras in school zones.

  4. The train was basically empty after 36 st, and almost completely empty after Steinway. Nobody really got on either, because nobody had any idea where the train would end up.

Honestly I don't know why they didn't just reprogram the FIND for the R line. (Though that would have not made for an exciting photo at all)

Its like when the F runs on the Fulton local some people don't want to get on, like they're going to wind up in some alternate universe.

  5. Whatever they did to fix the bumpiness (NOT the way the NGs take bumps, note that) on the NGs worked.  Maybe they actually put air in the tires?

Improved the suspension, they've been doing quite a bit of improvements to various buses.

Part of the problem is NYC's crappy streets. Nassau's streets are mostly smooth. NYC however....

NYCDOT and MTA/NICE/Beeline should work together to makes sure that roads with buses are maintained and not unnecessarily increasing maintenance costs. Right now Hillside Ave is horrible (and yes, they are doing pipe work, etc), hopefully they repave it with concrete and not asphalt so that it can last a long time under the weight of the buses. We've seen the difference between bus stops with the concrete base and ones without.

  6. I've had my theories about Orion's lately but no real time to research anything and make it anything but a theory.  If anyone has time I recommend they ride the s1 for comparison, I relied the s1 last year for an internship and the 2010 Orion VII NG's are already having problems (and not getting better according to people I know who still ride and drive the s1)..  I would pray for a Gillig even all they were older and usually shorter (less sets more crowded).  At one point during the Holiday's the operators didn't have enough buses to cover all of the runs bc of breakdowns and a majority of the breakdowns were the VII NG's.  I was on a bus that broke down and we literally had to wait for the next one bc the yard didn't have a spare...

This is a point I've bought up before. Everyone blames NICE for maintenance, but LIB had issues with these SAME buses, so either the issues started with LIB maintenance or Orion makes crap buses.

  7. It would be nice if they kept the schedules the standard orange color.

Yes the purple on the schedule kinda threw me off...  I assume they'll be changing colors with schedule changes to signify a change?

They change the color with every schedule change.

In order to read parts of the N6 & N20 online skeds, you have to stand on your head, because they're upside down.

Adobe reader has the ability to rotate pages.

  8. Something happened to me yesterday that forced me to come back (that and the suggestions of my friends). I guess others may know me better than I know myself.

So on the n35 from Baldwin Harbor, it was the 7:15pm trip, bus 1718. I'm waiting by the LIRR station & he comes at 7:13pm. The bus was very light the whole way up, and after HTC, I was the only one on the bus all the way to Westbury.

So we're on Stewart Ave and he never makes the left into Roosevelt Field. Just keeps going straight. Then when we get to Privado, he hits a curb, then decides to turn around in a parking lot behind one of the office buildings, I then approach him & ask him if he knows where he's going. He told me he never did the n35 before and wasn't shown the route beforehand, and that he left his schedule & map (paddle too?) back at the yard. I told him he missed Roosevelt Field, he confused Roosevelt Field for Nassau Community College and thought they skipped RF on the weekend! Anyway, I told him he was going the wrong way on Privado (he u-turned in one of the lots) and so he had to make another u-turn.

I had to show him the route the rest of the way to Westbury. When Veolia was confronted recently on Facebook about the dropping ridership, they blame the April 2012 service cuts and claim it's going up. They brag about how they are saving Nassau Taxpayers "$30 less than the MTA per service hour", but you can see where they are saving that $30, as their maintanance & driver/route training is of a much lower standard than MTA. Then I also chime in the same thread about all the breakdowns, they said this is why they "eagerly await the new buses". But I see the 3G's breaking down too! All the buses sound terrible, sure the V's get the brunt of it but even the 3G's are in bad shape. I really hope when their contract is up the MTA will come back. They are losing so many riders due to the poor service. I saw a V broke down yesterday on W.John St too.

And for a couple of weeks Miller Ave was closed between Lot 3 & the west side of NCC, many drivers skipped either Lot 3 or the west side, and some skipped both (on one n35, driver asked if I was going to NCC, I said no, he said good, and skipped all of NCC).

There was no notice on the NICE website & they never got back to me about a detour for NCC. You'll also notice a number of FB complaints about their new mobile ticketing app, apparently some people have lost tickets they already paid for!

These people don't have a clue on how to run a bus system. Their service changes dont make sense (just look at the n87) and they keep losing riders. Nassau County is getting what it paid for, which is very little. I hope Mangano is out in the next election and the bus system is restored to it's "former glory".

I could see a similar campaign for a restored (MTA) LI Bus as there was for the subways in the late 80s.

the GPS system should prevent things like that
